Mafia Mayhem #1

The Capo's Boy

Rate this book
~ Nicky ~
I never intended to be a mobster's secret lover, but somehow I found myself in that position. It's been two years now and I can't say I hate it. It only becomes a problem when Vinnie's family tries to marry him off to someone else. I may be his little secret, but I refuse to be his side-piece.

When I find myself on the run, fearing for my life, I'm not sure who I can turn to, especially when I'm not positive Vinnie isn't behind the threats to my life. I was his dirty little secret and if he wants to get married, it made sense for him to get rid of me first. I just don't think I can take the fact that the man I love wants me dead.

~ Vinnie ~
He was supposed to be a one-night stand, but that turned into a week, and then a month, and then two years. Before I knew it, Nicky was engrained in my very soul. I would do anything for him, protect him from anyone, even the dangerous life I live.

When he ran from me, I knew I should let him go for his sake, but I can't. Being the caporegime of my mafia crime family means nothing to me without Nicky at my side. If I can figure out who is trying to kill him, I just might be able to bring him home. I just have to find him first.

Gay erotic romance. The material in this book contains explicit sexual content that is intended for mature audiences only. All characters involved are adults capable of consent, are over the age of eighteen, and are willing participants.

this was seriously awful 💀 i still zoomed right through it though. something about trashy mafia really gets me even when i'm rolling my eyes half the time. it was so stupid and poorly written i'm actually creased at how much i liked it anyway. i will still never recommend it tho because any credibility i have would go right out the window.

Nicky is Vinnie's kept boy. the book opens with the two of them in an argument because after two years, Nicky finds out that Vinnie has accepted an arranged marriage. he takes off and empties his bank account, taking a train to washington or something, escaping the threat from being a capo's gay lover. cos i guess made men can't be homosexual or else they'd be killed or something. how he managed to evade a bunch of trained criminals, i will never know, but he does it.

turns out Vinnie is actually a proud gay man and probably the nicest mafia man there ever was, letting his men quit whenever they liked and paying for his staff's college tuition. he never accepted the marriage proposal and is in fact madly in love with his little Nicky. uwu. he goes on the hunt to find Nick, who's being stalked by the Russians and the Irish for reasons that are never actually clarified in any way that makes sense.

after four months, he finds Nicky and professes his feelings and they go to Vegas to get married with Vinnie's grandfather's blessing. despite the fact the relationship was a secret for two years, everything is suddenly dandy and g-pa couldn't be happier for Vin. the sense, beloved... it doesn't exist. the small bit of friction comes when Vin's uncle gets mad about the nixed betrothal agreement but it gets tied up a bit too perfectly because every conflict in this is mild af and lasts for about two seconds.

this was hilariously bad tbh. the dialogue was godawful, there was definitely like bare minimum research done and instead we get an amalgamation of every cheap mafia romance ever. it was poorly strung together and there was no real chemistry between leads. i feel like it would have been way better had the relationship been well-established prior to the miscommunication instead of throwing us right in, but it is what it is.

gonna be laughing at this until i inevitably forget all about it

⭐️ 2/5 🌶️ 2/5

Okay, so here’s the deal—this book had so much potential. The blurb? Delicious. The promise? Intriguing as hell. I really wanted to like it… but the execution? Meh. I couldn’t fully connect with the main characters. One minute I was kinda vibing with them, and the next, I was full-body cringing. 😬

The writing style didn’t help much—it felt a little awkward and borderline cheesy in parts, and the pacing? All over the place. It either dragged or rushed through moments that actually needed attention. 🫠

Now let’s talk about the spice... or the lack of it. There were a couple of steamy scenes, sure, but they felt rushed and weirdly unearned. One scene literally had a “suddenly he came” moment and I just sat there like… already? That’s it? You good, bro? It just didn’t hit the way it should’ve. 💀

By halfway through, I found myself skimming more than reading, and that’s never a good sign. Sadly, this one just didn’t do it for me. 😅

Meh. This was fairly weak overall.

