Derridean poststructuralism may celebrate the free play of signification and the active interpretation that eagerly exploits the unlimited possibilities of texts. However, some 400 years earlier, the Elizabethan regime understandably repudiated such interpretive free play to insist on the manifest univocality of truth.

Features a compelling defence of the new historicist movement. I LOVE THEORY.
