After witnessing several murders, Natalie Pearson narrowly dodges death but knows the killer is still out there—searching for her. And even her sister’s remote cabin in the Smoky Mountains can’t keep her safe. After fleeing into the woods, she runs into former detective Andrew Moore and his K-9. Trusting Andrew is Natalie’s only chance for survival, but together they must outwit a relentless villain…before they become his final victims.
Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.
Oh, the wonderful irony of naming a floofy Newfoundland dog Rambo. 🙂 This breed is known for their goofy adoration and laid back disposition. Mind you, they are also fiercely loyal and protective and Rambo definitely has heroic moments in this gripping romantic suspense. K-9 Search and Rescue may be his job but taking down criminals is his passion. Bwahaha — he has a wonderful save-the-day moment towards the end of the story that had me alternately cheering and laughing. Atta boy, Rambo!
Oh, and yes, there were humans in this story as well. Andrew is reassessing life choices in his grandparent’s Tennessee cabin when Natalie runs into him. And then, well, let’s just say his dog isn’t the only one possessing an uber protective gene.
Whew! High-stakes suspense all the way! And there is so much going on it’s hard to figure out what might be connected to Natalie’s dilemma and what might not. And the whole stalker vibe brings an extra urgency to the situation.
Light romance and faith threads added to my overall enjoyment. This is very much a strangers to friends to ‘hey, there might be something here, let’s explore that when all this is over’ kind of love story, which I really appreciated.
I listened to the audible edition (so thankful that Love Inspired Suspense is making more books available in this format!) Patricia Santomasso did a great job making these characters, and the tense situations they find themselves in, feel so breathtakingly real!
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Lethal Mountain Pursuit. This is a K-9 Search & Rescue Novel. I always enjoy Christy's books and movies so I was glad to get this one in the mail. It's well-written, action-packed, and full of intrigue. I know you are going to love it.
Natalie Pearson had come to her sister's little cabin in the Smokey Mountains to hide from a killer. She had witnessed the killing, been attacked by the killer's dog, and left for dead.. She woke up to the sound of someone trying to break in to the cabin. She crept in to warn her sister but she wasn't there. She snuck out of the cabin and ran. The killer had found her.
Former detective Andrew Moore and his K-9 were out taking a nighttime walk. It was the middle of the night, his dog had been barking so he had given up on trying to sleep. He heard a man yelling. It certainly one of the women from the other cabin in these woods.. He went to investigate. The woman was in trouble.
An intense journey to keep Natalie safe and find her sister while staying ahead of a cold blooded killer. God has a plan for these two, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you, a good plan for peace and not for destruction. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life, even in this time of political turmoil.
Natalie is sleeping in her sister's cabin when a noise awakens her. She runs out the back as someone is trying to get in the front. Andrew can't sleep and takes his search and rescue dog Rambo out for a walk where Natalie literally runs into him. From that moment on, something always seemed to be happening. Her sister never comes home and someone keeps trying to kill her. Can Andrew help to keep her safe and figure out what is going on, or will they both pay the price?
The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain with an action and character oriented storyline that has no steam. The characters are vibrant and engaging, especially Rambo. The Christian values are woven into the story without being preachy. This is an exciting addition to the K-9 Search and Rescue series. Each one is a stand-alone story, but all of them are excellent reads. Enjoy!
Natalie Pearson walks in on the end of a murder of a dinner party that she was supposed to be at. The attacker is still there and gets her too, but she doesn't die. She is now on the run still years later trying to hide from whoever her attacker was. As she is running she stumbles into Andrew Moore and his K-9 in the mountains. He helps her escape her attacker but now he is after them both! What will they do? what is going on? Will they figure it out?
This was the first book I've read by Christy Barritt and my first suspense book. But the way the Christy made the storyline and characters come to life really pulled me in and I didn't want to put it down. Not going to lie, I was so engrossed in the book that at one point my yard decor made a noise and I jumped! This was the perfect introduction to suspense as it had enough suspense in it to keep me wanting to know what happened and the outcome but not enough to completely scare me away. I can't wait to read more of her books!
“Lethal Mountain Pursuit” by Christy Barritt is part of the multi-author K-9 Search and Rescue series.
After a traumatic experience, Natalie Pearson escapes to the mountains to stay with her sister. When the killer finds Natalie, she escapes, running (literally) into Andrew Moore, a detective who is seeking solace at his family’s cabin. Now, it’s up to Andrew and his dog, Rambo, to keep Natalie safe.
Ms. Barritt pens a suspense with unexpected twists and a villain who won’t give up.
I have read most of Christy Barritt’s books. This one is just as great as all the others. I love K9 officers, they always get their man! K9’s and their handlers are always tracking, whether it’s to find a criminal, kidnapped person, missing child, person with cognitive impairment or the Elderly. They are and added bonus to any Police Department!
I loved this tale of romance and suspense. I loved getting to know Natalie, Andrew and Rambo as they work together to survive in the Smoky Mountains. I loved the twists and turns as they try to find who is after them. I received a copy of this book from the publisher for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
I bought this because of the Newfie on the cover. I love Newfies! Christy Barritt didn’t disappoint with her story either. It was interesting and action packed from the first page. It also had a satisfying ending. It was easy to give it 5 stars.
I loved the faith based storyline. The mystery surrounding Natalie was enough to keep my attention from beginning to end. I love stories that include service dogs. I love the interaction between dog and handler. Keep the good books coming!!
Great suspense set in the Smoky Mountains with lots of mystery, a rescue dog, and a bit of romance. I loved the characters in this fast-paced story that kept me guessing. Another great read by Christy Barritt.
A lot of action and the dogs always make the law enforcement action interesting. Liked the plot and the characters. Good quick read for me. Not complicated and too in-depth to have a quick enjoyable read.
