Lake Spark Off-Season #1

Waiting to Score

Rate this book
Former hockey star Declan Dash loves to play the game, and the one with his friend’s little sister, Violet Spears? He plans to win…

Running into your brother’s billionaire ex-hockey-playing best friend at a special kind of party should have been a red flag. Pulling one another’s names from a bowl at said party was a coincidence. Having a wild night together that we said we’d forget was probably our mistake. Especially when Declan shows up weeks later as the new owner of the hockey team that practices in Lake Spark, and he has an offer for me.

Meet him every day in his hotel room for a week to enjoy a little fling while he passes through town.

Yep, I stupidly agree. But the man has a few talents, and I need to take a lunch break from my flower shop anyway. Except, our timeline gets extended and the game Declan plays doesn’t come with a rule book. The lines between us get blurry. My brother will go through the roof if he ever finds out that his friend laid a finger on me, but it’s my heart that feels fragile because I can’t figure out if we have a future or if I'm just a big game where he’s been waiting to score…

Declan and Violet bring the heat in this brother’s-best-friend and billionaire romance. Waiting to Score can be read as a complete standalone and is the first book in the Lake Spark Off-Season series which is a spin-off of the Lake Spark series. For lovers of small-town romance with a touch of hockey.

I cannot wait for more in this series!

***POTENTIAL SPOILERS***

Picture this- you're invited to a closed invite party, where you know you'll go home with a stranger for the night... but that stranger ends up being your brothers friend, mentee and prior hockey teammate... you've been off limits for as long as you've known him.

What starts as a one night stand turns into a one-week friends with benefits "agreement", but by the end of that week what you've started cannot be stopped.

Next thing you know your sweet other brother, who wants nothing more than to see you happy, is setting you up on a date with the local sheriff. Who shows up on said date, non other than your secret "friend"

“Waiting to Score” is the first book in Evey Lyon’s Lake Spark Off-Season series, which is a direct spinoff of her original Lake Spark series.

Declan Dash has never wanted to settle down because his attention has always been focused on hockey, and because he’s never met a woman who made him want to change his priorities.

But when he finally gets a chance with Violet Spears, his best friend’s little sister, he isn’t able to resist. Although she’s supposed to be off limits, he can’t seem to make himself stay away.

I adored Declan and Violet’s story! I love a good billionaire romance, and adding in the brother’s best friend trope just made it even better.

Declan and Violet had a lot of chemistry, it was obvious even when they were trying to keep their arrangement on the down low.

I loved how Declan, a man who swore he’d never settle down, ended up falling hopelessly in love with Violet.

He was also responsible for some really romantic moments in the book, which I thought were super swoony.

In my opinion, Violet was an extremely sweet, likable heroine, and I loved that she knew what she wanted in life and from a relationship, and that she wasn’t afraid to ask for it.

I also thought she had the patience of a saint, especially when it came to her brother Ford’s overprotective tendencies.

This was such a good read! I’d definitely recommend.

Declan Dash is a retired NHL hockey player and the new owner of the NHL Spinners which practice in Lake Spark.

Violet lives in Lake Spark and owns the local flower shop called The Flower Jar.

Declan is at a special kind of party where names are drawn from a bowl and he pulls out Violet Spears and they end up spending the night together. Wouldn't be a big deal but she is the little sister of his best friend who lives in Lake Spark. He has an offer for Violet which she agrees to. This agreement is for a week only while he is in town.

What happens at the end of the week when they both have enjoyed the time they've spent together and don't want it to end but Declan doesn't do relationships?

Oh and let's not forget they can't let her brother know they are spending time together either.

This is a new author for me and one I really enjoyed. Looking forward to reading Connor's story.

