I broke down and sobbed so many times reading this book. There are terrible, terrible things that happen in this world, and I couldn't be more thankful there's a beautiful, loving God who isn't blind to the horrors and one day will bring justice and peace.

This was a quick read, but the material was rich and heavy. It gives a great layout of Amy Carmichael's life in general and her experiences in India. The plight of the temple children and child widows is not for the faint of heart, but it reminded me of the evil that is in our world, and it gave me hope that we only have to be willing to love in the name of Christ to make a difference. I loved this book!

A shame to say, but I had quite a bit of difficulty reading. Chapters are organized by years, but little transition from one incident to another. Would love to learn more about Amy Carmichael...perhaps another book.

Powerfully inspirational. I have a new appreciation of the deep darkness found in Hinduism & the release that Jesus brings.

Amy Carmichael’s life as a missionary to India’s young children is always a great story to tell our children. But it’s in the adult version where we are made more aware of the horrors that lurked inside the Hindu temples, the literal filth and stink where small girls were forced to do things abhorrent and wrong. Amy fought against the deeply established Hindu temple abominations that had tormented children’s lives for hundreds of years. What could one little missionary gal do? How did she manage to take care of all those needy children? Amy Carmichael’s story informs, convicts, and then inspires.

amazing woman, amazing work!

Amidst the breathtaking heat of India and rampant worship of idols, Amy slowly carved out a rescue mission for the most innocent of the country . The love in her heart, created by God Himself, transcended any thoughts of her own safety or Comforts, relying solely on God for her every need. A True and all-encompassing treasure of a read for any woman, Christian or otherwise, who wants to see the dedication and perseverance that brought about the saving of almost 1,000 children!

This is a wonderful biography of Amy Carmichael's life and her mission in India. This is not an exhaustive biography that covers all events in chronological order. Each chapter focuses on a theme of Amy's mission and the beautiful children she touched during her lifetime. I would highly recommend this, but know your heart will simply ache for the poor babies sold to become slaves in Indian temples.

A quick read with a lot of insights into the life of this incredible lady. Certainly not written in the current style of biographies but it was engaging as the thoughts kept changing with almost each new paragraph.

This book gives an account of how Amy Carmichael came to be a missionary in India and how she became a mother to over 2000 unwanted children in India. It highlights the abuse and child molestation of little girls and boys in the name of religious piety.

Excellent book. However, the beginning is especially difficult to read simply due to the events that are being described. It is not for the faint of heart. God is glorified and Amy Carmichael’s work and life are honored.

This book wet my appetite for more. As another reviewer said, the writing style seemed a bit disorganized but the events described were at times thrilling and horrifying. Amy Carmichael’s life and ministry is inspiring and I look forward to learning more.
