After the world ended and mankind fell, Professor Dorian rose from the ashes to create a new dawn. In doing so he created the peacekeepers, and the perfect being who held more importance than she would ever know. As she's thrown into training and life as a peacekeeper, she comes to realize there's something that sets her apart from the others. Lost in an array of emotions, she feels the only one she can turn to is her creator and mentor, the man who holds her fate in his grips.

In a compound built on secrets and lies, Hokura finds out there's more to their missions than scouting for rebels breaching the walls. Amid love, lies, deceit and betrayal, she comes to realize that where one secret ends, another begins and the one holding all the answers is the professor.

A fast-paced, thought-provoking science fiction adventure, Nicolette Fuller's 'Genesis' is a must-read for anyone who loves dystopian fiction. It's a story about the resilience of the human spirit, the power of friendship and teamwork, and the importance of never giving up hope, no matter how dire the situation may seem.

This story was set in the future and I could envision absolutely everything that went down, happening! There was deep friendship, loyalty, love and devotion to duty. Add in the villains both of whom sought ultimate power and superiority and damn the torpedoes, figuratively! Everything wove intricately together in this first book and I cannot wait for the next. There is so much more I want to add but I do not want to spoil the book for anyone. Well done!

This book is in equal parts intriguing and infuriating.

I enjoy the core concept of the book; a post nuclear dystopian society being run by a government with agendas of their own that they don’t share with those working for them. I enjoyed the relationship between Adam and Amara, and their scenes have less of the problems that appear in the rest of the book. I also enjoy Doctor Allen, he was my favourite character in the book, and certainly the character who was most active in trying to discover the secrets of the base. He gained the book half a star on his own. I also enjoyed just how creepy Professor Dorian was towards Hokura and the tension that this added to his every action ( I do hope it was intentional).

However, there are so many glaring errors that I cannot overlook them. The book really needed an editor as there are typos, incorrect tense, bad sentence structure and clunky dialogue used throughout.
An example of this is “There are pressing matters at hand at this moment. I don’t have time to observe them while out on duty at the moment.” There is no need for at this moment/at the moment to be repeated here. All it does is halt any momentum the dialogue had and make the reader consider the writing. This isn’t how people speak.
There is also an instance where the professors suit is described as being “a guise to disguise what was underneath” which immediately stopped me in my tracks to consider why this word was used instead of any of the synonyms: “ruse” “costume” “pretence” any of these would have flowed better with disguise coming straight after. It is strange to me that this wasn’t caught in the editing process.

Furthermore, the “relationship” between Hokura and the Rebel Commander James is focused on so little that it is actually laughable that we are supposed to believe that there is any kind of love connection between them. They meet four times in the course of the book – twice for the length of a conversation, once for a night, and then again right at the end when they leave together. But we are expected to accept the fact that James is completely and utterly in love with Hokura after the first meeting. Characters even comment that they are in love but Hokura just doesn’t know it yet, which is mad for characters that have had 4 conversations.

Overall, while there are aspects I enjoyed, the writing issues are too significant to overlook. I can’t give this book more than two stars.

Great story telling!

I loved the story and characters. Definitely a new twist on the dystopian genre. The only problem I had with it was how poorly edited it was. So many of the sentences were run-on or incomplete that I stopped counting the mistakes. But like I said, the story was really good!

Seriously needs an editor, and especially a proof reader to correct numerous mistakes on most pages. May be a good story here but SO SLOW, pages & pages of nothing much happening - and the writing is perhaps a 5th grade level?

The ideas of love in this book were ridiculous. No one understood it. Honestly it didn't feel like the author did either. I really had to drag my way through this book.
