This book captures well how both frightening and beautiful a call to the priesthood is. It is lifelong and requires the whole of a person. You have to be willing to die - because it is not a career - it is life. The priesthood is Christ, and it demands a willingness to suffer for one’s people and for the world.

I also found it interesting to learn that the strong inner sense of being “called” to the priesthood is a relatively recent emphasis. In the early Church, much greater weight was placed on the corporate affirmation of a call by the Christian community.

A great introductory book for those considering ordination in the Anglican Church of Australia. Bishop Brad writes with an approachable and informative framework for the reader to help think further through these questions.