Another trip to Lake Sparks if this town was real I would be moving. I love everyone who ends up here. This is book 4 in the series and it follows Ford’s little sister Violet and his former hockey teammate Declan. One night changes the outcome of their relationship. The one week together will obviously not be enough I mean Declan is a hottie and gets what he wants. I felt for Violet and her pass. I enjoyed the back and forth between these two. The secrecy between the two of them and what was chef kiss to me was Connor blackmailing them 😂. I loved all of it and cant wait for the next one.

We are back in Lake Sparks for the first of the spin off series. This time following Fords little sister Violet & Declan.. his former teammate/best friend. Declan is the new owner of a Hockey team & moves them to practise in Lake Sparks.

The way these guys ‘meet’ or rather hit it off the first time was kinda like an adult version of 7minutes in heaven. They both went into that night with the understanding that Declan isnt looking for love though. He has a playboy reputation.

That first night develops into secret friends with benefits that both keep extending the time frame of! The chemistry & connection these two have was filthy and easy. They worked so well together. I found myself reading this with a huge grin on my face. This was so much fun, the sneaking around, the banter, “tie her up”. Declan is great at woo-ing. You cant help but fall for him. He was everything I expected and more. His character growth was amazing.

I really loved getting more from Connor in this (Violets nephew, Fords son) hes a little older niw and pushing limits & having fun. This book sets his up perfectly (his is next in the series) and left me wanting more..

5 Star Review of Waiting To Score (Lake Spark Off-Season # 1) by Evey Lyons

I was so excited when I heard that Evey Lyon had a new series releasing and if Waiting To Score is anything to go by, then she is off to a flying start.

From the first chapter I was drawn into the story that Ms. Lyon wove about former hockey star Declan Dash and the woman who has caught his eye Violet Spears. They know they should not cross the line, after all Declan is Violet’s brothers’ best friend and is off limits.

However, the heart wants who the heart wants and what starts off as a one-night stand, quickly morphs into so much more. Waiting to Score is a seriously steamy, entertaining story that ticked all the boxes for me. Cannot wait to see what the author has in store for this series.

I loved Violet and Declan! After spending an unforgettable night together, where they were paired together during an unconventional party, they are reunited in the town where Violet lives, Lake Spark. Declan just purchased a hockey team and wants to move their training to the small town rink that Violet’s brother runs (the two were former teammates). He’s going to be there for a week, so he propositions Violet to spend time with him while he’s there, no strings attached. But we all know, no strings often leads to many strings.
Both of these characters grew throughout the book. Declan’s feelings on relationships changed because of how he felt for Violet, while she learned that it was ok to ask for what she wanted. I loved how open and honest they were with each other, even if it led to hurt at times. The care that which Declan showed Violet throughout all parts of their relationship was so special, you could really feel how much he cherished her and didn’t want to hurt her. Violet was so understanding of Declan, and she never wanted to pressure him into anything.
I loved getting to see Ford and Brielle happy (from Worth the Wait), and their teenage son, Connor, had such a special bond with Violet that was so great to read. I’m so looking forward to Connor’s story in the next book!

Review: 4.5/5 ⭐️
Steam: 3.5/5 🔥

This book was HOT! Declan took a minute for me to like him because I thought he was a little pompous, but dayum he changed my mind. The way that he and Violet went toe to toe on everything and had amazing banter was * chefs kiss *.

He knew she was special and was going to prove it. Violet wanted to have some fun, and she sure as hell did with Declan. They showed each other their hearts and what it’s like to be supported and loved. I was here for it all!

I love these two. I love this series already and the side characters are great. I CAN NOT WAIT for the next book!!

This book wasn’t my favorite and I had a bit of a hard time getting through it. I just felt like the writing wasn’t the best. There seemed to be a lot of telling instead of showing. Also some of the lines were so cheesy like at the end when Declan was like “I thought the only love of my life was hockey until I met violet” like sooo cheesy. Also, they sleep together so early in the book and personally I prefer slow burn books. I did get more into it as the book went and I came to like their characters more but overall the writing was tough for me.

