Lucid Dreams

Rate this book
After a horrific incident, Nite and his twin Dai are left to fend for themselves. Living recklessly in the fast lane, the twins flirt with danger not caring about the aftermath of their actions. Partying, popping pills, and getting money are just a few ways they cope with their untreated childhood trauma. Without the guidance of strong male figure and the love of a nurturing mother, they can come off as rude and callous.

For Hunter, life has never been easy. From birth, she was dealt a hand deemed unfair. With an alcoholic father and deadbeat baby daddy, Hunter is suffocating and no one seems to care. After literally being knocked off her feet by Nite, Hunter is immediately turned off by his rude demeanor, but she can’t seem to shake him.

The lines between reality and dreams are blurred when the past and future collide. Loyalty is tested, greed is at an all-time high and several lives are left hanging in the balance. Nite and Dai learn that no matter how hard they try, they can never outrun their past.

“Oh you trickin’?! 🗣️Big trickin’!!!!! Ayeeeeee I know that’s right!!! I’ve only read two authors that can give you some genuine gut busting laughs while also tackling deep deep trauma and that’s Nina and Ladii Nesha!! I think I say this in ever book review I give on her work but sis could be a fire aśś comedian and a successful one at that because the way she writes stories from the depths of her soul while weaving in humor is pure magic!

In Lucid Dreams we got to know the twins Dai and Nite. They had a beyond fkd up childhood. From a very young age Dai was the emotional two while Nite was the protective twin! The main person he protected Dai from growing up was their abusive father. Their father thought his tough love was producing tough men. And while some of his lessons stuck with them, others caused them to pay the ultimate price when it came to their sanity as adults. Choosing to navigate through life high off anything they can get their hands on while making money being illegal af, this is the only way they know how to survive. It was honestly Dai and Nite against the world and they took the term “my brother’s keeper” to heart!

Hunter is a young single mother and had an equally fkd up of not worse childhood than the twins. Never knowing her mother and being resented to the core by her father and brothers, Hunter suffered abuse at their hands pretty much from birth. She had no one to advocate for well being and lived a sad isolated life. Instead of using this as an excuse to be a fkd up adult she turned lemons into lemon drop martinis, lemon pound cake, lemon cheesecake and a citrus marinated seafood dinner 🤣🤣 y’all get the point, sis made ish shake! After crossing paths with the twins, Hunter had no idea of the wild ride she was in store for!!

If you’re a Ladii Nesha fan of hell even if you’ve never read her work, you’re in for a treat with this one! The drama 👩🏽‍🍳 💋, the humor 👩🏽‍🍳💋, the betrayal 👩🏽‍🍳 💋 the MF revenge 👩🏽‍🍳 💋 and most importantly the healing 👩🏽‍🍳 💋. I always look forward to her releases and I can’t wait to see what else she has up her sleeve in the future!!

I absolutely love when we get something from Nesha....I anticipate laughter....I stay up all night laughing at the comic relief supplied to us thanks heavily to Dai....I know the premise of the book primarily wasn't suppose to be about him...But, I absolutely adored him.....I loved the way he and his twin took care of one another....and when we were introduced to Hunter and Axel...I too loved how easy it was for them to fall naturally into taking care of both Nite & Dai. Hunter understood that although she had something blossoming with Nite, the twins came as a package deal. Both Nite and Dai took immediately to Hunter and her son Axel as well and began taking care of them also. Hunter's brothers were trash...I expected more from Buddy...but Jr. surprised me with his revelation about her life after prison. Aaron was another Trash ass person in the story....going around having all of those babies he couldn't/wouldn't take care of....Stupid Julie should have known better...she was sort of around when Aaron & Hunter called themselves dating. I enjoyed the development of Nite & Hunter's relationship....they both had issues stemming from some childhood trauma...but were able to work through it and fall in love. Hell, Crazy A** Dai was able to find his HEA....I was excited for the cameos from some of my favorites....Bambi got married, had a boatload of babies and became a hot a**, King is still King...Tree was awfully quite which is a big change for him...perhaps he's growing up....and we heard from Shayla more often...she definitely grew up....young Trinity is trying to step into her mother's old shoes...I enjoyed the banter between her and young Axel...I really enjoyed this story.

