if you like making books on your own, this author is the fucking shit. i mean, if you buy all his books, there is no reason to buy another. he carefully explains everything. this one in particular is non-adhesive binding (no glues) and focuses on exposed spines which i think can be quite pleasant. i took a bookbinding class my last semester at herron and we made paper. i picked up the pulp from a really cool place in brookston indiana called "twin rocker paper company". i went to see if i could get free pulp again and they had this book. i couldn't resist. i have always wanted to read it and not just borrow it from borders.
I borrowed this book from the library and am weighing whether or not to buy it as a reference book. I found bits helpful here and there. Reference - pg 45: Rounding & Backing, pg 48: Building a book press, pg: 50 dying thread. Along the spine binding patterns - pg 86: spiral binding, pg 180: double raised supports Across the spine binding patters - pg 225: 8 different Coptic styles & various board attachment styles, pg 247: Celtic weave, pg 258: Greek knot, pg 265: Caterpillar
