After a weird break-in and explosion in her cousin's lab, Ms. Marvel is left feeling a little out of sorts, but she thinks it's nothing a snack (or five) won't fix until she finds herself trapped in a Bollywood bubble. I was happy to find that there was a new solo Kamala Khan series, so I had to check this one out. G. Willow Wilson’s run is the definitive one so far, for me, and I think that Samira Ahmed could offer a fun take on Ms. Marvel based off this first issue.
Super fun after the second half! The opening is still interesting, I just enjoyed the vibrancy of the colors after the first part of the comic. I am a bit scared that this is going to turn into some tie-in with the television show they're working on for the MCU, but other than that it was a pleasant reading experience. Despite this, I'm still interested to follow the series - I'm just making sure to not get my hopes up too much.
I’ve been a fan of the Ms. Marvel series for quite some time and I have a lot of fondness for it. It’s the first superhero comics run that I got into, and Ms. Marvel Volume 1: No Normal ended up being the beginning of a wonderful dive into the world of comics and graphic novels. It’s hard to believe that I didn’t really read comics — superhero or otherwise — until Ms. Marvel.
I don’t think (please correct me if I’m wrong) that there are more Ms. Marvel comics on the horizon at the moment, but when I was browsing at the library and noticed that there were some comics from 2022 that I hadn’t read before, I was delighted to revisit one of my favorite superhero characters. So here we are. And better yet, Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit is written by one of my favorite YA authors! A perfect match.
The writing in Ms. Marvel is top-notch as usual, and a blast. There’s a good reason I love Ms. Marvel — she’s just a fun character! The art is action-packed, dynamic, and fresh. In this volume, Ms. Marvel is taking a break from superheroing to visit her cousin in Chicago — but superheroing isn’t something you can escape. Ms. Marvel gets pulled into an interdimensional adventure, her powers are failing her, and there is a more sinister force at play. And of course, there’s the romantic tension she has with her best friend. Everything you could want from a Ms. Marvel story.
The plot was fast-paced and kept my attention. I had some qualms about the direction of the plot and unanswered questions, which in fairness, are sure to be answered in the next volume. There were some events in the story that lacked the expected emotional impact, but I think that’s par for course in superhero comics, where the stakes are high and the story has to keep chugging along.
Overall, this was a delightful installment of Ms. Marvel and I will be looking out for the second volume to get caught up. Ms. Marvel doesn’t disappoint!
My first experience with Ms. Marvel was through the Marvel's Avengers video game. The game itself was mediocre although I found myself having a blast playing as Ms. Marvel. Kamala is a geek who wants to fit in and find her place in the world around her.
Kamala is in Chicago visiting her aunt. Her aunt is a scientist working at a University. As someone from the Midwest, it was cool seeing downtown Chicago being brought to life. Kamala goes to visit her aunt and realizes that someone tried to steal something from the lab. Kamala prevents the theft from occurring and once she returns home, she starts to have hallucinations?
I liked the guest appearance at the end
I think this series has a fun premise and would happily continue reading.
It was good and humorous, and covered a lot over just one issue. It felt a little crammed, but otherwise good. Suggest for if you've read past Ms. Marvel issues, it talks about and mentions moments from issues all the way back to the first ever issue. Over all, pretty good/ok, loved the art! 😍
I enjoyed this issue. It's not as strong for me as Saladin Ahmed's Ms. Marvel so far, but it was interesting and complex. The ending is kind of cheesy, but I have #2, so we'll see how it goes. Of course, I didn't realize this is old since it was on the shelf at the store, but that's okay! I'll check out #2 anyway.
