When Noelle recovers her memories, she's faced with a past she wants to remain buried. Everyone thinks she was a victim, but what if that wasn't the case? What if the things she's done to survive are far worse than anyone can ever imagine? One thing is for sure—Rafaelo can never find out what she did. As Noelle and Raf tiptoe around each other and their past connection, they have to wonder whether their relationship is truly fated, or...ill-fated.
Michele continues to scheme in the shadows. But he is also faced with a conundrum—his pet. His delusions know no limit, and he needs her adoration back. It doesn't matter that she now hates him, he will have her—dead or alive. But what will happen when he pushes her too far?
i actually have no words left. this is so poo-poo. i do not love, i cannot be fucked anymore. i’m so intrigued, but the characters fucking suck and the pacing is ass and i want everyone to die :)
also, im still so intrigued by michele’s obsession with zia, even though i literally want him to die for the sjit he put her through, i just feel so captivated by him watching her
no, you know what, im done. im ending the series. i wanted to persevere and try to finish, but the plot and characters are way too fucking much. everyone is evil and cruel and demonic, and the more i read the more i hate myself so i am done.
and this gets one star, not because it’s not entertaining, because ill tell you now, it is, but there is so much insufferable psychobabble and unforgivable actions that are just nonsensical. why is there so much rape(at the hands of lead charcaters?!?!!?), why is there so much evil.
also, why the fuck did noelle go from a interesting, fun character in book one to a maniacal psychotic, murdering rapist here?
PLOT TWIST UPON PLOT TWIST UPON FUCKING PLOT TWIST my heart can’t take this😭😭😭
NOELLE AND RAF: chef’s kiss🤌🏼🤌🏼 PERFECTTTT🛐🛐🛐 i lovee em sooo much and the spiceee😩😩
and MICHELE???? omggg the poor kid😩😩 but at the end of the day no matter how much i sympathise with him i am nooo way in hell forgiving him for the kinda shit he put zia throughhh😭 i am sooo ready for the YEARS LONG grovel Ms. Lancet has promised us🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
SAFETY (minor spoilers for the series)
Raf: virgin (has been r*ped by a man in the past) Noelle: has only ever sex with her ex husband who we later on get to know had multiple times forced himself on her Michele: virgin (been r*ped as a child by) Zia: virgin
I wasn't sure what to expect in this installment of the story, but I was absolutely blown away!
I don't know how Veronica does it but her characters are just so rich and complex, and the way she just continues to peel away their layers just makes me love her storytelling more and more.
This book is the one that flips everything on its head in this series. So many twists and turns, you're left wondering how you could have thought you had it figured out because nothing is as it seems. We see more of Zia in this one, and I am truly loving her character and the role she is playing in Michele's character arc.
It's true that there are no good guys in this, and you want to love them all at one point or another despite that fact.
I was up fighting sleep until 2 in the morning because I just HAD TO KNOW!! I'm completely enthralled in this world Veronica has created, and I can't praise her enough!!
I still HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING PRODIGAL SON BEFORE THIS! I don't care what anyone says, it is absolutely critical to the story to read it prior to this one, and if you choose not to read it, you're truly missing out on so much when it comes to Michele's character development. The newly added flashbacks in this one do not have the same impact, just trust me on this. Highly recommend!
*I received an ARC from the author in exchange for review
The narrative's connection to the previous installment, "The Foiled Plan," is a testament to the author's meticulous world-building and storytelling prowess. While this sequel amplifies the stakes and intrigue, it also carries a trigger warning, as it plumbs the depths of darkness and psychological turmoil. It's a tale that demands the reader's full emotional engagement, plunging them into a world where the line between right and wrong is blurred, and where survival often comes at the cost of one's morality.
"The Counterfeit Lover" is a masterful exploration of the human psyche in the midst of war, where the distinction between hero and villain becomes blurred and the true nature of survival is laid bare. This advanced reader copy is a compelling testament to the author's ability to craft complex characters, intricate relationships, and a plot that keeps readers guessing until the very end. Prepare to be immersed in a world of secrets, manipulation, and the tumultuous bonds of family—where nothing is as it seems.
I cannot wait to see Michele trying to win Zia back and is what Noelle did at the Hacienda in any way forgivable? let's wait and see. Veronica I would read ANYTHING YOU WRITE at this point. Thanks for the ARC.