Universal / Amazon / Apple / Nook / Kobo / Google / Special Edition Paperback

Violet thinks her one night with Declan was one night. Then he shows up and asks her for an arrangement. The no feelings but lots of fun kind of arrangement. But Declan's her brother's best friend and not exactly known for being committed to relationships. All those things should mean she should restrain herself, but she doesn't want to. So, they can have fun, not develop feelings, AND keep it a secret from her brother. No problem, right?

Brother's best friend is always fun - all the forbidden deliciousness of it, the sneaking around and of course the developing feelings. When the commitment phobe Declan fell, he fell hard, and I was so here for it. Violet brought him to his knees and he loved it. Now I'm impatiently waiting for more of the Lake Spark crew to fall in love.

“What are we doing?”
… “Everything we never meant to.”

4 stars

This is such a fun read – a brother’s best friend, friends-with-benefits, small town sports romance that is sexy and sweet with just the right amount of emotion to bring the romance, and I really enjoyed this one!

This is the first book in the Lake Spark Off-Season series, a spin-off from the Lake Spark series, and though there is some character crossover, you can read this one as a standalone. For reference though, Violet is the younger sister of Ford, hero from Worth the Wait (Lake Spark, #3).

Declan Dash, ex-hockey player, now team owner, and well known playboy gets the surprise of his life when he rocks up to a sex party and finds his good friend’s younger sister, Violet present. Declan and Violet have shared a flirty attraction but haven’t really been in a position to act on it (also there’s the complication of her overprotective brother), but they’re both at the party to play, and when their names are pulled out of the bowl, they share a scorching night together.

When Declan rocks up in Violet’s small home town of Lake Spark for the summer to work with her brother’s hockey summer camp, he proposes that they have a no-strings arrangement while he’s in town to work each other out of their systems. Ha! We all know where this story is going!

This woman is sexual dynamite with a heart of gold. And I hate the fucking guy who will claim forever with her.
But right now, she is mine.

Oh the hotness! These two are absolutely sizzling together, and as they spend time together and actually get to know each other, it doesn’t take long for the lines to get blurry, and their no-strings arrangement is suddenly complicated by feelings. It’s way out of Declan’s wheelhouse, and not only do they have Ford to consider, but Declan has no intention of entering into a relationship, while Violet wants love, marriage and a family.

“Our lines…they’re blurry.”
“I agree…but this feels right.”

It’s a fun journey for them. They know they’re crossing all kinds of lines but they don’t pull back, they just go with it, and it ends up being one of those situations where they end up in a relationship without actually saying they’re in a relationship. Those are always fun! They have to work through feelings and expectations, and figure out what they want from each other, and though there is some drama along the way (as well as a protective big brother to deal with), it’s a gorgeous ride watching them find their way.

“It’s only you ... I’m not going to let you go.”

Declan is a gorgeous romantic hero, a bad boy with a heart of gold who falls and falls hard (those are the best kind!). And Violent is fabulous yet relatable – strong, smart and sensible, she knows what she wants, and though she ends up feeling way more than she ever planned to, she handles her emotions well. I loved watching these two come together and eventually find their HEA.

This is a great start to the series, and with a hint of things to come, I am excited to continue on.

4 stars.

**ARC REVIEW**
"In hockey, your mission is to protect the puck, never let it out of your sight. That's Violet in this moment..."

Waiting to Score is book #1 in the Lake Sparks Off-Season series by Evey Lyon. This was my first book by the author and I really enjoyed reading it!

My rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice: 🔥🔥

If you love these tropes, you will enjoy reading this book :)
✔️Hockey Romance
✔️Brother’s Best Friend
✔️Billionaire
✔️Small town

Violet Spears is a florist at "The Flower Jar" in Lake Sparks. She decides to do something out of her comfort zone and decides to have a night of fun at a sex party in Chicago. What she doesn't expect is to find her brother's best friend Declan Dash there.