Nicky and Vinnie have been sleeping together/become more over the last two years. We get to see none of that build up.

So they're already in love with each other at the start, but we don't get to see how they fell in love. I think that was a big part that was missing from this. What about Nicky made him someone Vinnie would kill anyone for, what about Vinnie made Nicky so loyal, that he'd never betray him, that he was so in love with him he wanted more.

We never really...get that. They just are.

And the first 30% or so is them being apart because Nicky runs away and this mafia capo and all his resources can't find him. They spend 3 months apart.

How Nicky initially even gets out of the building is beyond me. Vinnie is standing right there, but somehow Nicky gets past him? And he doesn't call for his bodyguards standing *right there* to stop Nicky? Does he not run right after him? How did that even happen with this big bad mafia dude standing *right there*? Probably standing between Nicky and the door, although I guess not, for some reason.

It was just kind of silly from the start. And Nicky running away just because Vinnie is apparently marrying a woman? Instead of hearing Vinnie out? Because he believes some random dude he has never met before from Vinnie's family over Vinnie? Like that right there just makes Nicky look moronic.

But he manages to get away, get money, leave New York, and meet the exact person who would be able to give him tips on evading capture. How convenient.

Like damn, this guy who has no training and did not grow up in the mob himself is somehow smart enough to evade a very powerful underboss??? Make it make sense.

Then when Nicky and Vinnie properly reunite, Nicky seems to be hard of hearing, because Vinnie tells him *several times* that he's not marrying this woman and he told his family no and Nicky wasn't just a business arrangement and yet a few more times Nicky acts like Vinnie feels that way or that he'll just be hidden by Vinnie again.

Also, Vinnie tires to hide Nicky from his crime family for 2 years, but then his grandfather - the head of the crime family - is just...a-okay with Vinnie being with a guy openly and even marrying him? So where even is the tension? Why would this grandfather just be like "it's cool that you marry a guy"?? When he probably, for years, carried this notion that men can't be with men and so on? Like his sons learn it from someone.

This Italian mafia family has this culture to it and yet...just like that, it's no big deal? So Vinnie gets to go to Nicky and ask him to marry him - and then they do, but we the readers don't even get to see the wedding, which I also hate in books.

So they just hastily get married, we don't get to see it, they come back to New York, stuff happens but I was kinda over this story by then and was only reading to finish it at this point.

I gave 2 stars for some chemistry these two had at times. The sex was kinda hot at times - although a little too rushed at others - and I did love the possessiveness between them.

But that was...about it. I wanted to give this 2.5 stars, but the more I wrote this review, the more I realized how much I didn't like this story much at all.

Vinnie also didn't feel much like a mob boss. I hate to say it, but he almost felt too soft? I don't know, there's like a balance. I LOVE when mafia guys in these stories are pretty bad guys with almost anyone else but their love interest - or a select few people. Like the love interest is their exception, almost.

But Vinnie was fairly nice to almost everyone - except his enemies or those trying to kill him or his Uncle Frank who was trying to fuck him over etc etc - and actually didn't want to be in the family business but he the most capable for the job, so oh well.

But like...I don't know, I want more grit and darkness and and mayhem in my mafia romances. I want at least the mafia guy to be pretty fucked up and in the grey area but he's soft and kind to only his love interest and likes maybe a few select others as well. But he'll fuck up anyone else, especially those who touch or threaten his love interest. That's what I like most about mafia stories.

And this just...didn't have this element. Or it tried and it was just...barley there. Some possessiveness - which again, I did like - but not a ton. Like maybe seeing Vinnie actually fuck up those who tried to hurt Nicky. He kinda does, but not all the way, because mafia politics. Like maybe he could have even beat them up? Like lets get personal with those who tried to hurt the love of his life? But nah, it doesn't happen like that.