I loved every part of it every heart wrenching part and every optimistic part. This book is the continuation of the War of Sin series and can't be read as a STANDALONE. This book has both Raf and Noelle's POV and Michelle's third person point of View. Veronica is very talented that she wrote a book like this. I'm so confused that which character I should love and whom to hate. Overall it's a good, no a very good book. Now when we have a look at everyone's past the future is still a mystery. I can't wait for the next books But I am in love with this series 😍😍 THANKS VERONICA FOR THE ARC. LOVE A LOT THIS SERIES ❤️
Vlad-Sisi moments and Enzo’s cameo *chef’s kiss* Noelle’s unhinged side *chef’s kiss* (but did she really r*ped him at hacienda?? Omg please NO I’ve enough trauma to last a lifetime) Raf & Noelle’s character development in this book *chef’s kiss* Venezia taking stand against Michele *chef’s kiss* The cliffhanger *chef’s kiss*
I thought I had figured all out but uh ho, noone can get Veronica’s level of thinking. All the twist upon twist blew my mind. And still there’s more to the story. Can’t wait for the bigger picture.
Andreas is my fav side character no doubt.
Cisco is so damn annoying, I hated him in Frivolous and that hatred has increased more in this series. Cisco please DIE🥰🙏
My heart breaks for Zia, she doesn’t deserves any of Michele cruelty. I can’t and won’t excuse his behaviour towards Zia at any cost. No matter his trauma. No matter his past. Nothing. But at the same time I sympathize with his character. I can’t make myself hate him. I understand him but he needs to GROVEL. He needs to make up to actions. After the relevation in the end there’s still redemption arc left now for him.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MICHELE DON’T DISAPPOINT. I am waiting for his trilogy
The book was great, but I wish we got to see more flashbacks. The things that happened to Michele were really bad and a great reason for him to be mad at Raf. I feel like a few more chapters should have been taken from the Prodigal Son to better explain it, as it feels slightly superficial now.
Apart from that, I really enjoyed learning more about the adorable way in which Zia and Michele first met. Those two gave me flutters, and I hope he manages to redeem himself for her in the next few books as his treatment of her somehow only gets worse.
Andreas is one of the best characters. Love his behind-the-scenes work!
SPOILERS Below
I love love love villainous Noelle! When she asked Michele to kill Lucero no matter what and to only let Raf live if he chose her, I screamed. She’s finally showing herself as an interesting and complex character with many sides and is ready to get what she wants no matter what. I am excited to read what she does next, especially since it seems that Michele has started to appreciate her as she has shown him her true self.
I’m also finding Cisco more and more annoying. I didn’t like him in Frivolous, and I like him even less now.
I also love that Michele is so self-aware. He doesn’t pretend to be the moral authority and doesn’t try to judge Noelle when she wants to kill Raf if he betrays her by choosing Lucero. Michele owns who he is. Being self-aware should be present in more books by other authors, honestly (I guess I can only hope).
The more I read the story, the more I agreed with Michele. I completely understand his hatred, and even the punishment that he inflicted on Raf feels deserved. He was completely abandoned by his brother and left alone. I just hope he managed to move past all his trauma and demons to be with Zia, as they would be perfect together. The story of them meeting when he was 13 and she was 5, and he tried to feed her was one of the most adorable things ever. However, his rape towards the end was really horrible. I hope he comes up with better ideas to ask for her forgiveness rather than to just give her gift baskets. It was a good idea for him to see how Vlad treats Sissi as Vlad can do no wrong in my eyes.
The end is tragic for me. Even after all he saw and did to Zia, he still refuses to bend and realise he should treat her better and earn her forgiveness, not just because he sees her as a possession.
I don't know how to feel about Michele.. he is good to everyone but why does he treat her like shit like bitch wtf has she done all she did was to love you deeply you should treat her like she's your world freaking princess!!
Why does the story ended like this😭🤌🏻 I can't wait for next book 😭😭 it's killing
huge thanks to Veronica Lancet for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Counterfeit Lover. i am truly grateful 🫶🏻
The Counterfeit Lover was originally the 4th book in War of Sins series. however, due to these complaints about The Prodigal Son being set entirely in the past, Veronica decided to make it a prequel. that being said, The Counterfeit Lover is now the 3rd book of the series.
let’s start with how talented Veronica Lancet is. i really enjoyed her writing style. it’s very descriptive and enthralling. i wasn’t expecting this book to be full of twists and surprises either. it was AMAZING.
this series is progressively getting better and better.
