David F. Payne served as Senior Lecturer in Semitic Studies at Queen's University of Belfast and Academic Dean of London Bible College. He is the author of several books and articles on the Old Testament.

After spending a year with William Barclay, David Payne is a bit of a let-down. To his credit, he does point out the cultural and historic context, but not to the standard that I've become accustomed. I believe there is more available documentation online than this volume provides for today's reader.