Instead one just get kneecapped by Vinnie shooting him and that's it?

So disappointing.

This wasn't a great first outing with this author, I'm afraid, and it makes me very weary of ever picking up a story by this author again, unfortunately. I don't know if I ever will after this not so good first go at it.

Oh well, we can't win 'em all. Onto the next.

P.S. there are grammatical mistakes throughout. Although not too egregious, they're noticeable.

It was fine. It was shortish, simple and sweet. I just feel like it would be so much better if their meeting was somehow in the book. Like a short couple chapters in the beginning and then it could skip to the actual story. I feel like I would have been able to connect to the characters a lot more.

The Capo's Boy didn't work for me. I should have known from the title alone that I wouldn't like it. The word "baby" was used way too much, the whole book needed some editing, and such strong dependence on another is a turn off.

My rating is personal preference and I realize that everyone will have their own likes and dislikes!

While I did enjoy this novel, it is in major need of line editing. I did like the characterization and plot, but the wording gets awkward at times. Also, there are many times when characters speak in a fashion that I cannot pretend that sort of character would actually say. For example:

A mob boss supposedly says this:
"Our penthouse has ten bedrooms, thirteen bathrooms, three powder rooms, a large salon, open terrace, formal dining room, kitchen, family dining room, two smaller salons, an office, a game room, a temperature-controlled wine room, a theater, pool, sauna, gym, racket ball (sic) court, servant's (sic) quarters, catering kitchen, a grand ballroom, and a spectacular view of the Hudson River."

In short, I did like the story, but the execution reads like a first draft.

It was enjoyable, packed with actions and loved the romance between Vinnie and Nicky. The violence was bearable and I liked the surprise when Vinnie's "so called" fiancée turned out to be Nicky's best friend!

I enjoyed this book a LOT.

My only real beef was that Vinnie, the mafia guy, was too sane. I want my mafia guys to be unhinged. Uber possessive and borderline psychotic. *I realize this says a lot about me, but move past it*

Nicky, realizing his "business arrangement turned love" affair with Vinnie, would crash and burn because "you can't be gay in the mafia" decides to do a runner.

Vinnie is not going to marry the lady that Uncle Frankie is pushing on him. Vinnie is in love with Nicky. But Nicky is good at running away, and Vinnie is trying to find him.

While this is happening, Demitri and O'Donnell *two separate mafia bosses* are trying to mess up stuff with Vinnie, and Uncle Frankie is off the rails.

There's a lot happening in this story, and I really enjoyed it. Nicky is strong, determined, brave, and knows his worth. He really makes Vinnie work for it. I was super entertained.

Perfect if you like mafia light stories with not a lot of sexy times.

Again, while I enjoyed it, I would have LOVED it if Vinnie was absolutely unhinged and a bit more crazy. Good read!

I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would.

The formula is a little different. It basically starts out at the third act break up. So off page Vinnie who is a mafia capo meets Nicky at a club and instantly falls for him eventually making him his kept boy. He sets him up in an apartment, buys him everything and goes over to see him a few times a week. They have this arrangement for two years. But Nicky is his “dirty secret” because a mafia boss can’t be gay. At least that’s what Nicky thinks.

So in this opening scene we have Nicky breaking things off with Vinnie because he heard that Vinnie is going to be married off to some woman his grandfather chose for him and Nicky refuses to be a side piece to a man he’s fallen in love with. So he’s heartbroken and he runs away from Vinnie and Vinnie is not happy about this at all. See, Vinnie has no intentions of marrying this woman and has even told his grandfather that. Vinnie has no plans of being with anyone who isn’t Nicky because Nicky is his everything. But Nicky doesn’t know that so he runs away and hides from Vinnie thinking Vinnie is going to kill him because he knows too much. So four months later Vinnie finally finds him and that’s when the romance portion happens.

