This is one of those comics Marvel puts out every couple of years to introduce you to all their current line of comics and their creators with everyone getting 4 pages. This is about a locked room mystery where someone is found dead. It was billed that it would be "shocking" but my response was "who?" and I've been reading Marvel comics for decades. The story jumps from book to book as everyone is asked is they know what some code is. This was fine but you really aren't missing anything if you skip this fat $10 comic.

This book started out great, with a series of Marvel characters playing pass-the-parcel with an intriguing murder mystery... and it ended really well, too, when it got back to the murder mystery plot. Unfortunately, it fell down by including a bunch of totally irrelevant stuff in the middle of the book.

The reason for this, of course, is because this book is actually an advertisement for a whole bunch of upcoming Marvel books, but damnit they came so close to making it feel like an actual story!

The highlight of the book, for me, was a potty-mouthed H.E.R.B.I.E. having had his inhibitor chip removed by a well-intention Valeria Richards. Seriously hilarious.

3.5 stars. The reason I bought this expensive ass book (luckily I get a discount at my part time gig) was because I was interested in this masked guy. Unfortunately he is only in like the first five pages. However I did like how the mystery carried on form the masked guy to Daredevil to Jessica Jones etc etc. Plus how when each new character popped up, they were right where they are in their own comic. Pretty cool. But as the comic progressed we did get a little away from the initial mystery. Moving forward, this issue did set up some interesting things coming in the future.

I was SO sure I was going to hate this, but surprise surprise it was fun!

So many characters, so much stuff happening all around at the same time, that you can actually keep up with? I know, I was shocked too, and I lose myself pretty easily in events with a bazillion characters that I don't care about at all, but this one is setting up to be a promising event and I liked it throughout the whole issue, up until the end of it which begins the new Empyre event, and it looks pretty good from the get-go.

Artwork is great too!

Oh Marvel!

Incoming is without a doubt one of the most complex plots of the season (well, that might be an exaggeration, with all of the other events that have been happening lately, but you get my drift). It pulls in dozens of heroes, for a variety of reasons. A lot of the twists and turns in this single issue were not ones I could have predicted, and I love that.

This issue is a whopping 92 pages, which is a good thing, given how much actually happens within these pages. Seriously, looking back at it, I'm surprised they were able to keep it under 100 pages.

There were several moments that literally made me stop and stare at the page. That's thanks in part to the surprise appearances, but also thanks to what was actually happening to or because of those characters. It's given me hope for some of my favorite b or c lister characters, and for that reason alone I love this issue.

Another highlight for this issue is the fact that every setting change resulted in a style and artist change as well. I love massive group projects like this, so that was fairly exciting. If you're looking to see a wide variety of styles and artists, this is an excellent issue for you to check out.

The other part I loved about this issue? It concludes with a list of characters and plot arcs. This is an excellent guide, telling you what series to pick up in order to follow all of the different threads hinted at during this issue. And my comic TBR list has gotten ever larger, thanks to this.

This story was fine, introducing a neat murder mystery and a code that no one can quite figure out and so we hop from person to person, trying to solve this mystery.
An interesting enough plot, but one that fell flat and ultimately didn't feel very strong.
I understand that this whole comic is really just an advertisement for all the different Marvel comics happening, but it really felt like one too, a little too much I'd say.
Still, an interesting read, fun read, I loved H.E.R.B.I.E. cursing out the Fantastic Four and our brief moments with Hulkling and Billy were really sweet, but I wouldn't spend $10 on it.

I have no idea what is happening, who is on what team, who half (or more) of these characters even are, or why they’re all in this massive floppy. I see some wiki browsing in my future.

The biggest problem with this mega issue is that it doesn't deliver on the promise. The mystery at the center covers some of the stories, yes, but most of the middle is just random spots in the marvel universe. Maybe the 20 different stories will connect but it seems unlikely. I'm most interested in the Masked Raider, who is kind of the new Watcher. But Incoming definitely doesn't connect the dots of everything that happened in 2019

The beginning started out really strong but once they deviated too far from the murder mystery it lost some of its steam though that ending was an interesting WTF moment. This is better than some of Marvel’s previous attempts at this kind of “launching point” comic. Better than I expected and the new Masked Raider is an intriguing concept

Mmm...

I don’t usually read a lot of Marvel. I find it a little overwhelming to find a place to start. The universe is so vast, and there are tons of characters with multiple plot lines. I thought Incoming! would be an excellent one-off to read. For the most part, I was following along. There were a few confusing spots but I like that I got to learn about multiple heroes. The artwork and writing are excellent. It was a sweet treat to switch it up.

