The Lost Fae Kings #2

Song of the Sea King

Rate this book
The seas of Faerie and Albion need to be healed in order for magic to flow again, and it's up to one surly fae king and a lighthouse keeper with a strange gift to get the job done.

Mananan has to fix the oceans between Faerie and the human world to stop them both from dying. With a god killing sword and a willingness to use it, he's more than up to the task of defeating any monsters their enemies throw at him. The problem is, he needs to find the altars that are sucking the magic from the sea, and he has no idea where to start looking.

Ella's magical talent for seeing visions whenever she touches something has ensured she lives in seclusion and privacy. That is, right up until a kraken attacks her light house, and she is saved by Mananan. Being indebted to one of the fae is a dangerous business, but Ella has no choice. She has a skill they need to find the altars, and there's something about her that Mananan can't resist.

As they battle to save both worlds from a growing darkness, they'll discover that their love for each other is the strongest magic of all.

'Song of the Sea King' is book two in a new fated mate's trilogy, based in the same world as the best-selling 'Fae Universe' series. It’s perfect for fans of K F Breene and C N Crawford or anyone who loves Fae Romance with plenty of magic, myth, and spice. Please note it contains swearing, sex scenes and graphic violence.

How does Alessa Thorn continue to write some of the sweetest, sexiest, coziest books, filled with amazing mythology, and one of my favorite found families EVER?!?? 🖤⚔️✨

King Manannán (aka Celtic sea god) and member of the Tuatha Dé Danann, didn’t disappoint. I loved the glorious addition of Oberon, Manannán, and Taranis, in Dance of the Forest King. Just when I didn’t think I could possibly love the Fae princes, Ironwoods, Greatdrakes, and all of the other fantastic characters, the sexy Fae uncles walked onto the page. And if you’re new here… they’ve joined my favorite characters to try and save our world, and the magical Faerie realm of Albion, amidst an ancient battle between The Fomorians, and the Tuatha Dé Danann. 👀

Highly recommend The Wrath of the Fae trilogy, the Ironwood series, and now The Lost Fae Kings trilogy, if you love Celtic and Norse Mythology, fantasy romance, PNR, fated mates, and swoon worthy male characters. But honestly Alessa Thorn never disappoints, so you should probably read her entire backlist!😉

Now back to my audiobook reread of The Ironwoods, while I wait for Taranis’s book. 😈

I had a feeling I would enjoy this book more than the first one, and I was right. Ella and Mananan had me in a chokehold.

We started off pretty well by learning Ella's name is Marella, which is almost (ok, that's a stretch) my name, and this will always be a big event to me. Also, Bayn and Freya, as expected, were more present in this book, and they're my faves.

Ella is somewhat different from the others FMC, more complex maybe. Her friendship with the girls has really made me tear up. I don't know her age though, and this is one of my biggest pet peeves. Like, just give the info, it's not that hard.

Manan is a total simp for Ella. He was so patient with her it broke my heart. Also, head under water 🥵🤌🏻 having a king of seas as a mate really has its perks.

FYI/TW: there's a brief mention of domestic violence and psychological abuse experienced by the FMC in a past relationship.

Alessa doesn’t miss!!

I am so excited to be back in this world of magic, action, and mates! There is something so so special about the worlds Alessa creates. You feel as though you are coming home to your loud, loving, and slightly feral family. The found family vibes are off the charts and watching them all interact is so entertaining. Ella is the sweetest little shy girl, who has been repeatedly wronged by the world, and watching her open up and feel appreciated and safe was so heartwarming. Then we have Mananan our broody dark king (will forever be salmon man in my heart). He is the perfect blend of grumpy, possessive and sweet. Song if the Sea King was everything I wanted and more, and now Im just getting more and more excited for our dragon daddy and for when it’s the greatdrakes’ turn!!

A not to be missed series

Anxciously awaiting the next book. The whole set of series from the " Wrath of the Fae" to the " The Lost Fae Kings" and all companion books are not to be missed by any lover of paranormal romance. These books have it all from ancient kings to handsome Fae dragon kings. There are witches, warlocks, battling human women, and ancient gods.
Add in the facts of novels that are well written with no editing mistakes ( very common in a lot of self-published books), witty dialog, and quick moving, well-paced action, and you have a winning set of books.

I continue to LOVE this ever-growing fae-universe that Alessa has built. The perfect blend of myth in a modern day setting.

We get introduced to Ella in this installment and she is as relatable as any, particularly female, character Alessa writes.

"They said I have no choice but to be their friend. I don't… I don't make friends easily."

She's got some trauma and some insecurity. As a fellow introvert I feel as though I related to her on a whole other level when it came to making friends.

Lucky for Ella, no one does found family like Alessa and this universe has THE found family.

We get some cameos from the rest of the family that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face and honestly just made me want to go back to beginning and start all over 🥰

Three and a half stars. A roller coaster of a book that was so good then took a 180 into WTF and that had one of the best monster kills I've ever enjoyed in a book.

What is consistent throughout the series is that there is always a woman who is in distress from having been abused at some point in her life and learning to come back from it. And the writing of the characters is so well done that these are fully rounded quote people quote that you get connected to and have feelings for.