Declan Dash is a retired hockey player who has just bought a hockey team "Chicago Spinners ". He is also looking at moving their training sessions to Lake Sparks. He is a billionaire playboy and it is usual for him to engage in activities at a sex party. When he spots Violet at the party he knows he should stay away as she is off-limit due to his best friend warning all hockey players away from his baby sister.

However, Declan also doesn't want Violet to go home with any one else so he gets his friend to help to ensure the last two names to be paired are theirs.

After a night of fun, Declan leave Vi with nothing but a note.

They do end by running into each other at Lake Sparks and they cannot seem to stay away from each other. Is this friends with benefits situation destined for more than just a physical relationship or will it all end badly? You will have to read to find out ;)

I loved this story and all the cute little moments. The origami melted my heart and the talking parrot!!! I could not stop laughing.

OMG GOLDEN SYRUP!!! I will never look at that the same again HAHA

Evey has written a beautiful love story that I could not put down! I enjoyed that it is a small town romance book as well!

I cannot wait for book #2 coming in a couple of months!

Thank you to Evey and Wordsmith Publicity for kindly sending me the arc to read and review. This review is my own honest opinion on the book :)

Waiting To Score – Lake Spark Off-Season #1 – Review

Author: Evey Lyon

Couple: Declan Dash & Violet Spears

Tropes: hockey romance, reformed playboy romance, best friend’s little sister, brother’s best friend, small town, found family

Review: A steamy small town romance that will put you in a holiday mood! Evey Lyon writes a wonderful romance between two people who find each other by accident and overcome overbearing family to earn their HEA. I loved Declan and Violet’s story and am excited to see them in future books within this series.

Violet is the younger sister to Declan’s best friend and former teammate. I loved how she is fiercely independent and successful on her own. The individuality her character has in this story is unique and Evey did a terrific job with not letting her sense of self be overshadowed by all the famous hockey players she knows. I loved how her story had themes of a previous crush but also focused on how she wanted to experience fun for herself. Violet’s character was the perfect mix of sensual and innocent that left you intrigued with how she would handle Declan.

Declan was a HAWT MMC. I loved how hard he fell for Violet. His reluctance to admit his feelings made me want to shake him but I also understood at the same time. I felt like his character was very well developed and I enjoyed how Violet pushed him to communicate more. I enjoyed how he was dominant and full of the alphahole vibes but also had a softer side for Violet. One thing I LOVED was how he was the one who ended up wanting to share is desire to tell her brother even though he knew it would backlash.

This book is full of spice. These two do not hold back on the steam or heat. I appreciated how Evey wrote them as two people who were inherently drawn to one another and found them to be perfect in this book. I liked how Violet stood up for her decisions and told her brother to accept her choice but also felt bad about how hard Declan took the rebuttal from her brother. This book has a huge theme of found family and I am excited for the next couple!

Rating: 4/5, Declan and Violet are HAWT.

Waiting to Score was my first book I've read by author Evey Lyon and let me just say it did not disappoint! This was such a fun and quick read for me and has me excited to read more of this Series!

Waiting to Score is the first book in the Lake Spark Off-Season Series that is a spin off to Evey Lyon's prior series called Lake Spark. This book follows some new characters as well as some from the prior series. I loved that I didn't have to have read the previous series to be able to follow this one and fall in love with it!

This series follows Violet, who is the sister of Ford from the original Lake Spark series and one of his prior teammate named Declan. At the beginning of the story you get a brief interaction to understand how they all connect to each other and then that turns into a accidental right place at the right time altercation for the two main characters. Declan has admired Violet from afar for most of the time he was playing hockey with Ford, and Violet has definitely had some thoughts about Declan in the past as well. One night Violet takes a little leap outside of her comfort zone and finds herself with a choice between letting herself explore things with a swoon worthy hockey player or stay away from someone who has always been off limits to her.