I actually really liked these two together. I loved that Vinnie, being a mafia boss, was so sweet with Nicky. You could tell that Nicky really did mean so much to him, he would burn the world down for him. Vinnie was honestly a great character.

I liked Nicky as well. I liked that he wasn’t some damsel in distress. Even though people came after him he always defended himself and didn’t let anyone give him shit and I liked that.

The only part I’m not too in love with is Vinnie being a mafia capo. So this guy is a boss…but it felt like all his men were the ones making decisions and coming up with ideas. Like his men would say oh we should do this and he would be like oh yeah that’s a good idea, I didn’t think of that. Idk it’s hard to explain but it was like he wasn’t even a boss, he was just playing at it and his men were the ones with the brilliant ideas on how to handle things.

Still I did enjoy the book and will definitely be reading the next one.

5 stars….
Is this some sick twisted joke…? WHERE HAS THIS BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE. Okay I’m being only a little dramatic… I looooove the micro trope of reading a book about an already existing couple that is having some kinda of issue (usually communication of some kind). I read a book a few years ago and think about it weekly that was similar and I got the same enjoyment here.

I personally usually avoid mafia books because they often are too dark, long, and/or scummy. Like the men are man whores or they cheat or they are like too violent if that makes sense but not this man. Nope! The capo, Vinnie, is an Italian mobster who is absolutely in love with his lover and would do anything to protect him and is incredibly loyal and amazing and Nicky just wants to be Vinnie’s main squeeze!!!! I loved this, can’t wait for more.

2/5 on spice. 1/5 on kink. 1/5 on tears.

I tried this book a while back and wasn't in the mood for it. Apparently, my mood has changed. Don't go into this expecting a whole lot. It's definitely OTT and ridiculous. You have to throw everything you know out the window and just go with it. But...they're like crack to me. I can't get enough of possessive, obsessive men who will burn the world down for their man.

Hmm, mixed feelings.
I haven’t read the Marriage Mayhem series yet because none of the books really caught my interest, but this one definitely did. The blurb was very enticing and promising. Overall, I’m satisfied, but there were some definite issues.
My major issue is that the writing seems somewhat amateurish. This seems like something I would have read on Wattpad from an amateur writer who has great ideas, but definitely didn’t expect it from an author who produced a pretty popular MM mafia romance series. I don’t know, maybe the books in that series is the same way, but I just don’t know because I haven’t read them yet.
So I’ve read a multitude of MM mafia romance novels. Honestly it’s one of my favorite tropes. Maybe it’s not their writing style or I’m being too prejudiced from reading too many good mafia romances, but this author produced a too lighthearted mafia boss in my eyes. Yes, Vinnie was possessive and would die for his love, Nicky, but he has a lot of weaknesses. My standard of a mafia boss is probably unrealistic, but there are a lot of moments throughout the book where you’re just thinking “wow, Vinnie is kind of a coward”. Mafia bosses are usually dark and mysterious, but maybe I’m just used to those kinds. I’m sure other readers love Vinnie, but for me, he seems too weak to be a five star for me.
Also, their are elements throughout the plot that just scream to me “amateur”. Like multiple repeated phrases which we usually see in new writers who don’t really make use of a thesaurus or just aren’t very creative, and holes in the plot where characters discuss something as if they hadn’t already discussed it in the previous chapter. Super confusing. It’s almost like the author took a break between chapters and forgot that they already mentioned that one part in the previous chapters.
But anyways, the great plot really did it for me. I think it probably could’ve been more complex and thought out, but honestly, it doesn’t really bother me too much in the end. Also the very steamy bed scenes were a treat. Would’ve loved to have a book with their entire love story, not just the marriage and all that, but we’ll make do with what the author gave us.
7/10 would recommend for any lover of the mafia trope and reads MM romance.

