Jed's dad is a tap-dancing policeman. What could be more embarrassing? And when a picture of him appears in the paper, Jed hangs his head and wishes he had a different family. But when Jed's dad catches a thief, Jed realises he should be proud of his dad - and that tap-dancing is brilliant exercise!
This book is about Jed’s family who all love tap dancing-even his Dad! When his Dad appears in the newspaper, the school bullies begin to tease Jed. Until one day, Jed and his Dad are on their way to the park when they witness a robbery. Jed’s Dad chases the robber and after a long chase, Jed’s Dad catches the robber in front of lots of people, including the bullies and Jed’s Dad has shown the bullies that he is nothing to tease Jed about.
Stop, thief! Is an interesting book for developing readers, the language is quite simple but not so simple that it is tedious or boring. The pictures, by Heather Heywood, are vibrant and interesting and would act as a visual stimulus for children who use the pictures to decipher what is happening in the sentence if they struggle to read it.