This was such a fun and easy read for me and I really enjoyed every second of it! Watching this relationship develop was great because it felt so different then most brother's best friend romances that I've read in the past. In this one they hadn't had many interactions, to my knowledge, prior to seeing each other at the party they attended. Where I feel like in most stories they have been well acquainted by the time we get to read their story. They learned so much about each other through out this book and Declan never wasted a moment to get to know Violet. He paid so much attention to the little things and cherished them and it showed in the story telling. There were so many moments that gave me butterflies and made me swoon over these pages! And the spice was muh *chefs kiss* the things people will do with maple syrup haha

Tropes in this book include:
Brother's best friend
Age gap
He falls first
Hockey Romance
Misunderstanding
HEA

I am so thankful to have gotten to read this book early and look forward to diving into more of Evey Lyon's work, starting with the original Lake Spark series. And can't wait for the next installment of this series!

My favorite quote: ”Aren’t paper flowers for forever?” Declan’s eyes stayed locked with mine. “That‘s the point.”

I love a next-gen addition to a series that brings characters we already know to the forefront (whether they’re siblings, children, etc.). We get a glimpse back at previous characters and see their growth as individuals as well as their families!

Violet and Declan are acquaintances who have, out respect for Ford, admired each other from afar. Violet has the stereotypical personality of wanting a man to settle down with, kids, and a small town life. Declan has never desired a relationship beyond fun and short-term. When Violet sets her mind on this approach to relationships, they are drawn together.

These two have incredible chemistry and nearly set the fire alarm off while I was reading — they’re HOT! Let’s just say that I will never look at maple syrup the same! From the get-go, they begin to break rules of a casual relationship without even realizing it. They develop something deeper through their talks, the banter, and all those little things (paper birds, coffee, etc.).

Declan feels a drive to stay connected to hockey and a big responsibility weighs on him for not stepping in with the family business. I admire how he remains firm in following his own dream for his career. And once he lets his heart have a little more input? WOW! He’s exactly the perfect match for Violet!

Violet is super sweet and not really cut out for the casual relationship thing, as much as she attempts to. But her and Declan find each other at precisely the right time and we see her blossom (much like the flowers in the shop she owns!). She has such a big heart and often carries her own familial weight that isn’t really hers to carry.

There is plenty of spice while you’re watching these two fall in love that you’ll be swooning in no time!

I received a complimentary ARC for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.

He knew the moment he pulled her name out of that dish that he shouldn't do it, she is after all forbidden, the little sister of his best friend. But Violet Spears is a beautiful and intriguing woman and she is standing before him with that slip of paper with his name on it and all the thoughts of where that may lead make it impossible to say no… he has to do it. So they indulge in one splendid night together, and when morning comes they go their separate ways. But little do they're just getting started...

Waiting to Score is a wonderfully penned forbidden romance that satisfies on all fronts. Declan and Violet bring joy, heat, romance, and all the feels the your heart can handle to the pages... it's the perfect escape! These two knew they were playing with fire when they decided to embark on their little secret rendezvous, telling themselves it was just a week of fun with no complications, but then it became just that, a complication they didn't know how to deal with.

If Violet's brother finds them out it's bound to end badly, not to mention things started to get messy because their hearts have started to get involved. Will they follow their hearts or let outside forces put an end to something that could be so beautiful?

I really enjoyed this newest offering from Ms. Lyon, it was one of those stories that you could just lose yourself in for a little while, it kept me well entertained from start to finish. Highly recommend you meet these two, their story will put a nice little squeeze on your heart... and make you blush a time or two!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

“Life’s always been a game to me. Turns out, the championship game that I’ve been after is the one that I have with you…”