Tropes: forbidden relationship, rich/poor
Feels: 3.5/5
Steam*: 3.5/5
Kinks: no
Angst: low
HEA: yes
Pairing: MM
Triggers/potential icks: mafia, murder, violence

Nicky has been dating/ the kept boy of Caporegime Vinnie for 2 years. He leaves Vinnie when he hears that he has gotten engaged to a woman. He didn't get engaged this was just someone trying to manipulate Vinnie. Vinnie wants him back. Vinnie has to deal with threats from within his family and external to his family.

This was an okay book. It was different from what I usually read. I don't usually read Mafia stories. So it's a bit odd for me to judge lol. I liked how committed Vinnie was to his feelings, and how he wouldn't take any shit. I did find this book surprisingly light and low angst all things considered.

Some notable moments:

"I think the not knowing what had happened to Nicky was the worst part of all of this. If I truly knew he was out there somewhere living his best life—even if he didn't want me in it—I might have been able to accept that. Not knowing if he was alive or dead was killing me."

"He went straight to the bag he had left on the counter earlier and pulled out a gun. "Where did you get that?" I asked. "I took it off one of those vodka guys." Vodka guys? "Dmitri, did one of your guys lose his gun?" I asked. I grinned when Dmitri sighed. "Yes, one of my men reported that your fiancé took his gun. He'd like it back if at all possible.""

""You marry her." Frank glared. "I'm already married." I grinned with pure delight as I held up my hand and wiggled my ring finger. "Funny, so am I." Frank's jaw dropped."

*FYI, I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink."

Its a fast paced enjoyable read, I enjoyed the concept and set up of the story. Nicky going on the run, how he outwits them and finding work - putting himself first.

Sadly time is skipped over, events are rushed continuously and the romance was lacking. They're together before the book starts which actually was great and made for the fun start. However the time spent apart and when reunite it's all just too fast to really show their relationship developed.

Plenty of steam and chemistry, but didn't really get to see what they liked about each other outside of their attraction/possession. So the romance didn't really hit, still I enjoyed the mafia aspects and action scenes. The variety of characters are wonderful too.

Overall it was entertaining for a short sweet read, but could have been more.

Disappointing

I mean, it wasn’t bad, really. It was just kind of…boring. We jump into the story after Vinnie and Nicky have been together for two years. After two years, you’d think Nicky, who’s in love with Vinnie, would give Vinnie the benefit of the doubt. Maybe just a little. But no, he takes the word of someone else and then never gives Vinnie the chance to explain. Ugh. First act miscommunication that leads to a 4 month breakup. I should have given up then, but I really didn’t want to DNF the first book of 2024. Oh well, that’ll teach me.

It never really got better. Several plot lines pop up through the story and each seems to get resolved in a way that is way too convenient for a mafia book. Vinnie utters the phrase “with extreme prejudice” at least three times in the book and calls his granddaddy to tattle on several family members multiple times. Some mafia head he turned out to be. All in all, not worth the time I put into reading it and severely disappointing.

DNF @ 40%.

I honestly couldn’t get attached to these characters. I mean, I almost reached the halfway point and I couldn’t tell you a single endearing quality that either MMC have. There was a lot of telling and not showing, and the unnatural dialogue didn’t help. There were also A LOT of repetitive thoughts within the inner monologue, and the entire plot just felt…messy. I struggled following what was happening in Vinnie’s chapters.

This book is part of a series (although I was under the assumption it could be read as a standalone when I picked it up), so I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt that the reason it didn’t resonate with me was because I was missing key information from the previous books.

Fantastic

I literally couldn’t stop reading until I finished the book. Part of me really wanted Nicky to be independent, but I’m so glad that Vinny was able to prove his love! That was a rollercoaster of a book, but I can’t wait to read even more from this author!

3.5⭐️ I love this series so much and I didn’t even notice a new book had been released at first. I didn’t make the connection on who Vinnie was until I heard his last name and then I got even more hyped. This was much different than the rest of the series and didn’t follow the marriage concept that most of the books have. While I did miss it, I liked the new concept as well. I do wish we got to see a scene where Nicky and Vinnie went to Italy to meet Carlos but that’s ok. Overall, I really enjoyed it and I hope we get more for the series.

