My first foray into this series.

The word "twee" is probably the best to describe this reading experience. Even though there is a bully and mild peril there is still an aura that I would equate to the one that The Famous Five had too.

The main characters are all easy to like and the book does show that it is acceptable to have doubts over your ability which is an important life lesson. The moral of the story is that being kind is more important than winning which is also true.

A great book to read as a bedtime story to younger children or for a young reader to attempt themselves. It has a varied vocabulary without ever seeming too difficult.

I read this book to my daughter and I have found the more Willow Valley books I read the more they grow on me. This book again centres around the 3 best friends Riley (a mouse); Starla (a badger) and Horatio (a hedgehog). This time the book is set at Midsummers Eve and is centred around a bike race. It highlights that positive characteristics are important and that negative characteristics don't get you anywhere in the long run. I would recommend this book to parents to read to children and for children to read to themselves.