michele.. he’s a flawed and deeply broken character with no heart. i despised him in the first two books, but after reading everything he went through… okay, i know his terrible, cruel, and painful past didn’t justify some of his actions to zia, but i do have faith in him that he eventually will change for her, back to his old self that still had feelings, dreams, and ideals.
venezia..oh gosh.. i loved her character. she was so sweet and kind. and i cheered for her when she didn’t give it easy for michele to get her back. he needed to do more and more groveling.
raf & noelle.. i loved them. i always did. i still have so many questions about happened at Hacienda, but i’m pretty sure i’ll get the answers in the next book.
so yea, i am rooting for all of them to get their happily ever afters. ❤️🩹
also, shoutout to andreas for staying and always being there for michele🥹
3.5 ✧ at this point, i don't know what to think of this series anymore. the illogical obsession with the characters and the plot is still there, and i can't seem to distance myself from this universe (though i really want to because it's too sick, too twisted, and has many grammatical errors). i don't want to love the characters, and i don't want to understand their disgusting thoughts and beliefs, but i empathise with them.
Okay, okay, so I thought I had figured out the plot and BANG! PLOT TWIST!!
But I loved every second of these plot twists. I was certainly not expecting the unhinged side of Noelle at all. The spice between Noelle and Raf was *chef's kiss*. I also loveddd the development of their relationship throughout the book and how protective they grew of each other.
Michele, omg, Michele. He's such a complicated character, and he deserves so much love in the world. He loves Zia so much but can't even acknowledge it because he's so scared of loving and losing her. 💔
His determination towards Zia throughout the book was so sweet, even though it was in the most unhinged way. And how he went feral for her every time she said no to him, I was so sold on him.
That cliffhanger was so painful to stop the story. 😢
Also, I was so disappointed when Ms. Lancet had to unpublish The Prodigal Son because readers couldn't and refused to understand the depth of a character 😢. She doesn't deserve that hate, and neither does Michele (when no one knows his past). That was just a little rant of mine.
Please, please check your trigger warnings for this book, as there are quite a few.
Goodness, as always every Veronica book is like a work of art. There is so much hate and love in this book. 💌💌💌💌💌
I loved every part of this book, every heartbreaking part and every single part. This book is a continuation of a series and cannot be read as a Standalone book. This book has both Rafe and Noelle's POV and Michelle's third person point of view. Veronica is very talented and amazing writer. I was so confused about which of the characters I was supposed to love and which I was supposed to hate. I can't wait for all the series.
I've never cried so much. You are the best queen Veronica Lancet💔👑👑👑👑
This book and it's characters are possibly the most unpleasant I've ever read. I am never reading anything by this author ever again. I didn't finish this book and I don't intend to. I don't know how can people even read and give 3 freaking stars to this shit?? The FMC (Noelle) and second MMC (Michelle)are literally rapists. Psycho killers are acceptable but rape?? And how will the MMC (Raffaelo) and second FMC (Zia) forgive these two because from the spoilers I've seen they will.
I legit liked book 1 but it all went downhill from 2nd book.

It definitely got more interesting towards the end. It’s not my favorite series and it feels repetitive in some parts with the characters going around in circles and all the secrets but I am intrigued about Noelle’s past so looking forward to reading the next one.
Oh my god. I cant wait for the next 2 books. The UGH feeling the angst the mind boggling truth that was revealed. The omg. I dont know what to say. Speechless. I cried when the story was told in the previous books but this?! You make a plot twist like this?! YES PLEASE. MORE. I LOVE PAIN. I LOVE SUFFERING. honestly one of the best series ive read. I just love it when something makes me go crazy.
Imma be honest I had to dnf after reading about the abortion soup. It kept getting worse and worse and I mean nothing could prepare me for that. If this book is something you like good for you but I have found my limits on what I can handle

I just finished last night and I cannot stop thinking about this book! I am going to keep this review short because I don't want to spoil anything. The Counterfeit Lover by Veronica Lancet holds no bounds, Michele and Raf’s lives reek of torment and death. Throw your morals out the window. Secrets, lies and obsession this is a dark twisted game they play.
Everyone is hiding something and are all connected somehow. Best be quick before you get stabbed in the back. Oh the ANGST!
This series gripped me in such a way with it’s intense intricate webbed story. Even though the characters are hard to like by their actions, you do feel sympathetic to how they came to be. I’m astounded by the writing of this series, and the cliffhanger is by far the worst so far and you bet I will be continuing because I need to know what is in store for Raf & Noelle, and Zia & Michele. So many secrets have been revealed that were supposed to remain buried and its going to shake things up. Blood must be paid in blood.