This was fun. I've enjoyed all of the Marriage Mayhem books. Spent the majority of this one trying to work out how this was related. I guess it's been long enough since I read Jai's story to remember. Glad it was cleared up in the end. Nicky was great. I find myself sort of just wanting slice-of-life of Vinnie's household, though. The family that works for him could be vastly entertaining.

re-read: still enjoyable. would like more books: marco, bruno, gino maybe? hell, I'd take one of Mary and Nicky having college adventures. definitely getting more out of the connected series by binge reading them. as with all the others, it could have used some more editing/proofing. but I love the story and characters so much that I don't let it bother me.

this and all future rereads: enjoy this one. not my favorite of the series. but I do love how connected it is to the other series and how it sets everything up for this mafia series.

Nicky went right back to being a wallflower after taking Vinnie back, quite disappointing. What was even more disappointing was having to hear Uncle Frank’s spiel endless times throughout the book, good grief.

Vinnie never apologized for how terrible he was to Nicky when Nicky left (everything was his) and yet wanted Nicky to go right back to living off him. Can’t believe this was never addressed.

How could this book end without an epilogue of Nicky meeting Vinnie’s grandfather? How disappointing.

Second chance romances rarely work for me and I’m not sure it did here. We were often told how much Vinnie wanted Nicky, but never really shown.

Sometimes I just need a palate cleanser and because I don't read a lot of mafia books, this one was just that, and it served its purpose.

I haven't read the other books, so I definitely feel I missed some things, but nothing that would spoil the story. It was on okay read, nothing phenomenal. However I absolutely HATE that I have no idea how old these characters are, and their actions always confused me regarding that.

My old boss at work regularly spoke about the mafia romances she'd read. Well eventually I decided to give one a shot but, obviously I had to find a gay one. From pretty much the beginning this book had it's hooks deep in my brain. I read this in about two days and was constantly annoyed whenever I'd have to put the book down, I even went so far as to read it on my break and I don't read romances at work.

Of course the cover art is supposed to be Vinnie and Nicky but in my minds eye Vinnie had more stubble than a beard and I wouldn't say that Nicky was twink-like in my imagining but he was a little thinner, fewer muscles, and blonde for some reason. This is all is because Nicky is described as pretty fem. I do wish Vinnie had some claws, I know for most of the story he's forced to sit on his hands but he doesn't read as mafia man to me, more executive business owner who has some unsavory connections.

Vinnie gets alerts whenever Nicky gets a text or a call, tracks him by phone, fantasizes about putting a chip in his ass. Like, hot but super toxic. I will say that I am attracted to red flags, all of my exes have been walking red flags.

The big plot about Vinnie being betrothed is kinda a let down in the end. The lady turns out to Vinnie is also really toxic when she was really being foisted on him. Asking if she's trans, going on to explain the term to another character, and then stating that if she doesn't have a dick he wasn't interested.

I will say the reveal near the end was interesting. Nicky goes back to get the coat he'd sold to a friend

Really I found myself continually asking, when are we going to Italy? I'm very upset that we never went. It looks like the rest of the series each book is for a different couple. Which, that's fine, it just means all of the mafias are gay. Like, cool, I'll enjoy that but, we won't get to go to Italy.

' Nicky was a bargaining chi[. A liability. There was an unwritten rule that you didn't go after the women and children of other mafia families. Nicky was neither of those, which made him fair game.' That's always a very interesting concept and the author goes on to explain why it exists later. But

' "I get an alert if anyone messages him." Yes, I was a controlling, obsessive, paranoid bastard. I freely admit that. But Nicky had accepted that about me. I wanted to know where he was, what he was doing, and who he was meeting every second of every day. 'd put a tracking chip in his ass if I thought I could get away with it. A smile started to spread across my lips as an idea hit me. Maybe I could put a tracking chip in his ass. '

' "Yes and no is not an answer, Vinnie. It's a time between lies of omission and unanswered questions." ' I really loved this line and it really shows Nicky having some backbone.