2nd read was the newly released audiobook narrated by Chance Smothers & Anna Lynn Wright

The Tibble twins have been through some thangs that will make you cringe. Their father was an abusive and cruel alcoholic and their mama was embarrassingly weak. The abuse and trauma Dai and Nite endured will break your heart. They were forced to fight older kids because their trash azz daddy placed bets on them, they had water thrown on them then were forced to stand in their 50 degree air conditioned home at all hours of the night, they were awakened in the middle of the night just to listen to their drunk azz daddy ramble on about nothin’ then, forced to write an essay about it, and so much more. Yeah, there was a lot of forcing going on in the Tibble household. And, this is in conjunction with the physical abuse they had to deal with as well. When tragedy strikes, the streets of Detroit becomes their new home and Dai and Nite are forced to raise themselves. Hunter is dealing with her own childhood trauma. When her mama dies during childbirth, her daddy blames her and he becomes neglectful and abusive almost from the time she comes out the womb. The way Hunter’s family treats not only her but, her son as well will make you cry. Given their backgrounds, it definitely was not love at first sight when these two meet but, Hunter and Nite have no idea how they are everything the other needs. They quickly become the peace both of them are so desperately looking for. This book is 408 pages full of drama, drama, drama so, I’m not going to give a detailed review. Just know there is plenty to keep you entertained and your interest peaked. You’ll cry for the trauma these characters go through, you will laugh your azz off at Dai’s comedic genius, you’ll fall in love with Axel’s sweet nature, and you will most definitely want to put them paws on Shawn, Aaron, Rob, and Buddy’s bum azzes. Oh, and Tina and Julie’s traitorous azzes too. We got a few cameos from the Bambi crew. Everybody is still toxic and in love, Bianca is still a fool, and Bone is still pullin’ all the ladies with her plastic peen. LOL!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Lucid Dreams was a dream to read. The storyline was engaging, raw, emotional, funny as hell, and the pacing was amazing. The subject matter was tough to read at times but, it was realistic and, unfortunately, relatable for some people. The author did a phenomenal job with this book and, if you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend you move it to the top of your TBR.

Nite x Hunter

This book was exhausting. Hear me out. One moment, I'm cackling, laughing out loud. The next, I'm getting upset and annoyed and angry, and the moment after that, my heart is breaking, and right after, my heart is cooing, and I feel butterflies in my tummy.
In a contest between Nite, Dai, and Hunter on who had the worst childhood, they all win. First place, all three of them.
Twins, Nite, and Dai lived by the rules of the streets: Dřugs, sex, and money and don't cross them. They'll do whatever it takes to survive. Their father's way of teaching them how to be men was to physically abuse them along with some wild lectures on life. Their poor mom couldn't do anything either cause she was also on the receiving end of their father's abuse. These brothers' bonds were out of this world. They're never too far apart. They were each other's keeper. They fight together, they party together, and partake in illegal activities together.
How Hunter was able to get up and be a single mom and function daily was beyond me with a past like hers. Her BD was a sorry ass excuse for a man. Her father was even worse. An abusive drunk who takes all his anger out on Hunter for something that was out of her control. And her brothers…just trash. The only light in her life is her 8-year-old little boy Axel, who stole my heart. He's all about his mamma. But Hunter was strong. Even when she couldn't see it.
Hunter and Nite met, and it was not a good first impression, but the attraction was there. They couldn't stay away. But, little do they know they are more connected than the attraction they have.
Their journey was an emotional dark ride with betrayal and backstabbing. But in the midst of the trauma-filled journey, there were tons of laughter, love, and healing.
This is my third book by this author. I'm realizing I can always count on her for some extremely dark, toxic, and hilarious stories.
I loved this. It was absolutely amazing. Thank you to my book friends for encouraging me to read this.

Romance and Drama with a side of funny!

This is my second read by Ladi Nesha and my absolute favorite of the two. Give me a good romance, a bit of toxicity, a handful of spice and a little bit (or a lot) of humor sprinkled in and I’m all in. I found myself laughing (out loud) from the beginning to End.
Now to the not so funny parts. Hunter whose mom was diagnosed with cancer decided to give birth at the risk of her own life. Hunter’s father Shawn disagreed with her choice and resented Hunter from the day she was born. She was starved, neglected and beaten. Hunter’s three older brothers were no better. Even though they didn’t physically abuse her, they definitely didn’t step in and protect her. This whole family was trash, throw the whole family and house away.

Nite and Dai, fraternal twins had it good until their father was hurt on the job, became addicted to pain killers and then an abusive alcoholic. He enjoyed beating on the two as well as their mother then dishing out long lectures on life. Majority of their father’s wrath was directed at Dai. His father perceived him as gay. Everybody thought Dai was gay. I wasn’t convinced until I read a scene with him balls deep in some 🐈‍⬛, however Dai was metrosexual. He loved 🐈 and women but was meticulous about his hygiene, appearance, and loved fashion from a very young age.

