After the murder of her sister, Ida Tumarkin gains custody of her sister's son, Moses, and falls in love with art dealer Max Frost, but problems ensue when Max's controlling behavior surfaces and she finds out that he is Moses's father. Reprint.
The book insinuated things without really explaining them, and it drove me nuts. There often seemed to be conflict without basis, and people said the most cryptic remarks. This is why I have it at a 2. But I did like how even though Max could have been portrayed as coldly calculating, he was really human, and really did have feelings for Ida, though his motives were ambigious. But why did Shoe have to be such a big mystery? Why was Emily so faithful? What happened to Emily that Ida's painting "saved her life?" What was going on with Max's fiance while he carried on with Shoe and then Ida? Too many questions to be satisfied with it.

This is a great sophomoric effort by a dear friend of mine, Karen Mockler. She is currently living in Tuscon, AZ hard at work on future novels. She is a brilliant woman, and this novel is a brilliant and quiet love story.. when i think back on it, i am left with a special ethereal feeling- one that tells me that i was temporarily allowed special access to a very secret place. loved it and i recommend it on a new autumn day. it is lovely!
