I'm partial to this because I personally know Marion J. Cocke and what a wonderful person she is. Elvis saw it too as she makes very clear in the book. It's hard for me to give it anything but 5 stars because of knowing her and being able to visualize what she is talking about.
This is definitely a must read book. Not just for the Elvis fan, but it's a wonderfully written and from the heart book. I was in tears half the time. I couldn't put it down and finished it in about 4 hours. It's amazing how this woman could read Elvis the way she did. His love and respect for Marian Cocke was what he missed from when his mother died. She definitely loved Elvis as well and had become a "special" person in not only Elvis' life , but those who lived and worked at Graceland.
I'm adding the beverage related phrases Marian shared with Elvis to my repertoire. "Lather up" means to add cream and sugar to coffee. "Belly wash" is soda pop. I'm thinking I need to pursue the Elvis impersonation/ singing telegram market and add giving away Matchbox Cadillacs.
I paid a pretty penny for this book, but it was sweet and kept my attention throughout. Marian seems like a really genuine person. I love reading about people's personal experiences with Elvis.
A very beautiful book about Elvis from the stories from his nurse Marian Cocke I highly recommend it for Elvis fans one of the better books about Elvis that came out after he died
I really loved this short little book. It shows yet another side of Elvis, one which I truly loved to see. His relationship with Marian was truly heartwarming (rather like mother and son even though she was only 9 years his senior) and she clearly loved him very much. A must read for Elvis fans.
