This book felt like a hug in written form. JayCee’s story of struggling with batting, despite being the best pitcher, reminded me so much of the way children often doubt themselves even when others can see their talent. The pacing was perfect building up JayCee’s insecurity, introducing the father’s “magic bat,” and then showing the transformation not just in JayCee but in the entire team. I especially loved how the confidence spread. That was such a subtle yet powerful message: when one person believes in themselves, it lifts everyone around them. Darwin Dallyn wrote this in a way that’s simple enough for kids to grasp but deep enough for adults to nod along knowingly. I can see this becoming a favorite bedtime story in many homes.
