This volume contains the epic conclusion to the Lyrion’s Academy storyline, one of my all-time favorites from this series. The Knights stories have often revolved around the tension between just who’s running the game, the players or the gamemaster? But the Academy storyline takes this dynamic to new heights with some inspired gambits from both sides. It's one of those glorious stories where you're thinking, “Okay, no way are the creators going to top THAT!” But then they do. It would make an excellent standalone graphic novel except that it's hard to pinpoint just where it begins, because so much of the humor is cumulative. It builds on past storylines and characters, and even though Jolly and company are good about providing footnotes to jog the memory, it's a poor substitute for actually reading the stories referenced.

In the end, Knights of the Dinner Table is one of those comics where you just have to dive in and read for a bit. If you can mamanage to start at the beginning, so much the better, but it's worth jumping in wherever you can--I personally didn't start until around issue #14 or so, and it's only through the Bundle collections that I've been able to read the earlier storylines. The effect is cumulative, and once it clicks for you, you’ll be eagerly seeking out all you can get your hands on. Highly recommended!

Just when you think, that the going can’t get any crazier - it gets.

(Can’t really rate this bundle with a good conscious because my copy was unfortunately missing a dozen or so pages. But I did it anyway. Hoody hoo!)
