Rate this book
This story is different ¿ ¿ from other stories of ships and the sea set in the early nineteenth century - stories which encompass the exploits of the King¿s Navy against Napoleonic France. Set in 1812 at the start of the American war of Independence this is the story of the Retribution, an English privateer, that transgresses the rules of war, and whose Mate, Jake Flaxman, is torn between his love for two passionate women. It is the story of lust, rape and murder set amidst the violence of the sea and the brutal people who chose to sail upon it. Finally, it is the story of the Retribution¿s young commander, Silas Abson, whose dark secret leads us to a violent and horrifying climax.
