bookbinders only.

if you like making books on your own, this author is the fucking shit. i mean, if you buy all his books, there is no reason to buy another. he carefully explains everything. this one in particular is non-adhesive binding (no glues) and focuses on exposed spines which i think can be quite pleasant. i took a bookbinding class my last semester at herron and we made paper. i picked up the pulp from a really cool place in brookston indiana called "twin rocker paper company". i went to see if i could get free pulp again and they had this book. i couldn't resist. i have always wanted to read it and not just borrow it from borders.

I borrowed this book from the library and am weighing whether or not to buy it as a reference book. I found bits helpful here and there.
Reference - pg 45: Rounding & Backing, pg 48: Building a book press, pg: 50 dying thread.
Along the spine binding patterns - pg 86: spiral binding, pg 180: double raised supports
Across the spine binding patters - pg 225: 8 different Coptic styles & various board attachment styles, pg 247: Celtic weave, pg 258: Greek knot, pg 265: Caterpillar

Instructions on how to create amazing and advanced bindings for hand made books. Keith Smith gives detailed instructions with well done illustrations, but these are still really difficult bindings to create for anyone but advanced book binders. With commitment and dedication, Smith will guide students with this amazing text, and results will be worth the effort!

All four of these books are a great reference and inspiration for learning new bookbinding styles.