Nite meets Hunter and despite their past traumas manage to connect and eventually fall in love. However, it’s not as easy as it sounds. This book has so many twists and turns mixed with parts that will tug at your heartstrings. But there’s also Love, Loyalty and Laughs. Dai will have you clutching your sides and friends Harvey, Rina and Junie bring up the rear. This is definitely one to read.

✨Book Review✨

Y’all, I have NEVER LAUGHED SO MUCH AND SO HARD!! This is Hood Comedy at its finest!! So hilarious, but laughter is not the only emotion you’re going to feel; one minute, I was laughing; the next, I was crying, and then the next, I was pissed off; when I say you felt every emotion possible reading this one, you definitely will.

Twin brothers Nite and Dai are opposites but the same at the same time. These two had a childhood from hell. They were raised by an alcoholic father, who made it his duty to traumatize his sons, and a mother, who helplessly stood by and watched the abuse (also suffering from her husband's abuse). One night the unthinkable happens, which forces the boys to raise themselves in the tough streets of Detroit. Now they’re 21 and dealing with their trauma with pills and alcohol.

Hunter is dealing with her childhood trauma, being raised by a father who did not want her because he blamed her for her mother’s death during childbirth. She is verbally and physically abused by her this man her entire childhood, while her brothers ignore it and live their lives. Being a single mom and trying her hardest to raise her son to the best of her ability with no help from his sorry-ass daddy, Hunter does have one solid person in her life, which is her best friend, Junie.

Dai and Junie had me crying real tears from laughing so hard! These two are HILARIOUS, and they are so severe 😂.

I don’t think I’ve ever met a hood-ass metrosexual man, but Dai was that 🥷🏾 and you couldn’t tell him shit. Nite, on the other hand, was quiet and observant. But not one for the shits! And when he meets Hunter, the two immediately feel something.

Nite and Hunter were so cute 🥰 and Nite and Dai's relationship with Hunter's son Axel was one of my favorite parts of the book. Axel doesn’t play when it comes to his momma.

Great read!! This was my first book by Ladii Nesha, and I promise you it won’t be my last. Definitely recommend it if you want to be all up in your feelings

From Nightmares to Love

"Clap clap pound salute" that was the sound and gesture of the brotherhood throughout the book

Dai and Nite were twin brothers that shared pain and nightmares. They struggled to move past their traumatic childhood and their mother was a living reminder of the hell they went through. Both of them were cold and mean af and really only entertained their best friend Harvey and his family. Nite was hella dark until he came across Hunter...her energy knocked him off his square. She was feisty and she didn't take his ish. The more he learned about her the more he wanted her. Meeting her son Axel and sharing that gesture Clap clap pound salute with him, let me know he was really feeling her. Feeling them fall was everything. Nite was a softer freer man in her and Axels presence. Even Dai had a special relationship with them.
Dai was the comic relief. He was truthful to a default and he didn't care if his words hurt yo feelings. I cackled continuously at his antics. His obsession with the gooch was out of control. I just could not with him 🤣🤣 Dai and Nite were opposites, but on the low they both desired to be loved.
This story was about overcoming traumatic childhoods and finding a way to embrace your own happiness. It was hilarious, entertaining, engaging all while delivering a deep storyline. I enjoyed all of the characters, because they were people we would normally encounter. The ain't ish baby daddy, fraud 🥷🏾, fake friends etc. wrapped up into an unpredictable story.

I wanted to know 2 things...Hunter and Axels complexion because I wanted to picture them and also did the baby get green eyes.

the white man and the n word?!?

I don’t know if certain authors have lost their minds, but you do not need to write white characters that are saying the N-word. It is so unnecessary and so disrespectful. You can write white characters without having them going around, saying the N-word. Certain people are so obsessed with the idea of white people being so engaged in Black culture that they will allow for any type of disrespect. I did not need to read about a white man who is “basically mixed”. He’s not mixed, he’s white, and because of that he should not be saying the N-word. It’s same thing that I consistently see with black authors yet y’all would be the same ones complaining if a white person was saying that word in real life. Learn how to stay on code and stay true to yourself. Stop inviting everyone to the cookout. Very Weird.