Over the years, hockey player Declan Dash had stayed away from Violet Spears out of respect for his best friend Ford. Discovering Violet at his friend’s hook-up party changed the score. He thought one night would scratch the itch and he could move on, but it didn’t work because he couldn’t seem to get her out of his mind. After retiring and purchasing a hockey team, Declan moved the team’s practices to Lake Spark. He wants to continue their fling, but he has no intentions of settling down.
Violet Spears was a relationship type and didn’t do one-nighters but gave in to her friend one night and went to a party. Running into Declan at the party was an opportunity to have a night with the man she had crushed on. Only that one night turned into more when he suddenly showed up in Lake Spark for the off-season. Will she settle for the no-strings attachment relationship? Or will she come to realize she deserves and wants a commitment?
Waiting to Score is the first book in the new Lake Spark Off-Season series by Evey Lyon. This was a new-to-me author and I’m so glad I had the chance to read one of her books. The book was easy to read and entertaining. I always like small-town romances and the small town of Lake Spark certainly had a lot of charm. I enjoyed the book and hope to read more by the author in the future.

Audio/eBook:
Waiting to Score is retired hockey player now team owner Declan and Lake Spark’s local florist Violet’s wonderful journey. This is book one in the new Lake Spark Off Season Series and if this book is anything to go by Ms Lyon’s will certainly have another hit series on her hands.
Violet should be off limits because she is the sister of Declan’s best friend but when these two met they had no idea she was the sister of his best friend and that’s when their attraction and scorching hot chemistry began. If her brother ever finds out how they met, life will be very different for both of them because he believes his younger sister is still sweet and innocent who shouldn’t be mixing with players…..
Samantha Summers and Erik Bloomquist did a wonderful job bringing the characters and their story to life. They were spot on with the humour and the love and a pleasure to listen too.
We all know we can’t always stop our hearts wanting what they want and it’s not long before these friends or at times enemies with benefits find themselves wanting more but how will the family react……
I loved everything about this book, I fell hard and fast for Declan, Violet is the gal I would love in my corner, the chemistry is sizzling, the banter is witty and there are plenty of laugh out loud moments normally at the expense of Violet’s very funny teenage nephew Connor. This is a book with all the feels but what takes it to another level is small town living and a very funny teenager but let’s not forget this is a well written book that captivated me from start to finish.

A new book from a new series by Ms. Lyon and it is one that you do not want to miss. Waiting to Score is the first book in the Lake Spark Off-Season that will have you wanting to move to Spark Lake and find yourself a pro hockey player turned owner to keep. Although the books from her Spark Lake series are interconnected and there is crossover with characters, all the books, including this one, can be read as a standalone. While reading Waiting to Score, I found myself laughing, loving the banter that went back and forth as well as getting lost in the chemistry that they had.

Ms. Lyon gives us two people who are attracted to one another but because of how they know one another, have never crossed the line. Well, that is until they happened to be at the same party, and it was not just like any other party, names and a fishbowl were involved. Declan, a retired hockey player, now the team's owner, and Violet, Declan's former teammate's little sister, spend one night together but they just cannot stop. He doesn't want to settle down and Violet just wants to have some fun and let loose, but can they keep it casual? Will their one week of hot and steamy fun times be all that they will agree on? Declan offers up a proposal and Violet jumps on the ice for some hat tricks.
This story was such a joy to read and I was unable to put it down. I cannot wait for the next installment in this series.

WAITING TO SCORE By Evey Lyon

Former hockey star Declan Dash loves to play the game, and the one with his friend’s little sister, Violet Spears? He plans to win… Running into your brother’s billionaire ex-hockey-playing best friend at a special kind of party should have been a red flag.

😊What i liked -

✔ Sports/Brother,s Best Friend/Billionaire/Small Town/Friends With Benefits.

✔ I loved their second meet which in turn turned into quite a few meets.

✔ I loved the sneaking around that they managed to do in a small town.

✔ I Loved the annoying to the core nephew Connor too. (too cocky)

✔ I Loved the birdy, the chemistry and the banter.

Так, починаємо наш хокейний марафон.
Перша #книга - Waiting to Score від Evey Lyon

5 Stars
2.5 Chili Peppers

Tropes:
Small Town Romance
Best Friend’s Sister
Hockey Romance
Billionaire
Secret Romance

Dual POV:

"Call you my good girl when we both know that you're anything but."

