I think that in heaven my mission will be to draw souls by helping them go out of themselves to cling to God by a wholly simple and loving movement, and to keep them in this great silence within that will allow God to communicate himself to them and transform them into Himself. This was a gift from my GRs friend, April, which I read this Lent. It was like taking the 40 days + Triduum journey with fellow Carmelite, Elizabeth of the Trinity, who I knew very little about. Elizabeth is a gentle, yet enthusiastic guide. She encourages with her rock-solid faith and great love for the Holy Trinity. She frequently referred to our mission as Carmelites: to be assist Jesus, to be another humanity for Him in which He can perpetuate His life of reparation, sacrifice, praise and adoration (of the Father). She reminded me to pray frequently to not squander the graces Jesus lavishes on us!
Each day provided the Gospel reading, a selection from her writings and a reflection. Sundays included all the three Gospels. Obviously, this book does not reflect that she is now a saint, and the Appendices which refer to various dates for specific years have passed, but these minor deficiencies do not take away from the book's overall value and could easily be corrected with an updated issue. 4.5 stars.
It took patience and perseverance for me to read this book, so I guess that was a good Lenten challenge for me. I thought I would like reading Elizabeth's words very much but she was on a different wave-length that I could never quite get to. I appreciate her writings but they just didn't speak to me like I had anticipated. Sister Vilma Seelaus's reflections were helpful but I was distracted by the fact that they seemed to lack proofreading before going to press which is hard to believe but in many cases quite true! Good to read the history of the Carmelites - brief but very informative .
