The Nail Needs Help is the latest in I Can Read Comics, an early reader line that familiarizes children with the world of graphic novel storytelling and encourages visual literacy in emerging readers.
Meet Nail and Hammer, two pals in this STEM-focused story by author-illustrator Sarah Lynne Reul. When Nail gets stuck, Hammer is ready to lend a helping hand. But will Hammer’s hard-headedness make things worse?
The Nail Needs Help is a Level Three I Can Read Comic, an engaging story for children starting to read on their own.
Sarah Lynne Reul is an author, illustrator and award-winning animator who likes science, tiny things and drawing on photos. Originally from Brooklyn, she now lives near Boston with her family.
After some years in science museum education, she was lured back to school by the magic of making drawings come to life. Armed with an MFA degree in 2D animation, Sarah Lynne now strives to pack the energy of animation into each illustration. She spends her workdays creating new books and talking with kids about the process during author visits throughout New England and beyond.
Her picture books and board books include: THE BREAKING NEWS, ALLIE ALL ALONG, PET THE PETS, FARM THE FARM, NERP!, and BUBBIE & RIVKA'S BEST-EVER CHALLAH (SO FAR!), coming this Fall from Abrams Books.
Lmao! This was cute. It’s not only a great introduction to comics for those becoming more independent readers, but it also is a great intro for those who are interested in learning more about tools. Definitely worth checking out.
I can confidently say that this is the funniest book about sentient tools I have ever read. The basic premise -- nail is stuck in wood and needs help getting out -- is made hilarious by clever dialogue and a little bit of irony. A graphic novel for early readers, the panels are clean and well-designed. An auspicious series opener.
An engaging introductory graphic novel for emerging readers. Which tool is the best to help Nail when he gets stuck? With humor, excellent illustrations, and tools (of course) Reul share a fun to read and funny story that is sure to make both children and adults smile.
A book for kids to learn about the functions of different tools in a tool box. Kids also learn about adaptability and being creative with solutions to solve a problem.
One of my favorite releases from 2024! This introductory graphic novel is equally appealing visually and in terms of its story. The distinct "voice" of each tool and use of humor is sure to engage young listeners/readers!
Includes a two-sided introductory page that introduces parents/caregivers to unique opportunities related to graphic novels (comics) and strategies for encouraging "visual literacy." The flip side features examples of common elements used in graphic novels (titled, "Cartooning Basics").