I have read the entire Lake Spark series, and let me tell you, this one did not disappoint! I have been waiting for this book since I finished Worth the Wait. I promise you, this one is definitely worth the wait!

"You're trouble.
The best-kept secrets usually are."

I really like Violet, I liked that she owned a flower shop and that she was afraid of birds. But yet takes care of Nugget, who has a weird and surprising vocabulary lol! The scene where she "murders" the flowers made me laugh out loud. Mr. Declan Dash is top-tier book boyfriend material. The way he cares for those around him, and his dirty mouth is the perfect combination.

"Oh no, he said baby. The female population's weakness."

I loved Violet and Declan together, they were seriously so cute. I also loved that we got a glimpse at some of the other characters from previous books. Honestly, I think Connor is my favorite. He was so sarcastic and didn't hold anything back. The end when he's in the car with Violet had tears rolling down my face. I cannot wait for his book!!

Thank you to Evey Lyon and WordSmith Publicity for this ARC

Evey Lyon is back with a new series: Lake Sparks Off-season, a spin-off from her previous Lake Spark series. All books in both series are interconnected standalones, so each story stands on its own, but the same setting is the same, and some characters will reappear.
The first book in the Lake Sparks Off-season series is Waiting to Score. This story is written in dual POV and contains tropes like small-town romance, brother's friend, hockey, acquaintances-to-lovers, one-night stand, and billionaire romance.
I loved Violet! I had to; just like me, she fears birds (Watch out for the talking parrot!!) and is also a strong, independent woman.
Retired NHL star Declan is book boyfriend material! He is everything a woman wants in a man without even realising it.
I loved Violet and Declan together; they had great chemistry and funny banter. They both have trust- and commitment issues, that's why they think getting their fill of each other during a one-week tryst will be enough.

This book was easy to read and very entertaining; emotions, humor and steam are well balanced. Evey Lyon's books always make me smile and leave me feeling good, and Waiting To Score did just that—a recommender for lovers of sports, brother's friend, billionaire and small tropes romance.

I received an ARC but am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book, provided by WordSmith PR. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This sweet, steamy story kicks off a side series to the Lake Spark series. I got in that series late with Ford and Brielle's story, and THIS is the story of Ford's sister and his best friend - oops! You know, that age old trope where the brother is so protective of his younger sister, he loses friendships over it? Kinda annoying, but I guess big brothers are like that.

Meeting at a party, Declan and Violet have a history they both thought was behind them. But seeing each other in Lake Spark brought everything back. Dec invites Vi to, basically, spend a week with him as he's back in Lake Spark. No strings attached, just a week-long fling. But neither of them want it to be over after a week, right?

The back and forth in both of their heads was so angsty, and a few times I think I growled impatiently waiting for them to realize no matter what they would do, they would have to tell Ford and just be together. Declan was so sweet to Violet without even realizing he was in the boyfriend zone. The spicy scenes were fun, the banter top notch, and oh my gosh, I can't WAIT for the next installment of this series!

Waiting to Score is book one in the Lake Spark Off Season series and what a way to kick off a new series. Declan may be retired as a player, but becoming the owner will be a new type of play for him. He may be a Dash, but he sure isn't syrupy sweet (well okay for Violet he is, whether he liked to see that or not). Though I will say Violet one upped him on this (leaving it at that). Violet may be the off limits sister, but no one ever said she was a goody two shoes all the time. If only her brother knew how they really met! hahaSeeing as I am an IL gal, I would love to know what town is most related to this small town a few hours away, curious minds want to know. Lake Spark is the happening place for small town living and where the retired sports players are going. Moving the training facility was a smart move. I will say while Violet was awesome with the Flower Shop, Declan's version was funnier. What's even funnier is Connor, her nephew! He is Waiting to Score some gray hair on his parents, so his story will be a good one, cause he may be a hockey player, but he is living up to player reputation that's for sure.

