The three popular stories about the mangy, three-legged, street-wise Fleabag are brought together in one volume. Fleabag and the Fire Cat introduces us to the world of the Ring Fire and to Gemma the kitchen maid with her powers of reading the flame. In Fleabag and the Ring Fire cat and girl combine to seek the Queen's ring which must be found to prevent the fall of the kingdom, and in Fleabag and the Ring's End a new challenge has to be the evil power of the wizards of Porthwain.
I rediscovered this trilogy whilst rescuing all my childhood books from my parents attic and decided to re-read it, and I'm so glad I did! I love stories that provide representation and characters for children to be inspired by, and rediscovering Rowanne; the female knight who was rude, and who lacked compassion, and who was so motivated by her love for her friends, and Gemma; who came from nothing and who was allowed to doubt herself and be scared, reminded me exactly why I was so in love with this series as a child. Not only that, but I still loved it reading it as an adult. It has all the key features of a good fantasy; magic, evil wizards, good versus evil, and a talking cat. Not only that, but it casts the most unlikely heroes, and is full of constant reminders that the most ordinary, unlikely people can become extraordinary.
Ring Fire is quite a book. It involves a kitchen maid, a lady knight a thief and a talking three-legged cat, who go on a quest to find a ring. The ring is the symbol of the king or queen and it holds the eternal and magical Fire. This book was very well written, using beautiful words that make the story flow beautifully. It includes all of the characters perspectives and is extremely realistic in the way that characters react to certain situations. This allows the reader to personally interact with all of the characters and allows them to know the characters better.
I read this a very long time ago but remembered loving it. The ending was memorable and has stuck with me. Also, I just love Fleabag. I got it a book swap day at school and am glad i picked it up.
