A young lady searching for an Alichino--beautiful creatures that grant any wish to those who find them, but at a price--wants to bring her brother back to life and thinks that the handsome young man named Tsugiri may be an Alichino. Teen.
And just like that, I am heartbroken again. I still hold out hope that one day, they will pick this series back up. Even if it's incomplete, it will forever be one of my favorites.
As posed and lifeless as a series of Lutz dolls. Still quite, quite gorgeous, but there's no movement whatsoever in the panels, which gives the sensation that the characters represented are perfectly aware that you're looking at them, and thus are displaying themselves to their best advantage.
And really, the art is the best reason to pick up the series--it's fairly shallow.

Today's post is on Alichino volume 3 by Kouyu Shurei. It is 168 pages long and is published by Tokyopop. The cover has the three of the main characters on it. It is the third in her Alichino series so you need to have read the first two to understand what is going on. The intended reader is someone who likes darker epic fantasy and beautiful art. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of Tsugiri. There Be Spoilers Ahead.
From the back of the book- Finaly, the mysterious connection between Ryko, Myobi, Hibiki, and Matsurika is revealed!
Ryoko spots a figure in a crowd, and by his reaction, Tsugiri can tell it's not just anyone. The person turns out to be Hibiki, an old friend who's being used by Matsurika. Once Matsurika gets hold of something, she never lets go- and her next target seems to be Tsugiri!
Review- Unfortunately this is the last volume of Alichino, the author was injured and has never drawn anything again, best that I can find in my personal research. So we get no real conclusion to the story. We do not know what Tsugiri can do or why, everything just stops for us the readers. In this volume we discover how Ryoko and Myobi met and made their contract and why. But no other answers into this world are given. This series so beautiful and it makes me sad that Shurei never recovered from her accident as she is so talented. If you want something that is pretty to look at and do not mind not having an ending then read this series but if unfinished plots bother you then pass this one.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
So the story and the series ends with a fizzle, never to be completed or picked up ever again. If you're the sort of person that likes a full story, don't both with this one, because it's unfinished. But, I guess if you're here, that means it's too late. Oops. Anywho. The art remains still beautiful but confusing. The characters still look similar enough that it can be hard telling who's who and the dialog going back and forth enough that it takes re-reading to get the conversation right.
Another series that never got finished/translated. I feel like so many smaller manga series are like this. Oh well. This was a blast from the past and I'm glad to have all 3 in my collection.
Why ? why would it end there ..... i expected so much more like at least defeat the villain or be defeated , if you happen to read this let me tell you theirs some back story but if your expecting some awesome battle to go down .... it's not happening literally it doesn't happen so there just going to leave with ..... back story no rescue , no defeating .. nothing
also if you're reading this it means you're ok with going pass the spoiler part ....smart move dude , smart move

Oh, this is not the final volume. Apparently, this series is another that was victimized by TokyoPop going out of business. (Looking at you, Immortal Rain.)
Hibiki and Ryouko had a huge fight in this volume and it was still difficult to tell all the characters apart without their clothing. Amiya was, I guess, an old love interest of Ryouko and she was killed by Matsulika who now wears her face.
Since this is incomplete, we'll never know what the ending is going to be and this series definitely can't stand on its own merits or the artwork. I would have passed on reading it if I'd known it would have a cliffhanger. 2/5
‘The dark beauty … of insanity and suffering … lurked so deep … in your marrow … that you lost sight of … who you are.’ (p. 10-1)
Ryoko and Myobi are looking for Tsugiri and Enju. During the search they meet Matsurika, and finally the mysterious connection between Ryoko, Myobi, Hibiki, and Matsurika is revealed. Hibiki is a Ryoko’s friend and when Matsurika catches Hibiki’s soul, Ryoko can save his friend only signing a ‘contract’ with Myobi (a beautiful owl or girl or Alichino). Only Kusabi can destroy Alichino / Matsurika’s soul; and only Tsugiri is the Kusabi.
‘When you forge a contract with an Alichino, your two life forces merge. You will remain alive, for as long as that Alichino takes breath … and you will be infused with that Alichino’s power. But in exchange, you will completely loose sense of who once were.’ (p. 43).
The characters are solitary (uninhabited cities), with the feeling that nothing matters, kneeling in front of Fate.
Beautiful creatures that are beckoned by human sorrow, desires, and longing. They grant any wish of your heart's desire, but you must be ready to pay them back! All they ask for is to be compensated with the same 'weighted' price as the wish itself. To many manga enthusiast, it will be apparent from the start that the art work is amazing. But as a forewarn, this manga is cut short. There are only 3 Volumes to the series, and Volume 4 is on hiatus. I only 'wish' it could continue =) Alichino is about a young man who has the ability to attract Alichino since birth, but he never knew why. With this mysterious connection he has with these creatures all those around him end up hurt, killed, or dying. What is enticing these beautiful beings? Only one way to find out.
This was the weakest of the three volumes of Alichino. Ryoko's story was a bit diluted and I wasn't quite sure what was going on with the specifics of his bond with Myobi. All in all, his story wasn't all that interesting.
But I'm sad that this series has ended here. I'm still curious how it would have ended. Maybe some day, if it ever picks up again, I can finish reading it.
I am truly sorry that this series is not being continued. Admittedly, I found the plot quite obscure, but the artwork is the finest I have seen in manga.