So you're telling me that Michele was raped and his child was murdered and he wants revenge....he'll cross each and every boundary to get revenge because that's justified and its his right
Then he turns around and rapes zia (multiple times) and kills his own child (even though the foetus is alive but he doesn't know that does he....) and makes her drink the soup with the foetus legs, not to forget he leaks her video when she walks away from him....because apparently he can do whatever the hell he want and zia is supposed to take it all....
So who's gonna take revenge from him?
Because from where i see it....he is no different from the ones who did him wrong
He's a rapist and he's a child killer (just like his predators)
And not to forget, he assaulted cataline too....(yup....haven't forgotten about it at all....)
And i'm really curious of how the author is going to justify michele raping zia
Because apparently all others who did it...were justified ....not that I bought any of that justification expect for marcello...and that too only because the man did it under duress and punished himself for 10 years
But michele...he was mentally sane (unlike vlad who was justified because of his mental state) nor was their any dubious consent ( as with noelle and rafe) because zia clearly screamed no and michele was the one in control when he raped her
That man deserves to be locked up in a prison or better executed because he cant keep his dick to himself even when the woman said no

I’M SPOILED WITH PLOT TWISTS. FIRST FIRST WHY ALL THE CHARACTERS THAT I LOVED TURNS OUT TO MY MOST HATED ONES OR THE OPPOSITE ONES. I DONT KNOW.
I need to discuss something this is the last pov’s we get for MicheleZia in war of sin series and like what I said *Spoiler* she is not having an abortion and I’m excited see Michele’s fail ☺️ Zia I CRIED AND I SOB SOB AND SOB MY EYES STILL HAS THE TEARS ON IT AND THE PERSON WHO DID THAT is the person she thought she loves. He doesn’t deserve her love and her respect. Never. To be clear: Waiting for their return🫡
NOELLE I HATE YOU SO MUCH IT GROVING MUCH YOU DISGUSTING ME Raf is the INNOCENT ALL OF THEM and Zia too. Like Michele says we have common sides Noelle, yeah def you two crazy ass and obsessed ones it goes more creepy. Whenever I asked to myself, what they can do far more for their love? It went up MORE. Mali🥺🥺 I really wanna dig up the truth about baby 🩵
I WAS GAPED, SHOCKED, MY MOUTH IS DROPPING…
This book was OOOFFFF BUT WAS SO FINE I DON’T HAVE THR ANY SPOILERS AND THESE ALL SPONTANE FOR ME And the others Cisco and Yuyu I cursed so much but turns out they didn’t deserve the all of them???
Ok. So. I just don't understand this series. I was behind it (loosely) for book 1 and 2. I thought there was a lot of shock for shock's sake in book 2, but this book...went off the rails for me. I could not even finish it. I wanted to so badly because I live for a scarred character and scars being discovered but in the end it was just....bizarre. Out of left field. Could not follow and had to stop reading it.
Well. I’m obsessed with the dark and depraved world that Veronica Lancet created for us.
Michele is unhinged. His way of thinking is completely warped. He has zero morals or understanding of right and wrong. He’s trying perhaps but takes no fault for any of his actions. He’s completely obsessed with Zia - it’s unhealthy. Our sweet Zia. She’s gaining a backbone. It’s a start. She’s trying. And I cannot wait to see her stand up to Michele and watch him fall from his tall pedestal he stands upon. I want her to take out everything she has - on him. I want him to fall so hard on his knees for her. I can’t wait.
Noelle - she’s not the women we thought she was in book one. As her memories return, she’s becoming what everyone feared. La Diabla all over again. Her main obsession is her husband. It’s him or nothing. If she can’t keep him, no one can. So many secrets.
Rafaelo is so love drunk on his wife, he’s trying to tame his inner beast to keep up his perfect image. But who is he really? I am personally super interested to see just who Rafaelo truly is. I want him to completely unleash everything that he is holding back. There are moments in this book, when he definitely unleashes the dark parts of him. And it was amazing to read - same with Noelle. Shit gets crazy in this book! There was a lot of twists and turns and events that blew my mind. Which is why I think it’s super important to read all the books in order, including The Prodigal Son.
At this point, I have no idea if Noelle and Raf are end game or not - but I can’t wait to find out.
