When the narcissistic, Hector Chambers, takes drastic action in deterring his daughter from marrying, Winston Moore, whom he considers to be beneath his family’s social class, it marks the beginning of a barrage of enduring and tragic repercussions.
Twenty-three years later, in eighteen-sixty and fourteen months after the sudden and unexpected death of her husband, Imogen Moore finds herself overburdened with responsibilities and financial difficulties. Nothing could have prepared Katie Moore for her mother's shocking and devastating revelation, which leaves her with no alternative but to accept a hastily arranged marriage.
It soon becomes apparent that Soho’s notorious, John Ellis, is not the husband she’d been expecting and his two teenage daughters, whom she’d hoped to nurture and take into her confidence, make it obvious from the first day of her marriage that they have no intention of allowing Katie into their hearts or making her feel that she has any authority in their father's house.
Left feeling alone and abandoned, Katie is suddenly aware that she knows very little about the truth of her lineage.
Aspects of John Ellis's past soon come to light and Katie is approached by an impoverished man from the East End, claiming that his sister’s life is now in great danger because the child she is about to deliver belongs to John Ellis. The revelation leaves Katie feeling beholden to dealing with the repercussions of her husband's shady past.
With her life becoming more of a struggle with every passing day, an unexpected and catastrophic turn of events shakes the lives of everyone in the Ellis household.
Even in the darkest of circumstances, when infinite love and abiding family ties are constantly tested, the bonds which tie remain enduring.
Lilly Adam, wife, mother, grandmother and author, has lived in Oxfordshire for nearly forty years. She was born in London and also resided in parts of Surrey and Sussex. Her passion for writing was put on hold while she was busy raising her large family. Lilly Adam has a keen interest in history, especially the Victorian era; she also loves to write poetry. Her debut novel, May of Ashley Green was published in early 2017, and she has since written sixteen more; Stella, Poppy Woods, The Whipple Girl, Rose, DaisyGrey, Beneath the Apple Blossom Tree, Faye, Secrets of the Gatehouse and her latest novel, Searching for Eleanor (Book One) with the concluding sequel, Loving August due for release on 20th August 2021.
Lilly Adam has written a beautiful love story about family and how we should cherish it. Katie's story delves into the heartbreak of loss when live is true and the selfishness when it is false. It shows us that family is more than blood. A pure heart will always hold close those that are worthy. I was delighted by Katie's story and her family. This was a feel good book. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a Sweet endearing story.