Hailed as the closing chapter of Marvel's 80th year--and on the heels of Marvel Comics #1000 and #1001, this comic is extremely functional as a teaser of things to come, but ultimately underwhelming. We still have no idea of the Masked Rider's identity and motives.

I've been slowly dropping all my interest in "Big Two" books for the past several years. I'm only down to Morrison's Green Lantern and Ellis' Batman at DC--and I'm keen on following Al Ewing's career--that's it. I'll occasionally dip in capstone/novelty, i.e. King Thor and the History of the Marvel Universe.

So, books like this have had a long tradition over the past decade or so--they're perfect little updates to send to my friend in Japan to keep him up to date of the status of the grand corporate narratives!

Incoming ultimately serves as the starting point for ending the Celestial Messiah Saga and the Reckoning War..

Not so much a Marvel event, more of a bad advertisement of current Marvel titles.

Let's go over the book description, with my comments in parentheses:

A mysterious murder (that no one cares about) brings together the heroes of the Marvel Universe (every 5-6 pages is by a different creative team, based on which titles are ongoing right now) in the search for a killer (not so much a search, more of a "pass the hot potato") - but no one can imagine where the trail will lead (to an anticlimactic finale that no one cares about), or how it will affect everything in 2020 and beyond! (teasing Empyre and other things coming)

I would never recommend buying this book. This book should have been given out for free (maybe for FCBD), as it's nothing more of a big advertisement for Marvel, a showcase of the creative teams, and a bad one as that, as the few pages that each creative team made, adds nothing substantial to a murder case which was uninteresting and unimportant from the start either way.

This is another example of almost getting what you planned for. This is, basically, an advertisement for the coming year (spring 2020) of Marvel comics. It starts out strong...fades in the middle....and rallies at the end. You don't NEED this to read Empyre, and it might be included in the TPB books.

Worst thing brought into this is the 'Masked Raider'. He wears a piece of the cosmic character Eternity that grants him the ability to be precognitive, slightly. Proximity to someone gives him the ability to copy their power set to 'be their match'. Just....what the hell?! It's like a cross between DC's Harbinger and Marvel's Mimic.

End result: it's all a set up for the 'Empyre' multi book crossover.

Could have been half the length and just as effective. Some of the appearances felt forced with no apparent reason for being there (of course Marvel may prove me wrong).
Each change of team/hero resulted in a change of artist, which to be honest I found off putting at first, but would certainly point me in the right direction for issues to pick up in the future.
Some gorgeous Billy/Teddy panels. Loved the FF stuff. And Spider-man (both of them).
In really glad I read FF annual #18 before this so I knew who the two important characters were.

Right off to read X-men/Fantastic Four before I start on Empyre proper.

So me being new to the whole comic book marvel industry i didn't know that this is actually just advertising a new line of comics. After knowing that, it totally makes sense but like with the way the synopsis was, it's kind of a let down, because as i was reading a lot of stuff in the middle, i just wasn't processing some parts cuz i didn't understand how that correlated to the story at all, now i see why but like it's whatever i guess.
Though it did get me interested in certain comics not going to lie. So i guess that's the positive side to that.

Incoming!

I am so glad I went back and bought this after I read the first 3 issues of the Empyre event! First of all it’s a great murder mystery that sets up the start of Empyre but it also revisits and summarizes all the major Marvel story lines from last year in an entertaining and interesting way, featuring the creative teams from each series, plus my local comic book shop had some variant covers so I got to pick a cover I really liked! Bonus!

I read this issue about a year ago, but had forgotten most of it, and felt like I should read it again in preparation for my upcoming read-through of the 2020 Marvel event, "Empyre." I liked this over-sized issue quite a bit, and am especially interested in some of the story threads picked up from "Marvel Comics #1000." Al Ewing is one of my favorite current writers, and I'm really drawn to his new character called the Masked Raider.

It is good that Marvel is trying to create the illusion of a common universe, but Incoming is a total mess. Half of the issue is just a filler and teaser for other series.

This was not a bad book, but it suffered from trying to do too much at once. The result was a story that was disjointed with several segments in the middle that didn't relate to the promised shocking murder mystery.

One of the finest Marvel books I have read in a long, long time. Ties up and introduces the plot threads from so many different directions, even ones that don't interest me. Great nexus point on where things are, where they're going and where I most want to head next. MUST READ!