I had such a range of emotions while reading this book. I had so many mixed emotions regarding Nite and Dai's father and mother. Never a dull time could be found. Dai provided the much-needed humorous relief. He was so funny! We had hood nonsense and drama. You simply never knew what would happen next. Hunter frustrated me with her mothering at times but I think the flaws just made the experience better. Ladi Nesha didnt disappoint. Hated Hunter family and her baby daddy they had a few screws loose.

This book wore me out

This book was such a rollercoaster of emotions for me. As far as Nite and Dai's dad, I have such conflicted feelings about him. He taught his boys such valuable lessons, but at what cost?
This book/story is a prime example of pain changing people.
My feelings are still feeling mighty tender for just about everyone involved. Except Ron and Aaron. Oh and Mika, Tiny and Felicia.
This was a very entertaining read. I'm so glad it ended the way it did.

Hood Comedy at its finest!

🚨Must Read🚨

I found myself in a reading slump and “Lucid Dreams” was exactly what I needed! Ladii Nesha is seriously a one of a kind writer! This story was hilarious, grimy, ratchet, hood, fun, exciting…etc. I could keep going!

Nite and Dai are twin brothers. So different, but also one in the same. These two had one hell of an upbringing. They were raised by an abusive drunk of a father that inflicted for much trauma on them and a mother that stood by and watched helplessly. Tragedy happens and they are forced to raise themselves in the streets of Detroit. Now at 21, they are going through the motions and attempting to cope with their past with pills and alcohol. 😢

I absolutely loved these twins! Dai was seriously the comic relief. He was hilarious! Some of the stuff he would say had me in tears 😂 I don’t think I’ve read about a proud funny hood ass metrosexual but I loved him! Nite was in a league of his own as well. He was silent but deadly. He was lowkey, blunt , and sexy as hell. I loved his mean ass! 🤣

Similar to Nite and Dai, Hunter was dealt a shitty hand in the parent lottery. She was raised by a drunken father that blamed her mother’s death during childbirth on her and inflicted so much pain on Hunter.

I absolutely loved Nite and Hunter’s story. Their relationship was a bit of a slow burn. I loved how Nite treated Hunter’s son. Axel was such a sweetheart and didn’t play about is mama. Hunter was exactly what Nite needed to start facing the demons that kept him up at night.

I really enjoyed their journey and their growth. My emotions were all over the place. I would go from laughing to shedding tears to being pissed off. It was heartbreaking at times!

Y’all this book was sooooo good! There was never a dull moment. Lots of drama and hood antics. You just never knew what was coming next. Ladii Nesha never lets us down. Not only does she bring us amazing main characters but I loved the side characters just as much! “Lucid Dreams” was one hell of a ride! There was so much going on but very well written. This story isn’t for the faint of heart.

I highly recommend this book! 🔥🔥🔥
Bravo Ladii Nesha for another job well done! 💐💐

One thing you can always count on with Ladii Nesha is drama, mess, and laughter and Lucid Dreams delivers all three. Unpopular opinion: although the book opens with a traumatic attention-grabber, it took a minute for me to get invested and the whole time I kept thinking, these twins are just two bad-ass knuckleheads.
But that last 50%?? I was absolutely locked in, kicking my feet, and laughing uncontrollably. The twins were a lot to handle, yet by the end, I found myself completely in love with Nite and Dai. Hunter definitely pissed me off at times, but her growth, especially when she had to throw hands, made her character so satisfying to follow.
Ladii Nesha knows how to take you on a wild ride, and this story is no exception.

A time was had!! I enjoyed this book. It was heavy, but Ladii Nesha knows how to add comedy to a book! The twins Dai and Nite had been through hell and back by the time they were adults, and the more you learned about their trauma, you also learned a key value taught by their abuser. It was such a complex situation to have so much knowledge, but also the trauma from their father made you question whether it was worth it. I loved how Harvey and his family took the twins in as family. Hunter was a fighter, and I loved that she finally got her happily ever after. I wasn’t sure after that scene at the homecoming party. That night was insane! Also, Ladii Nesha Nite didn’t have to go so hard on my girl Hunter. I get it, but omg! This was a fun read, and I get why some say it is their fave from Ladii Nesha. I won’t say what I believe is her best, but this was great!

This is one author that I never get enough of! Ladii Nesha has a pen that is so unique. She's created her own lane and babbyyy ima ride with her every step of the way!
She created Nite & Dai with no filter, apologies, or fawks to give, and let's just say it's warranted. These boys might be rough around the edges, but they are loyal af! The supporting characters gonna give us the business every time. Can't wait for y'all to meet the crew. As always, she pens humor, but the gems are never ending. Days later, and this book is still on my mind! Black excellence for sho!

