Breakout suspense author Addie Ellis spins a striking tale in Hunted in the Mountains full to the brim with murder, mayhem and mystery. 4.5 stars
Ellis has readers guessing and gasping as they track with characters former SEAL Troy Walker and medical student turned baker Julia Fay. They are engaging and believable in their roles, but it's young, traumatized Jake who all but steals the show. He's witnessed a murder and is on the run pulling Julia and Troy into the fray.
Ellis has penned an excellent story with twist and turns that will have readers turning pages at warp speed trying to figure out who the ringleader is in this diabolical plot. The action is nonstop to the point readers will be trying to catch their breath in keeping up with the trio's wild race to outrun those determined to silence them.
The author pulls no bunches and uses every weapon in her writing arsenal to bring this story to life. I applaud her debut and look forward to her next offering. I appreciate a copy of Hunted in the Mountains being made available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.
Hunted in the Mountains by Addie Ellis was full of nonstop action, suspenseful moments, great characters, and a really good storyline. I was literally turning the pages as fast as I could! I really enjoyed everything about this story! I can’t believe it’s a debut!
This story was so good and so different. I loved the plot and the characters! Julia was such a likable character. She has a heart of gold and I loved how she selflessly helped Jake when he needed her. I absolutely loved Troy! He’s a former Navy Seal, I feel like I could just stop right there (lol), who is also selfless and put his life on the line to help both Jake and Julia. I loved the “on the run” trope and trying to figure out just what was going on and who was good and who was bad kept me on my toes the entire story!
I highly recommend Hunted in the Mountains and I cannot wait to read whatever Addie Ellis writes next! 5 stars!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. The faith thread is light.
This is one of the BEST debuts I have ever read! The story of this one had me guessing and most my guesses were wrong. That almost never happens. A truly fantastic read!
HUNTED IN THE MOUNTAINS by Addie Ellis is the exceptional story of former Navy SEAL Troy Walker and reclusive, but talented baker Julia Fay as their paths cross while trying to help Jake, a young boy on the run after his father was killed, his mom was shot and he’s terrified of the police.
Julia Fay’s upbringing was far from the idyllic childhood portrayed to the public. With an abusive father, a mother that turned a blind eye and both who seemed to change into a screaming madman like someone flipped a switch, had left Julia untrusting, questioning her choices and fearful of the dark of night. As an adult, it also left her determined to not be their puppet doing as they commanded any longer. Cutting ties, she’s been making it on her own doing what she loves – baking. Imagine her surprise and hair standing on end when on one of her sleepless nights in the still dark, early morning hours to find a young boy, hurt and fearful, at her back door begging for help. Knowing how he must feel, she’s immediately drawn to him and determined to do all within her power to keep him safe. Is it possible that helping him, might help her to heal?
Troy Walker entered the Navy after the death of his dear mother. As with most things in Troy’s life, once he made a decision on something, he was the best he could be at it throwing all he had into it. Advancing in the Navy and becoming a SEAL was a prime example. He was an extremely good SEAL. The problem was that after so many years of seeing the evil in the world and determined to see some good out there, he left the SEALS and settled down in Bluerock, Pennsylvania – a quaint little town with a less than 2,500 population. Still on guard while trying to figure out where he fit in the scheme of things had him pretty much a loner. While out on his early morning run, he saw a woman and a young boy running as if trying to escape some danger. The look in the woman’s eyes was pure fear. Seeing the men after them, he knew he had to help them without realizing that this wasn’t a here I’ll help you, you’re welcome, goodbye situation. However, it wasn’t long before he was full in when it came to defending them both, trying to find out what was going on and to get answers to the authorities to secure their safety. Along the way, is it possible he finds what’s been missing in his own life?
When it’s evident that one or more officers on the force is a “dirty” cop, who can they really trust? Can sneaking Jack in to see his mother, give them more clues to go on or bring on more danger? How can they survive multiple attacks? Will Julia find out she’s stronger than she thought she was? When events have them needing to move slower, will being smarter and prepared make up for it? Somewhere along the way, can the need to help and defend, turn into something more? Is it even possible that feelings might be mutual? How much misery, injury and horrible memories should a ten-year-old boy have to endure? Can two adults with limited resources keep him safe with so many that seem determined to eliminate both Jake and Julia? Having been deceived by so many, how will they know who they can really trust?