Now I'm going to be honest, see or ocean themed stuff is 100% not my interest. But these two characters were fun to read. Very plausible setup in the meat and the emotions that went along with it. I will tell you that at one point the FMC does a 180 and is completely out of character. Really freaking annoying! I even have a special shelf for it called female MC go stupid for plot announcement.

There might have been another way to make the story happen without her doing that but c'est la vie. Is it showing that she's got another part of her that's reckless? Yeah you could argue that, but mostly I saw it as a literary device to bring the story where the author wanted it to go and that annoys me because like the author herself, we as her audience are intelligent enough to see what's going on.

But then the book redeemed itself with one of the most comedic, engaging, scary and satisfying retribution when the monster was killed. Really hard not to give you a spoiler here but there it is. Definitely makes the book worth reading. Like the story of Oberon before it, this is one that I wish had had a different narrator. I didn't like it enough to even listen to it so I read the book instead with an e-reader and the Google AI sounded better than the narrator.

Anyhow overall a good read more fun in the story and this excellent universe that Alessa created.

Look forward to the next one and is it the last one? It would seem not considering what happened at the end. As a final note I will say I really enjoy the fact that she always folds in the characters from the previous books and gives a special nod to the couple from the last book before the one you're reading. And also you get a setup for the next book.

I enjoy that as a way to bring you into the next part of the series without it being a cliffhanger that's annoying.

So overall 3.5

Ella is the perfect addition to the family!

This story was such a treat and I can’t wait until we see more of our Dragon Daddy in the next book.

Back to Ella and Mananon. They are so sweet together and a grumpy /sunshine that’ll make you swoon. Manon is a classic protective male and does everything to make sure his lady is cared for.

Ella is such a sweet soul and shows her bravery in doing everything she can to help destroy the alters.

This story is low angst when it comes to the relationship, but the plot kept me hooked.

The spice 🧜🏽‍♂️🔥🥵

I love Alessa Thorn. Love. But this series is not as captivating to me as the Mercenaries and Magic or Court of the Underworld series. I think she has less to say here or maybe the focus on making happy endings for monsters is missing. I don’t know. But I’m going to read every book she publishes forever because even the ones that are not as good are still a lot of fun to read with great characters and interesting plots. Also seeing the family pop up is fun each time.

All in all, this was a fun ride

I love Alessa’s fae world so much, every time you think you’ve seen it all she just blows it all out of the water (in one part of this book… quite literally!) I loved that we got to see more of Faerie! Also, even though each book is centred on a different couple, we get so much more of the family - banter, arguments, snipes, support and all! I just adore them - it means I spend half of the book cackling with laughter! I think Imogen is still my favourite - some of the stuff she says is just fantastic!

Ella is wonderful, she’s not as outwardly physically strong or a fighter like some of the others but she is someone who has dealt with and over come a lot which leaves her with a control and steadfast resilience that is inspiring. She lives in a small isolated lighthouse (want!) and has a douche bag of an ex (hate him…) and struggles with sensory issues because of her magic. Mananan is, right from the beginning, protective, supportive and coaxes her out of her shell. I kinda wish he’d killed the ex but, you know, humans frown upon m@rder 🙄. Mananan is a totally hot sea God and is hot as H3ll - need I say more?!

Plus the glimpses we get of Taranis makes me so desperate for his books…. Dragons!!!! That’s all I’ll say!

CHEESY! I can't! The dialogue between the mates and female mating group is beyond corny but I keep reading anyway...

The Sea King and his Little Lighthouse Keeper. 💙💙💙

This Fae Universe of @alessathorn’s is just the most wonderful place to visit every time she graces us with a new story.

Ella, our little lighthouse keeper, doesn’t like being touched, because her “gift” is psychometry: she knows a person’s every dark thought just by touching them. It has led to quite a lonely life for her, especially since her Grandmother’s death. Enter Mananan, the Fae Sea King, a sexy “Daddy” of the Sea, who literally saves her life from a Kraken (yeah!) and becomes hopelessly entangled with her ever after.

A fun, quick, spicy adventure, with sea battles, magic, and all the (ever-expanding) found family you could ever wish for!

I’m so excited that Alessa keeps gifting us more of this world and this family, and I absolutely can’t wait for Taranis’s story!

What this book is giving:
✅ The best Found Family ever
✅ Fated Mates
✅ Little Lighthouse Keeper
✅ Grumpy/Protective Fae Male
✅ Magic
✅ Banter

Fantasy
Alessa Thorn
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

I really liked Ella's character and her talents. I wish they were explored more but it was nice see her grow a little more confident.

The pacing was ok but it was meant to be weeks between Mananan and Ella meeting and the bond mark appearing but it only felt like days because the plot had them seeing each other all of the time with very little breaks.

Killing the monster seemed a little too easy. The whole book was leading up to the mage and the evil creature he was working with and yet when they were finally found, the fight lasted about 3 pages.

I wasn't keen on the ending. I liked the reveal of what Taranis suspected and the last POV from the mystery mage but it seemed a little sudden.