I entered this book with high expectations. The combination of MM romance with a Mafia trope seemed like a promising concept, but it ultimately fell flat, resulting in a disappointing read.

☎️ Vinnie, supposedly a mafia boss comes off as a weak and somewhat unconvincing character in the grand scheme of organized crime dynamics. Despite his position of power this guy spends the better part of the novel on the phone getting advice from his grandfather. He simply lacks the authority, charisma and strength typically associated with Mafia bosses, leaving me wanting more depth and complexity in his portrayal to truly embody the essence of a formidable leader.

🔫 Nicky, the spirited and independent other half of this couple finds himself entangled in a web of danger after he initially runs away from Vinnie and is found and dragged back into a quick marriage. Nicky’s monologue continuously explains his feelings for Vinnie but the novel still fails to establish a significant connection between both characters or to evoke a palpable chemistry between them.

Despite their potential as compelling characters, Nicky's and Vinnie’s interactions lack the tension and passion expected in a Mafia romance, resulting in a lackluster portrayal of their relationship.

In conclusion, "The Capo’s Boy" struggles to encapsulate the essence of the Mafia trope effectively. With a weak portrayal of the mafia boss and a lack of genuine chemistry between the main characters, the book falls short of delivering the intense and captivating romance intertwined with the dangerous world of organized crime that make a book a successful read.

Additionally, the writing style exhibits inconsistencies, veering between relaxed and complex tones that suggest disjointed storytelling, hindering the overall cohesion of the narrative. While the book may have had promising potential, its execution ultimately falters, leaving me disappointed in the missed opportunities that could have been, had the intriguing premise originally presented within the novel been executed better.

The Capo's Boy (Mafia Mayhem 1)

******* Spoiler Alert *******
I have a secret love for Mafia Romances whether they be M/M or M/F does not matter.
I started reading this as a bit of a break from an ARC review I was doing. Huge mistake. I completely binged the entire story it was so good!
The story began with Nicky misunderstanding what was happening. He heard Vinnie was getting married and he was already a kept man but he didn't want to be any man's mistress.
So he ran. Grabbed $3000. from the ATM, crossed Central Park to his friend Tony. He knew he would want his Louis Vuitton jacket so he sold it to him for $2500 but Tony sold him out.
He ran and kept running through Chicago where Vinnie's people lost him. Nicky ended up in a tiny town in Washington. He made sure he knew all the back roads in and out of the town. He was doing great until the Russian Mafia showed. That was the beginning of the Mayhem. Meanwhile, Vinnie has spoken with his grandfather and told him someone caused Nicky to run. His Grandfather the Mafia Don in Italy told his grandson to bring his Nicky to Italy. They also talked about being under the Family Veil. Spouses and Children are protected.
The Russian Mafia actually helped Vinnie when he had gone to see Nicky sans bodyguard. They let him know someone was trying to kill him- more Mayhem! They make it to the airport, flew to Vegas and back to NYC by morning.
More trouble waits in NYC. - the fiance is arriving soon that he was "supposed " to marry but never signed the marriage contract.
More Mayhem between Irish Mafia and Russian Mafia vs Italian Mafia.
This is such a great story. It is filled with guns, kidnapping, bodyguards, expensive penthouses, dead bodies, and tons of erotica!

This is an absolute MUST READ!

10/10++

Nicky is essentially a well kept sugar baby to the acting head of the mafia Vinnie. ( Vinnie’s grandfather in Italy is the actual head). We come in after they’ve already been “together” for a while. But Nicky finds out that Vinnie is set to marry a woman and he throws a temper tantrum and flees NY

They are separated for like 3 months, Vinnie’s enemies try to kill Nicky, Vinnie saves him and brings him back, more attempts on Nicky’s life, HEA.

