Forget everything the greeting card companies have taught you about him. The truth is finally coming out about the wickedness that is CUPID. A wild, bloody tale of Hell's own heart breaker. Left as a warning to be found by the world, come along and find out what happens when lust overpowers love.
Jason Myers (1983- ) grew up in Northwest Ohio. Avid reader for years he put aside his dreams of writing to raise his children and focus on being an EMT/Firefighter. With his loving wife's support he has been able to finish several short stories and has been published in horror anthologies as well as on his own. He currently resides and still serves his city of Maumee, Ohio.
In this well done eerie story you hear about the true nature of Cupid. Is he the little God of love shooting arrows on lovers? No, he's frightening. He's picking out the unfaithful on Valentine's Day and cruelly punishing them. One who saw him in action tells the uncanny tale. This Cupid is different. Once you read this story your image of Cupid will be forever changed. Be careful. Really recommended tale. Quite liked it!
This was a great premise, putting a wonderfully horrific spin on a beloved holiday character. The cupid was scary and memorable, and complimented the lead character in his plight. Unfortunately, the 3rd person narrative and extreme brevity of everything really did a disservice to an otherwise fantastic tale of the macabre. I would have much preferred a 1st person POV, much more development on our lead and his parent's relationship with each other and him, and a lot more time with the cupid. All of those changes would have turned this into something so much more than what it was. Again, though, this still had some great content but just wasn't written in a way to highlight it all as much as it could have.
Cupid is not who everyone thinks he is. He is sinister, evil, and doesn't give a damn. Instead of making people fall in love he punishes the unfaithful. With great detail, Jason Myers proves to have 'a way with words'. I am a splatterpunk reader as well and although this is a horror, it gave the beginnings of a splatterpunk vibe and I would love for this author to dive into giving splatterpunk a try if he hasn't already. This was my first read by Mr. Myers and he did NOT disappoint. Short read, about 45 pages, and hit every creepy factor one could hope for. Genuinely looking forward to reading more of this author.
I sort of prefer Myers' version of Cupid, it suits my aesthetic sensibilities better. Short, grim with a sprinkle of sad, perfect V-day read if you're not a romantic or if you're the broken hearted variety of romantic.
With the right amount of blood and dread, this fast little tale will jolt your perception of the single worst holiday on the calendar, all for the better.
Beautifully written story that will make you question who Cupid really is. Myers always adds just the right amount of bloodshed to his stories that makes it a great choice for any horror reader.
So we all have a preconceived idea of who and what Cupid is, right? Well, this is the story of the REAL Cupid, the side no one would ever dare to dream of….
After having served in the war, and all that, that entails, coming home to your wife and childhood sweetheart feels a bit mundane, and in this case, temptation gets the better of one man, again and again! Until, that is, he has to face up to the brutal consequences. Only his son is witness to the sinister proceedings that follow, proceedings that will leave him locked up and unable to speak of the horrors he witnessed!
This story was chilling, horrifying, atmospheric and haunting! It was a quick immersive read, that keeps hold of you until long after it ends! And in saying that, the only bad thing for me about this story, was that it did end! I would love to delve deeper into the world of Cupid and of the MC of this dark little tale!
A great portrayal on something that is an iconic image of love. Cherubs are meant to be so innocent and piercing hearts of those to fall in love. Myers has twisted the image and utilized it as revenge to those that break sacred vows. There are no cute cherubs or angels. It’s been replaced with a grotesque nightmare of a monster that brings karma. This short story packs a horrific punch and lesson to those that cheat. The narrative and uniqueness of the story behind Cupid was entertaining immediately from the first page.
"Forget everything the greeting card companies have taught you about Him." The truth is finally coming out about the wickedness that is Cupid. A wild story filled with terrors to make you want to skip the entire month of February.
So, what did I think of this horror story about Cupid? Well, it was pretty good. I like the way Mr. Myers describes things.
The story is about a guy who is reminiscing about the day he met Cupid, but Cupid is not the loving, angelic baby with a bow and heart shaped tipped arrows. No, Cupid is a demon among demons, taking out sinners!
I like the first-person narrative that this story has. It felt like I was listening to a really great creepypasta on the forums. And the narrator was great as well!
All around, I give Cupid a four-star rating. It’s an awesome short story that I highly recommend you read.
This little book is great. Valentine's Day is my least favorite holiday I actually despise it...so to say the spin Jason put on it was great, is an understatement.
In this story, you learn who Cupid really is and what he is sent to earth every year to do to the people who are unfaithful to their spouse...
