SUCH a touching story! I LOVE stories based on true events, and this was told by the people it happened to themselves! Kim Carpenter and his wife were in a terrible car accident right after their wedding and she tragically suffered a terrible brain injury. In turn she forgot about the last five years of her life and did not remember her husband or any of their past. This story instills the promise two people make to god when they get married and how no matter what happens you never ever give up on those vows. It was never an option for Kim to leave his wife. Even after she awoke from acoma an learned of him she too agreed even though this man was a stranger to her, that they would make it work because of the promise they made to god. She says "I fell in love with this man once it must have been for a reason." She eventually falls in love with him all over again due to his dedication and to her healing process, all the hardships he faced just to be able to see her weekly while living in a different state than where she was being treated. When it would have been easier to him to leave her and be released of all the medical bills and troubles they were facing as a couple. she had terrible mood swings and rejected him for a long time. He worried someday they wouldn't live together although still married because of how hard it was to be together. Starting therapy helped them tremendously see all that the other person was doing and learned to grow gratitude and love for each other. She never regained her memory but she never sees this missed time as a loss. Only an opportunity to make new memories with an amazing person. I love this story and it helped me value so much more my partner and how important it is to make an active choice everyday to never give up on this person, and god will reward you.

I picked this one up at a thrift store because I loved the movie so much. The story of this couple is absolutely incredible. Their connection before the accident and everything they went through. I admire their passion towards eachother and that life got worked out in the end.

However, after finishing the book, I wanted to see what they were up to and was disappointed to find out that they divorced because he was unfaithful. It totally ruined everything for me. I still thought their story was interesting, but I’m sad to hear it actually didn’t work out in the end.

This book is AMAZING, so is the movie! I wish there was a part two, but it truly was so amazing! He fell in love with her by just her voice, and stuck with her even when she had no clue who he was. Just a great great book!

The true story that they made a movie about. Shortly after getting married, the wife loses her memory and doesn’t remember getting married. Rachel McAdams plays her in the movie version.

Such an inspiring book. He had an affair later in life which completely nullified anything he said about vowing to keep his marriage.

The narrative presented in the book is conveyed through the perspective of the husband, Kim Carpenter, which I believe enhances its emotional impact. Initially, he recounts the circumstances of how he and his wife, Krickitt, first encountered one another. Their serendipitous meeting exemplifies nothing short of divine providence. God is aware of whom you will marry, the timing of your meeting, and the manner in which it will occur. There is no need to search for a partner, as God has already chosen them for you. Even in the most unexpected locations and the most distant cities, if it is God's will for you to unite, it will come to pass. Keep this in mind. Ultimately, the book narrates the tale of Kim and Krickitt's renewed courtship, their engagement, and wedding, alongside the rapid involvement of the media as a significant force in their lives. The narrative concludes with their current experiences; filming the movie featuring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, nurturing their children, and deepening their relationship with God and each other daily. For a brief yet touching read that offers a faith-driven journey, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. I also encourage viewing the film and drawing your own comparisons between the two. Both are remarkable and inspired by God.
