Not, like, drives a fast car dangerous or alcoholic gambler like my dad dangerous.
He’s mafia dangerous. Russian bratva. Vory v zakone. He belongs to Nikolai Kalasnikov’s family, the most powerful mob syndicate in Houston.
Months ago, we shared a secret, thrilling kiss before Danny disappeared with only a brief goodbye, sent away by his boss to handle family business.
And then someone tried to kill me and my family.
Now, my dad is missing. My stepmom is in jail. My younger siblings are in foster care. Loan sharks and Triad gangsters are threatening me, and I’ve never needed Danny more.
But, when he finally comes back into town, he finds me half-naked and dancing on a stage for one his enemies.
Suddenly, that dark, dangerous glare is on me, and—it leaves me quaking, my entire body trembling with a desperate need to be claimed and possessed by him.
But Danny’s protection comes with a high price.
Because once you’re part of the underworld, there’s only one way out...
When I’m not chasing after my wild preschooler, I like to write super sexy romances and scorching hot erotica. I live in Texas with a husband who could easily snag a job as an extra on History Channel’s new Viking series, a sweet but rowdy three-year-old with Tetralogy of Fallot, and Bosley, our Great Dane with major mommy issues.
I also have another dirty-book writing alter ego, Lolita Lopez, who writes deliciously steamy tales for Ellora’s Cave, Forever Yours/Grand Central, Mischief/Harper Collins UK, Siren Publishing and Cleis Press.
Great read, a little bit shorter than previous books of this series. H was protective to h, although he failed to protect her once, he didn't make the mistake again. And h's relationship with her stepmother was touching.
Compared to the previous stories, H and h were younger, and that might be the reason although we got a happy ending but felt like there would be a 2nd book.
I was very happy to see Danila get his story but am now very conflicted.
Great characters, interesting storyline and old favorites appear to bring their story together. My conflict comes from this being a happy for now and not a HEA.
Wow...Macy's life really goes to shit fast in this one! She's doing the best she can, but the person that would normally help her isn't around. It really sucks for Danila when he finds out all that happened while he was gone and how his crew let his girl down.
I was glad when Danila went to Macy right away when he landed and found out her troubles. Better was the way that he helped her. Heck they hadn't even had time to build a relationship yet, the hint of one was there, but Danila did what he could and even asked his crew to help where they could.
I liked how things were resolved for Macy's family, but am torn how things ended with the couple. Part of me hates it, the other part thinks maybe this will be good, Macy can focus on school and Danila can focus on his new role and give them time to grow up a bit before coming back together. I guess we'll see as the series goes on.

The story line had potential but I feel it was missing more details. Don’t like that it basically ended in a cliffhanger especially after waiting so long for this book. I feel after the author hiatus all her books have been rushed and not complete (cliffhangers). Unlike her first books, which I love. Who knows how long we’ll have to wait to even see if this couple gets a happily ever after or any glimpse in their story.
This is what I call a "throwaway" story. There's a "happy for now" ending, but it does very little to advance either the story of Macy and Danny (except that they get to have sex now) or the over arching Houston underworld story. This is an author throwing a few thousand words at her fans to keep them appeased while introducing very little of substance.
The age gap isn't that much, but I just didn't like this couple. Also, there isn't a real happy ending. These people were too young and wanted different things. I didn't want them together. I wanted them to gain more life experience and figure out what they want, before trying to have a serious relationship with anyone. This was a waste of time.
...and shouldn't be allowed to procreate. Burt was a greedy selfish man only concerned with himself and money. Paulie wasn't too much better. He was seedy and disgusting along with being selfish and greedy.
Poor Mazy was caught between a rock and a hard place trying to save her stepmother from the awful plan her father hatched. The only person that came to her rescue was Danila. He vowed to protect Macy but was not in town when Burt made his attempt on his family. Danny felt that he let Macy down but made up for it.
Even though Macy and Danny loved each other, he felt that he was not good enough for her. All Macy could say was that they were "here and now" and she wanted him now. After everything was settled with Burt's plan, Macy and Danny made a vow to make their relationship work, no matter where in the world they were.