HUNTED IN THE MOUNTAINS is the adrenaline pumping, suspenseful story that will immediately grab you from the very beginning. It will take you on a roller coaster ride of many twists and turns as you quickly turn pages. You’ll follow Troy and Julia as they try to help and protect Jake while being chased, wrestled, and shot at while trying to stay alive and one step ahead of those determined to kill them. Along the way they learn a bit more about each other, including how to trust one another. Addie Ellis wrote a story of earned trust, deep friendships (proving length of friendship doesn’t equal a meaningful one), being honest, overcoming past events, standing up for what is right, never giving up and sweet romance while weaving it with a wonderful thread of faith about leaning on God in times of trouble and knowing he’s always with us - just a prayer away. HUNTED IN THE MOUNTAINS is most definitely a FIVE STAR book and I highly recommend it to everyone. Warning – once you start reading, you won’t be able to put this book down. I’m evidence of this since I read this amazing can’t put it down book in one sitting. Love finding new authors and Addie Ellis not only amazed me with this fabulous book, but now I will be on the lookout for more of her books as they are released. Can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
I receive a copy of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own. #huntedinthemountains #addieellis #loveinspiredsuspense #romanticsuspense #cleanread #mustread
Hunted in the Mountains by Addie Ellis is a new to me author. I really enjoyed reading about Julia Fay and young Jake running in the woods and running into former Navy Seal Troy Walker as two men chase them. Julia couldn't sleep one night when she saw someone enter her yard. It was a young boy running for his life. Soon men come looking for him and they take off through the woods where they are attacked by two men. Troy was taking an early run and sees what is happening. He subdues their attackers and Jake insist that the police are the bad guys and can't be trusted. They all three go on the run together trying to figure out who they can trust and protect Jake from being killed. Will they survive to find out who is behind all of this or will it be the last run of their lives. I was up all night reading this one. It was definitely a page-turner as you go along with the three of them. Never knowing who they can trust to protect them. It was rollercoaster suspense for most of the book. These characters could never catch a break or a breath before the enemy was right behind them. Never letting up until the last few pages. There was an epilogue and it made me so happy. Always such a great ending to a book. I love knowing what happens to these characters that you've gotten to know and love. I'll definitely be looking for more books by Addie Ellis. She really knows how to get your heart racing and blood pumping. I was given a copy, but all opinions are my very own.
I love discovering new-to-me authors, and I’ve found a gem in Addie Ellis. Her debut Love Inspired Suspense, Hunted in the Mountains, is a page turner that will have you reading long into the night. Julia Fay is fairly new to town, a baker who supplies pastries to local shops. One day, the silence of an early morning is shattered when a frightened and frantic young boy arrives at her door. This sets off a chain of events that turn Julia’s world around, driving her to protect young Jake from those hunting him. Troy Walker hasn’t been in town that long, either. A former Navy Seal, he’s come to this small town to live quietly and peacefully, away from all the intense action he’s seen and been a part of. But this morning, he finds himself sprinting toward the scream piercing the air during his morning run. Troy didn’t plan to use his Seal skills any time soon again, if ever, but this woman and child he’s come upon need his help. Now they team up, trying to outrun and outwit whoever is after them, never knowing who they can really trust. Thrown into this intense, stressful situation brings them close, though both hold back. Can the Lord bring a sense of peace and calmness back to Troy’s heart? Can He show Julia that allowing herself to trust people - the right people - can bring her a joy like she’s never known? Oh my, you need to find out! Plus it has my favorite, an epilogue! I’m so glad I bought this book. Here’s hoping to more from this author!
Phew! This one is an edge-of-your-seat nail-biter for sure! Addie Ellis sets the tone of the book from the very first sentence: "There was always something about the darkness of the night that left Julia Fay feeling adrift." Cue the shiver of suspense-y delight creeping up my spine and I was committed for the long haul.
Fast-paced. Adrenaline surging. Relentless pursuit. All the the elements of a high-octane read that kept me riveted. And somehow, in the midst of all that, the author manages to flesh out some engaging characters. Easy to relate to and empathize with. And the romance, while a bit rushed, is still believable. There's sense or urgency that mirrors the suspense and made this an unputdownable read. Devoured it in one sitting.
I’m a sucker for military stories. This book has Troy, an ex Navy Seal as one of the main characters. He steps in to help when he sees a woman and child trying to escape killers. This book was well written, and had several twists and turns. I liked the book, and look forward to reading other suspense novels by this author.
I absolutely love this exciting, heart stopping, roller coaster of a ride in suspense!! When a scared little boy shows up at Julia Faye's home, they are forced to take refuge in the woods. Their only hope in outsmarting the bad guys is former Navy Seal Troy Walker to help them. I couldn't put this story down!! A must read!!
I love the story of Julia, Troy and Jake. This is a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. What would you do if you were in your kitchen in the middle of the night and see a boy come through the shrubs looking around? The boy was afraid to knock on her door. Julia opened the door. This story will keep you guessing all the way to the end.
I really enjoyed this book. It has strong characters and a great story. It kept me turning the pages to see what happened next. I highly recommend this book if you like romantic suspense.
Great book about a child comes to Julia’s house in the middle of the night frightened so bad he can’t talk. She sees men with guns chasing him. And decides to guard him with her life.
Who falls in love in two days, and what boy puts all his trust in a random man and women. Everything was rushed I guessed the plot twist. No thank you.
Wonderful characters and great storyline! Good mystery. Thought I had it figured out, but only partially. Love having God centered in the story. Thank you.