Okay I talked a lot of mess at the beginning of this book because...the language used was absolutely insane. However the way this book had me LOCKED in to ALLLL 408 pages was actually insane LMAOOOO.

This had an amazing amount of drama though that really gave me LIFE. Hunters character actually made sense, Nite was likable i meannnnnnn. Had me kicking my feet a lil. I liked this a lot actually. It wasn't cringey and everything that went down really made sense. Almost had me drop a lil tear when i thought they had snatched my favorite character aka Dai.

Also this book was?? Absolutely hilarious?? Had me nearly in tears from laughing fr. This was a great palette cleansing book, a very nice giggle gaggle moment that i can get behind.

However...the reason i was cutting up about this book at first and the reason it gets 1.5 stars off is for the whole yt man "invited to the BBQ he can say the n word" mess though absolutely NAWT. 0/10 sorry. I understood Harveys position in the book and all, but its a no from me. Had the story not had me sat the entire time this wouldve gotten a smooth 2 stars lol.

Overall i really enjoyed this book though!!! Okay Ladii Nesha you have my attention 👁️ 👁️

The way that I devoured this book doesn’t make any sense! I was tuned in from beginning to end. This book embodies the definition of my brother’s keeper. Nite and Dai had it hard growing up and I’m glad that they didn’t succumb to the unfairness of what we call life. These two will have you crying and laughing and falling in love with them within these 408 or so pages. Harvey experienced hate the day she was born for no reason other than her mother passing away. I’m so happy that she got her HEA. All of the characters were lovable and if this was a series, I would definitely read more about their lives.

This was a pretty good read; although it started slower than I expected. The final 50% was really good. Nite and Dai were a lot at times; they experienced a lot of childhood trauma and self-medicated to numb the pain. I was glad they got the help they needed. Nite and Hunter were a match and even the age gap didn't impact them negatively. Nite was just what Hunter needed because her ex and family was such a disappointment. This story has quite a few things that could be a trigger to some readers, so take heed of that. There were a few parts that had me cracking up; it was much needed with all the heavy topics. Overall, I would recommend.

Another amazing book by Ladii Nesha❤️❤️

I loved the MMCs twin brothers Nite and Dai. Their bond was beautiful. I loved their relationship from their unwavering loyalty to their jokes and unspoken bond. I loved Hunter so much. She was perfect for Nite and their chemistry was soo good! Like usual Ladii Nesha also crafted interesting and stand out supporting characters from Junie, Harvey, and Axel. I enjoyed this story so much and would highly recommend.

WHAT A RIDE!!

Baby trauma on trauma on trauma.

I loved this book down. My heart goes out to Dai, Nite, and Hunter.

I didn’t understand Anna losing her mind over Sir being unalived. Cus girl, he used to beat you and your kids down. I would’ve considered it a favor from the universe.

Dai was a huge comedic relief and was very refreshing to see a man embrace his feelings in this messed up world

Nite was my man my man my man until the welcome home party fiasco. Cus baby what we not gon do is be disrespectful when poor Hunter was innocent. She was a victim to her father and brothers BS too! Like BFFR. I was praying that he got it together.

I’m really not a fan of the third act miscommunication stuff. I was pissed that it was 5 freaking months later? Like why y’all beefin this long?

Anyways, I’m glad they got it together because if not, I was just gonna go through the book and let Nite trick on me 🤑

I wanted Hunter to win so bad. She was making me mad dropping that baby off with Aaron knowing he wasn’t ish!! Other than that, I loved her and how she wasn’t afraid to knock a broad down.

Harvey and his family are the realest white people I’ve ever read about.

Rico, Keisha, Aaron, Shawn, Buddy, Julie, Tiny and Mika= A BUNCH OF TRASH A** BUMS. THEY MADE ME SICK!!!!

I’m probably missing a few names, but y’all get my point. 🤣

Big Trickin!!!

I thought I loved Bambi and the gang but Nite & Dai took the spot! Dai was my favorite- I loved his character and he kept me laughing. I also love the bond these two brothers shared. They went through some traumatic times together but they held on tight to each other. Can’t forget about Harvey. He and his family were amazing to the twins. Once the story got going- I was on the edge of my seat with suspense. I loved it and I want more! I wouldn’t be mad at a Lucid Dreams II 👀