To be honest, I did not like the ending of this story. Danny and Macy got a "happy for now" instead of an HEA.
I've loved this series from the beginning and getting sneak peeks into other characters through previous books. I liked the angle of Danila and Macy when I first read the Christmas book, then when I read it a few more times I hoped they would get their own story and I am so glad that I held out for it. While it is a little more PG compared to the books it felt right for them. I hope there are more books. I even kinda hope for a book on Sean, but more importantly I'm hoping we get a part 2 to the couple. If not a whole story maybe another snippet in another Christmas book where they finally get their HEA with a Christmas Wedding.
I love this series and I have read all of The Russian Protectors novels. I've have waited for this final installment and feel that there should be more. The characters are so deep and powerful yet this felt rushed. Both Danny's and Kostya's book left me feeling like there was a "get it done" mantra. For me, the reader, the brevity of the story felt more like a highlight reel than a full, rich story like Nikolai or Sergei's stories. Wishing there was more.
Ummm, that just kind of ended, and it didn’t feel complete? I mean, I was reading it, loving it, all the emotions, have fast paced it all was, meeting the new characters. Our couple had their strife, worry, and problems, but they were making it all work out. They had settled on not worrying about the future and to live in the here and now, and then, as it ended, and they were going to be apart and miss each other, so is it an HEA? It didn’t even seem like an HFN with that ending. I need a complete story with a solid HEA, and I feel a little cheated here
I was to excited fot this book .. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Did I like the FMC and MMC? Yes, very.
But something was missing in the plot.. it was not enough.. maybe we'll have a sequel..in this case the HFN ending will be acceptable. The book was not bad but it wasn't that good.. it was..meh..
But still..can't wait for the next one .. This is one of my best mafia series 😍
Ohhhh this story of Danny and Macy is totally alpha man/man candy book, and even though Macy’s story is heartbreaking and Danny is seriously close to getting his butt handed to him on a plate by Nikolai! You are totally cheering for them to succeed, clear their names and totally get revenge on Macy’s father!
I love Roxie Rivera's series, and I was happy to see that we get another installment. This was a cute, but quick read that felt more like a prequel to a full sequel. There is a happy for now ending but I was satisfied on how it ended and the plot itself adds more story threads on the ongoing story arc which sets up a confrontation with the different criminal factions in the city.
I’ve waited for this book for a very long time. I did enjoy the story but it is only 179 pages and there are some editing issues (Chess/Jess). It is definitely a novella and allow I did enjoy meeting the characters again, the length and aspects of the story arch left me a bit disappointed.
No epilogue? I don't like books that don't have wrap ups of there stories. Could Handy or maybe Ten going to be next with a book? I would love to read about Ten he seems like a great character. This book was like a happy ever after for now. IMO.
i wish it wasn’t sooo short!!! but, i guess we’re gonna get a novel with their hea in the future (at least i hope so) since this story ended on a hfn !! as usual, i really enjoyed being back in this universe!
Danny is the sweetest guy. Of course he's hot, built and one tough mafia alpha male. Macy is strong and stubborn and perfect for him. I know we will see them in a future book again.
Only complaint is the ending. It feels incomplete. There was no discussion on how they were handling their future. I want to know what plans they agreed to. Maybe an epilogue a year later to show how it was going. Something!
HRP is one of the first series I absolutely fell in love with.. I hate to say it but this one just wasn't up to the standards of the rest. I absolutely enjoyed the H&h but this felt SUPER RUSHED and with a lot to be desired. I'm sad, I wanted to love it but it was just meh. 😔
I was so looking forward to this story and it was disappointingly short. The story and the characters are good and they were teased for multiple stories before I had such high hopes for a detailed story.
After waiting so many years for this book, I was excited. However, it was just ok. I felt like there was so much missing from the story especially the ending. The book seemed rushed and it left a meh feeling.
Loved that we finally got to Danny and Macy! What a great story! That father was something else. Of course it would have been perfect if we got a Vivian cameo But Nicolai is almost as good! So Artyom or Ilya next?
What happened!!! That ending, yo, I was not expecting that at all. I'm not a fan of spoilers, so be aware this book doesn't end the way you thought it would.