It was a quick read, but packs all the information you need with just enough gore to get you through...buckle up, it's a wild little ride!
Ya'll, this is the perfect Valentine's Day short story! Go to Amazon and get this now. Here's my review of Cupid by Jason Myers.
This was a wonderfully scary twist to the Cupid legend. Jason Myers take on Cupid is genius! This story is for anyone that has ever been scorned or anyone that needs a harsh wake up call. I can't leave out the narrator. He was absolutely perfect and creepy!
One of my Valentine’s Day horror books of 2022. I won this last year in the Books of Horror Swap Group on Facebook! Nasty quick read that’s perfect for this sickeningly sweet holiday. Cupid will never be the same for me.
Turns out, Cupid isn't that cute little floaty kid with the bow and arrows with the stupid little hearts. Thank goodness! Toddler with a bow and arrow? Gunna shoot someone's eye out. How irresponsible.
I like this Cupid muchhhh better. He likes gore. I like gore. 👍 match made in heaven?
Well, that was fun!! Here is a perfect story for Valentine’s Day!! It’ll only take about an hour to read, so definitely give this one a go! Jason Myers put a lovely twist on this story. Recommended to be read in February, before Valentine’s Day, or on love day would be best.
I figured this story was going to get all crazy and dark, and it did. This may be a short 40 page story, but it gives just the right amount of blood and gore you would expect from a story like this.
Cupid is not the cute little angel we see pictures of or hear about. He doesn’t carry a bow with love arrows who shoots people in the back to make them fall in love. No, Cupid is a mean vengeful wickedness that seeks out the betrayers and deals in karma.
And I just want to add, with a name like Jason Myers writing a horror story about Cupid, you can’t go wrong!
*I'm not going to give you the 'what this book is about' blurb - you can read that elsewhere.
1. Is there a more perfect day to read about Cupid than Valentine's Day? Nope! I learned this year that Holiday Horror is a thing, and I freaking love it. 💘 2. Since I've started getting into Holiday Horror, I've thought of Satanic Santa and a Rabid Easter Bunny, but for some reason, I never thought of Cupid as anything other than the pudgy, cherubic, diapered being with a quiver full of heart arrows. Why? Well, because my imagination sucks and I rely on people like Jason to show me the way. 3. This one is really short, like 40 pages, so there's really no reason your Valentine's Day plans shouldn't include this read. Especially if you, like me, think this is a stupid Hallmark holiday; it's the perfect way to fight back. And if you like Valentine's Day? Well, it pairs well with chocolate 😉
Thank you Jason Meyers for the copy of this amazing tale on audible!!
I have never been a fan of V Day, not for bitter reasons but just because why show love on one day when it could be everyday. But now I have a reason to love it, I am going to listen to this every year on that day until well until I can't! To bring everyone's conception of such a obnoxious holiday to the horror world is epic! The details of each scene were vividly told in the most perfect ways. While showing the mentality of seeing the not so sweet, angelic version of Cupid. Listen or read this tale for sure if you want to know the true Cupid! A demonic praying on the lust and intentions of a wandering mind!
I really really liked this one. It was just long enough to keep me entertained on my lunch break. Perfect for someone who loves horror books but doesn't have time to read a long book. Definitely going to read more by this author.
Perfect read for Valentines day. Short and sweet with enough gore to keep my attention. Would have been cool to see a wife being the reason for the carnage, though. Not just husbands.
This is a quick little read and a very gruesome take on the Cupid we all know and love. Filled with carnage within its small amount of pages, Jason knows how to really ruin your love holiday ! Check him out
This is a quick short story of someone who has crossed paths with Cupid. This book made me feel so bad for the main character and what he went/going through. This would be a great read for Valentine's day.
Got a free code to listen to this one! This was a great short listen. Forget who you think Cupid is. This story tells you the horror that is Cupid. This story is told by a boy who survived the day Cupid came for his mom and dad. I enjoyed this one. Thank you Jason Myers for the great listen!
This dark take on Cupid turns the cherub creating love into a monster that punishes cheaters. While it is a short read at just over fifty pages, Myers managed to pack quite a story in those pages. Cupid is evil, brutal, and soaks the pages in gore, creating a fantastic tale.
Quick and fun twist to the usual cliché that is Valentine's Day! Love that now when I think of Cupid I'll see something much more badass than a lil chubby 👶.
A quick, fun little read about our favorite little romantic cherub. Oops, my bad. This is not that type of story. Cupid is a thing of f*cking nightmares!