“But only you get paper flowers” - *rubs eyes with heel of hand and sighs*

This was absolutely what I needed for some rainy days! The small town, hockey playing billionaire brothers friend, a kickass fmc -what do you want more? It was everything and more, I genuinely really enjoyed this!

I absolutely adored Violet and her little flower shop! She is such a girlboss and sweetheart I can’t cope!

Declan - uhhhh I swear this man. He had me on the edge of my seat because I wasn’t really sure if I should love or hate him but I absolutely adored him towards the end. He really redeemed himself for some of his behavior! I don’t care what y’all say but they are soulmates in every single lifetime! They are a match made in heaven!

I wasn’t really looking forward to the epilogues (yes there are two) but they didn’t disappoint because we really got to see what their relationship is like 6 years after the original story and yup it didn’t miss!! Also why am I already counting down the days until ‘Waiting to Win’ releases because the suspense after reading that last epilogue????? Gurl no I cannot handle!!

“Life’s always been a game to me. Turns out, the championship game that I’ve been after is the one that I have with you. I always win, which means I’ve been waiting to score, with you and the life we can have.”

Violet and Declan's story was so steamy and sweet. I loved the way that their story began and how their relationship developed. I wasn't sure how I felt about Declan at first because Violet was so sweet and I felt like he was leading her on, but I quickly fell in love with the sweet side of him. By the end I was head over heels. Violet's character was so sweet and her dedication to her loved ones was fantastic. Violet and Declan's chemistry was so well written. I enjoyed their relationship as well as each of their relationships with Ford and the secondary characters.

I really enjoyed this story and was hooked from the beginning. I have not read the Lake Spark series and am definitely going to read them as I loved this book. There are references to previous characters. While it wasn't needed to know who they were in this book, it is nice to see the continuation of characters.

The story ended with a huge cliffhanger to set up book two and I cannot wait!! Thank you to Wordsmith Publicity and Evey Lyons for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Violet is stepping out of her comfort zone and going to a party at Brett’s with her friend Charlotte. Who she doesn’t expect to see is Declan, her brothers best friend. So what are the chances they’ll end up together? Well, it’s very possible.
I do love a small town romance story, brothers best friend and sports added in and it’s heaven sent!
Declan is known for his ways with the ladies, Violet isn’t at all shrinking either so when they get together for a night, sparks fly in Lake Sparks. But Declan didn’t bargain on how being with Violet is such a great feeling.
But they want different things in life…..or do they?
I like both these characters, I also enjoy how Brielle and Ford play a large part in the book and reminds me of the other Lake Spark characters from the previous book.
Violet throws Declan off his whole outlook on life, she’s such a positive ray of sunshine and is my favourite character in this book.
Excited to read Connor and Harley’s story in the next book. The end of this book made me sit up and gawp!
Brilliant read and highly recommend it and the whole Lake Spark series.

Waiting to Score #1 in Lake Spark Off-Season

I read this book so quickly! It’s the first one I’ve read by Evey Lyon and I loved it.

Both MCs were confident in who they are and I found that refreshing that they also shared their vulnerabilities with each other.

4.5⭐️
2.5🌶️

Tropes

Brothers best friend
Hockey romance
Billionaire
Small town
Delicious meet cute
Secret romance
He falls first

Declan is the cocky, just retired hockey player who has just bought a hockey team and Violet is his best friend little sister, who owns a cute flower shop. They have a delicious meet cute which leads to a hot night together with an NDA so it’s guilt free since they can’t talk about it!

Except now Declan is struggling to keep Violet out of his thoughts and so decides to make her an offer while he is in town for the week. Violet is recovering from her previous relationship and is looking for fun. Except there isn’t much in the sleepy town she moved to, to be closer to her brother and his family.

Can she resist Declan? Should she resist him? Em…NO!

I highly recommend reading this book, I’m so looking forward to book two!
