Selby battles humungous waves at the Surf-Racing Championships while trying to keep his tongue-tickling talent tucked away. Surely Selby's secret won't be revealed just because he decided to try surfing!! Ages 7-12
Duncan Ball is an American-born Australian author who has written the children's series Selby (about a talking dog named Selby who tries to keep his secret away from his owners) and Emily Eyefinger (about a girl who has an eye on her finger). He also writes under the name of John St Claire. Duncan currently lives in Glebe‚ NSW with his wife‚ Jill.
Book seven of the Selby series sees another collection of short stories about our intrepid talking do hero, basically more of the same, although it is not essential, it does help to read them in order because there is references to previous stories, which is a good way of introducing the concept of continuity.
This book is about a talking dog called Selby and some his adventures in Australia and others places as well. He lives in a little country town with his owners Mr and Mrs Trifle. But nobody knows Selby can talk and Selby isn't planing to tell anybody any time soon. The main story in this book is when Selby gets stuck on a surf board with a famous surfer called Cool Jules and has to ride the biggest and fastest wave. I thought it was an alright book but not one of my favorites.
We are churning through these Selby books and loving how funny they are plus great vocab and high interest. Perfect for a strecth of a read with appropriate content for a seven year old.
