A quick read on one entrepreneur's process for selecting what to write, getting it done quickly, and launching it successfully. I can't say whether Green's approach is the sure-fire path to bestsellerdom that he suggests it is, but I appreciate the clear step-by-step plan he offers the reader and the concrete discussion of the tools and methods he uses in his own practice. Might be a good choice for someone who wants to write and publish their first book (or second, or tenth) this year.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT Do you want to write a book without the stress of wondering if anyone will read it? Do you want to grow your business and authority without wasting time? Have you already tried other methods and everything you tried just didn’t seem to work? Are you ready to add that bestseller logo to your social media profile?
MY TAKE I love that this book doesn't just give out generic, nonspecific information. Green takes you through the process from initial research up through the launch, and he refers you to a lot of inexpensive and accessible resources.
I truly appreciate words from personal experience, rather than hypothetical or theoretical directions for what should work. His humor may not be for everyone - but I really respond to the slightly snarky, tell-it-like-it-is attitude. Jonathan has published a large number of books on Amazon using the Kindle platform, and in this book he takes the time to walk through his entire process. He also includes multiple tools to make the different steps easier, and since he has also actually used those tools his observations are from personal experience. Another point I appreciate is the fact he offers multiple solutions, from multiple price points and levels of complexity, for each tool. This allows for access (and potential success) for a much broader audience - including me. Since this subject is something I have started researching in earnest, it also helps that Jonathan has looked at many of those same resources I have. Because of his real-world experience, he is also able to evaluate those same sources - pointing out what he has found will work and what has failed miserably. My hope (dream, perhaps) of beginning a writing business is a step closer to success, because of all the actual, practical, real world advice provided by the author's personal experience. And since he doesn't suck, that's something.

A useful outline for making a living writing (primarily) non-fiction. Good tips for those who want to treat their books as commodities (not judging!). From the author's second chapter on making a plan, read and decide if this book is for you:
"When the project or the topic itself drives you, the book becomes the end result. Your primary goal is to release that story into the world.
"The second type of writer wants to build a business. This person sees writing as a step on the path to their goals. They want to create books that serve a purpose. They want to release books that make money."
"People in the second camp start with market research. They look for the audience, find out what that audience wants, and then give it to them. They still write about topics that interest them, but they factor the audience into their decisions."
I've read a LOT of books on writing and self-publishing. Well over a hundred so far and most of the top sellers everyone has heard of. This is one of the best. It covers pretty much everything important that I've read before and has a good bit of new information that's extremely useful. This is clearly written by an experienced author/marketer who knows what he's talking about. Even before I finished the book I started taking some of the steps that were suggested.
I write fiction, so much of the book launch advice that's out there isn't for me, but this has a good bit that is specifically geared toward fiction authors. It covers nonfiction a bit more than fiction, but there's still enough helpful information to make it well worthwhile. Highly recommended.

I don't write reviews. Well now I do thanks to this book! I've been trying to get up the courage to write my first book for a long while. This is the map to get there! Outline/research in progress now - that's step 1. All the steps are here, lined up in a row, with a call to action and offers to help get you there just by emailing him! He doesn't say 'That's in the next book' or 'Through my master class I'll teach you to...' This book has all the steps to outline, write, and publish your book on kindle. The supplemental material he mentions on the website is all there too just for the taking. The tools he uses are listed and the cost is usually slim to none or with a free variation. I now feel like I'm out of excuses! It's time to make money!
I really enjoyed reading this book and had to take notes often due to the amount of tools and resources it offers. Jonathan makes you feel like you’re having a conversation and he’s your coach on your journey. Is there beef? Absolutely! I’ve read several books on the subject, and even though, they are motivational, they offer very little actual guidance on what to do next. Jonathan’s book is full of ideas and tools. Now go read it! Breaking orbit is on my list for a second read.
This book has some amazing ideas, many of which I have never heard of, and I’ve read a lot of books about how to write and publish a book on Amazon. I do believe, as he states, that following his method will lead to success. He also states many times that he will help readers with any questions. I did send a question a few days ago, and have not heard back. He may, however, have lots of emails to respond to or it could have ended up in a spam folder. I will update this review if/when he responds.
Jonathan Green, author of "Breaking Orbit", writes in a relaxed, conversational way that makes his books enjoyable and easy to read, while providing loads of value on every page. His work is expertly edited in such a way that only the essential information is provided, which allows the reader to maximize learning time, then to take action on the strategies presented in this well-organized book.
The author made very to understand of how to things in his book, the only thing i didn’t like was the constant reminder in his book, was the first book he wrote ( Serve No Master) he repeats how many times in the book, i wished he added in the beginning of the book and at the end, not through out the whole book, which kind of annoyed me. But the book is very helpful at what you have to do and make you book a success.
As an amazon author just starting out, I was excited to read this and see how I could help the launch of my book which took place 6 months ago. While this book was extremely informative and helpful for those who write non fiction pieces, it didn’t give me that much insight into fiction novels. I’ll still try some of these methods though! Overall a good read regardless of what you’re trying to sell on amazon.
I can’t say enough good things about this book. I have read several books on this subject, and this is one of the best. I found many helpful insights throughout the book. However, the big takeaway for me was the practical instruction on how to research the market before starting to write. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to be a writer.

Defying Gravity to gain bestseller status Breaking Orbit is THE book that I'd recommend to any writer looking to create and launch their first self-published book. or their next one. Jonathan style is casual, engaging and informative. And he makes himself accessible to his readers, offering several ways to reach out to him with queries or requests for support as they create and launch their book.
I appreciate all the hard work Jonathan did in putting together all the “helps” that he did. I learned a lot, and I know that my books will be better handled in the future when I apply his suggestions. I put my heart and soul into my writing, and it’s a shame if it’s for nothing. I have more confidence, now. Thanks!
The author does a great job explaining the ins and outs of publishing your book through Amazon. He gives all of his secrets from what tools to use to the process that yield the best results.I highly recommend.
Then this book is a great resource for you. He covers how to launch, where to get traffic, how to pick out keywords, and more this guy knows what he is talking about.
Well written and concise. The book exceeded my expectations and managed to outline every error I made launching my first book. I feel better armed for my second launch, and am confident in the advice offered. The book was worth every penny and then some.
This book and the website are a value bomb of information on launching a book. Combined with Jonathan’s 20k and ChatGPT books I was able to write, edit, and launch my first book this year. If you follow the process you can do the same.
Jonathan's first book in the series, Serve No Master, was so good that as soon as I finished it I began looking for more content from him. I found Breaking Orbit and tore through it also. Jonathan makes top notch material. Can't wait for more.
This book is a fast read and also seems like it was written fast, some if the details are a little loosey-goosey. Nevertheless, it also has a ton of good ideas, many if which can be implemented rather easily. I wouldn't call the book in a class of its own because many other books, several better, have been written on the topic. But is good and worth a read.