The main plot was fine. It was a lot plot holes/ little things that just ruined what would have been a fine book. It was never gonna be amazing but it could have been okay.

First the fact that Nicky evades seasoned criminals that seem to have endless money and thus resources at their disposal despite the fact that he has no criminal background and only 6k. Again…. For months Vinnie can’t find him. He didn’t even know that Nicky closed out his accounts despite claiming he would have definitely noticed if Nicky used a credit card…… would you????? Because you didn’t know that he emptied accounts that YOU OPENED FOR HIM! Make it make sense .

Vinnie’s enemies have no problem finding Nicky though …..

VINNIE was too much of a puppet. He calls his grandfather for everything….. tattletelling and asking for permission constantly. It was not hot. He also didn’t feel nearly deadly enough. I mean fine he has body guards…. That makes sense, but I didn’t like that he seemed to need them vs they are there because he should have people who take the first like of fire because he’s too important to die. I’m used to
Darker and more capable antihero’s. Vinnie was just a little too regular degular for me.

I’m reading for the fantasy…..I wanted Vinnie to be deadlier, smarter, stronger, and generally just “more”

The Capo's Boy Book 1 by Aja Foxx is my first time reading by this author. I picked up this book because I like reading about the Mafia and its families, and this book about a Mafia capo was not entirely what I had expected. This was nothing like what I had read before.

Vinnie is a Capo of a Borelli crime family, he is openly gay, something not acceptable being a Mafia capo but he has no concerns about it, and since the time he had a one-night stand with Nicky, he could not let him go.
When Nicky learns after two years of being together that Vinnie is getting married to a woman he runs away and makes a life for himself far away from New York fearing for his life. Vinnie tracks him down and brings him back declaring his love for Nicky and they get married. So far so good. There is a grandfather, head of the Borelli family, who has no issues with Vinnie being gay, and there is nothing about him in the story other than phone call conversations between Vinnie and his grandfather, and then there is an uncle Frankie who tries to get Vinnie married off to the woman he had chosen knowing that his nephew is gay. A bit surprised here. The characterization of each actor in this book needed extra work and outline.
Though the storyline had good potential to make it into a great romantic suspense it somehow fizzled out somewhere in the middle of the book. And of course, there are some enemies out to get Vinnie and go after Nicky to hurt him. There were some places in the book that needed more clarity.
This book left me a bit disappointed. In spite of not having much to look forward to I could finish it, as it kept me entertained, and it had some good moments too, that kept me reading till the abrupt ending.

This was book 1 in the "Mafia Mayhem" series. Nicky has been in a secret relationship with a Capo for the Italian mob Vinnie Borelli when he finds out that Vinnie is engaged to be married, he flees. Vinnie is a hot sexy alpha male who is a capo in the Italian mob his grandfather is the Don. When Nicky disappears, he is beside with worry for him not knowing where he is. Vinnie is also dealing with someone trying to kill him and his uncle trying to force him to marry a woman that he doesn't know even knowing that he is gay which he doesn't like. I really liked both of these characters when Russian men came into the bar he was working at and try to take him Nicky fights back and takes the guys gun he doesn't know who sent them he thinks it was Vinnie but when he calls him, and Vinnie tells him he wouldn't do that they are both confused. When Vinnie comes to get him, they are seconds away from being attacked. This was a really good read after they get married in Vegas they go back to NY. When the woman he is supposed to marry come to his house Vinnie tells her that he is already married and gay turns out Nicky knows her they used to be friends before she returned to Italy, and I really liked Marissa who decides to take one of his cousins. Nicky did not want the bodyguards but when he goes to see his friend Tony to get his jacket back, he learns a lesson when he has his bodyguard wait outside for him. This was a good read it had all of the things that I love in reading a mafia book it had some action some good sex scenes in it and a happy ending. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