This book was ok but it's not one of my favourite books by this author.

2.5 stars

The first half of this book was engaging, but around 65% it felt like it started to drag. There was more telling than showing and things started happening out of convenience, rather than in a way that felt meaningful. Ex: I need to do this, let me drink this potion, ok it took me here, now let me see if I can summon my guy, cool I can....then that guy teleports with a group because we can all the sudden amp up powers....battle resolved.
It just felt dispassionate and clunky. The last 20ish% felt like a chore, and there was very little action to keep my attention. I felt like the author got bored with her story.
Im going to continue because overall this series has been great, but this book was a miss for me.

i liked it. but the novelty of the series wore off a little bit. some things repeated themselves exactly like in the first book.

i really liked fmc’s grandmother. i wished she was alive so she and mananan could meet.
“I’m watching over you, kid. You’re not alone. Especially not with that hot man with you. Gods, if you don’t jump his bones soon, I’m going to start haunting you,” Deidra teased and kissed her cheeks”

i didn’t understand why mananan was stalling at claiming fmc and having “we are mates” talk.

Good series but..

I greatly enjoy this series but it is kind of upsetting that the conflict and fights usually happen once you hit 80%. Almost every book is about the Fae not wanting to tell their mates that they are mates until the conflict is resolved so someone else ends up telling the mate that they are so and so's mate. All the books are predictable in their layout but I do love the characters. This book took me the longest to read but I am excited for the last book in the series.

Alessa Thorn is a comfort author for me so I like to wait and binge her books! Since we have the Greatdrakes starting in April, time to read the rest of this series. Loved this one soooo much more than the first and I feel like we're back in business. Mananan was the grumpy sea fae daddy we all were needing and I loved the connection between him and Ella. This book just made me so happy and I couldn't help but jump into Taranis, our fae dragon daddy! Loved seeing the whole fae gang together again with a peep of Imogen the Crazy Badass!

Ahh this book was everything I wanted, and more 😭

💫 Mananan being perfectly grumpy BUT secretly swoony af (his terms of endearment?? His reassurances and promises?? Ahhhh). Also all the scenes depicting his raw power >>>>>>
💫 Ella! Ella was such a lovely MC, and her journey of claiming her independence and identity was so good

Um also hello, that ending?? I can't wait for Taran's book

Everything from Alessa Thorn is amazing and you should check it out! This book is no different! This whole world she has created continues with the sea king and trying to cleanse evil. The spice scenes are extremely well done with the right amount of detail to know what is going on and enjoy it without it being too "bland". I also love how she does the fated mates pairings and the tension between them before they actually complete the bond. It is everything I could ever ask for!

SOLID 4.5 stars!

Alessa can do no wrong! I love the Fae Universe so much and I am so glad that she keeps giving us more! And who doesn’t love a grumpy Sea God daddy who’s a sweet cinnamon roll for her only!!! Alessa always gives us female characters that are uniquely strong and the perfect match to their male counterparts! I love a FMC who can hold her own and is no damsel in distress! So if you love urban fantasy with fated mates, then I can’t recommend this book (and series) enough!!

Mananan was really sweet with her but also very respectful and conscious of her insecurities and history of trauma. He handled it all beautifully and never gave her time to doubt herself or him. Taranis is a pot stirring ass it seems who got way too much pleasure out of poking Mananan. I think the overarching storyline of the series is interesting and not repetitive like many series can be. On to #3!

delightful beach romp

This series continues to be an absolute delight. Found family, expanding with new characters and visits from old favorites. Love seeing the interplay between the uncles and the nephews as well as their mates. Get a bit more insight into the larger war and a fantastic teaser for the next book. Can’t wait to see how this series continues.

I loved the dynamic between Ella and Mananan. He was so patient and loving towards her, and Ella was truly a brave heroine. As someone who is scared of the deep sea, there was some calmness to the way the ocean scenes were written and it was lovely to think of the water in a serene way, not a death trap.

I loved Taranis and how it sets up for his book!

loved it!!

Another perfect installment. Both characters were given good amount of backstory for a standalone. This made their love story really work. I loved how he as so kind, gentle and patient with her while she got over past trauma. And I loved how she didn’t let her trauma stop her from pursuing him.

The found family is always so great in these books.

My whole entire heart

Ahhhhhhhh, I could literally stand on a rooftop and shriek into the void about this book. Mananan and Ella were so, so, so perfect. All of their tender moments made me absolutely feral. I am head over heels for everything about this book and can’t wait to see how the plot winds down in Taranis’ story.

Another exciting addition!

Yes, the grumpy Fae King of the Sea rescues a human lighthouse keeper and feels the mating pull. But his Emma has magic of her own and can’t bear the stimulation of touch. Dark beast and a dark mage target the water and earth so Manan and Emma will work together….

Such a stellar follow up to Dance of the Forest King. We get to learn more about our reserved and somewhat grumpy sea king Mananan, and seeing his romantic side is so incredibly sweet. We get more brotherly antics, which I LOVE, along with plenty of tension and action. The epilogue (and Taranis, let’s be honest) has me so excited for the next book!
