5hrs 4 mins I've been framed for murder. The evidence is damnable.
To catch a vampire draining the life out of someone on camera...
When the killer looked back, my face was staring right into the monitors.
Not even the Voodoo Queen can defend me. I'm on the run.
F***ING SHAPESHIFTERS!
Someone wants me out of the picture. They want me on the run.
Who did it? Why are they framing me?
There's a bounty on my head. Forget hunters—they're problem enough. Every vampire, witch, vodouisant, and werewolf in New Orleans is looking to collect.
Theophilus Monroe is a fantasy author with a knack for real-life characters whose supernatural experiences speak to the pangs of ordinary life. After earning his Ph.D. in Theology, he decided that academic treatises that no one will read (beyond other academics) was a dull way to spend his life. So, he began using his background in religious studies to create new worlds and forms of magic-informed by religious myths, ancient and modern-that would intrigue readers, inspire imaginations, and speak to real-world problems in fantastical ways.
Every time I read a Hailey book, I'm always reminded how much I love her character. She's a snarky, quick mouthed highly entertaining character. Actually, all of the author's characters are highly entertaining and the one who never fails to amuse me is Paulie. His foul mouth belies his genuine caring, his genuine willingness to help, his kindness and loyalty to his friends. Although, truth be told, it is the author's ability that brings these characters to life, he gives them a special "je ne će quoi" that always has me excited to read whatever book he writes. And there's always a wonderful quick humour that permeates throughout, which is just lovely.
Anyway.... this book is once again a fast paced, a quick and fun read. Hailey and Nico have managed to attract trouble with a capital "T". It's such a hoot reading how unimpressed Hailey is with Nico's status, I mean, she should be deferring to him, not smart mouthing him, and yet she does, much to my delight. Their friendly banter is halted when there's a massive disturbance, or better said, a mass murder by lookalikes. That's too much info for me to get into, so best you read it yourself, you won't be disappointed.
Stealing and resealing sire bonds, travelling all over the place, courtesy of Paulie mostly and Hailey is forced to come up with a dreadful plan, dreadful for her but she hopes by making this bargain she can stop Bianca once and for all. It's gets really complicated, the entire chase, the fight to keep some semblance of, well, of something! Normal wouldn't be the right term seeing as there's witches, Vampires and all sorts of supernaturals. Very exciting, very well paced.
One of the things I really enjoy when reading a Theo book is whenever I'm certain of the way the story is going, he twists it right around, taking it into a direction I wasn't expecting. One such is when the green eyed Baron Samedi does an incredibly honourable deed, that was really an awwww moment. So you can bet your bottom dollar that I highly recommend this book and series.
New urban fantasy audiobook release Shifters and Shenanigans is the final installment for Theophilus Monroe and his THE BLOOD WITCH SAGA urban fantasy audiobook series. I have to say I am sad to see Hailey's story come to a close. Theo has assured me and the fans Hailey will be back. We will be recording a new vampire witch series in the fall with Mercy Brown - THE FURY OF A VAMPIRE WITCH . It's impossible to imagine the head of the Vampire Council (US) Mercy without her foster progeny Hailey. As for THE BLOOD WITCH SAGA and Shifters and Shenanigans in particular; I have really enjoyed the arc of this series and its heroine. Hailey has truly come of age. And the story has too. Hailey has had to deal with greater and greater challenges. She is beginning to ask questions. Good questions. Adult questions. It's not just about who wins and who loses any longer. What begins with a salacious romp with the Vampire King in Book One Voodoo and Vampires, comes around to envelop the nature of time and space; who has the right, the temperament, and the incorruptibility to control the energy of the Universe. A variation on that theme has been at the heart of our political and ethical struggles in America, as we wrestle for the soul of our democracy. Hailey's getting tired of being the go-to undead superhero. She wants a 'normal life' - or as normal as one's life can be for someone who can't be in the sun, drinks blood for dinner, and looks over her shoulder for anyone carrying a sharp object. She loves her rather strange immortal family dearly, but wonders what might have been. As she considers her endless future, she questions her role to make the kind of world she would like eternity to be. With the existence of humanity on the line, Hailey understands her wants and desires can't be the only considerations. I admire Theophilus Monroe. While he does not position his work to a young adult audience, its hard to imagine they do not make up a vast segment of his readers and listeners. As he draws his fan base in with contemporary references and snark, and digs for the adults with technological and digital ignorance, his message of responsibility, tolerance, positivity, and participation is clear. And it can resonate for any age. I am pleased to be a part of that message. And hey, it's not every audiobook recording project for which one must come up with special effects for red, black, green, yellow AND pink magic. And let's not forget Vampire Hell. So thank you Theophilus Monroe. It's been a gas working with you. Hope to do it again very soon.
“Shifters & Shenanigans”, the eight instalment in “The Blood Witch Saga” series by Theophilus Monroe will drive you nuts 😉 in the best of ways. Hailey Bradbury, Hedge Witch and Vampire, has known her own share of persecution, but nothing like this: she is being framed as murderous vampire, her face on camera for everyone to see, as she drains the life out of the victim. It looks bad, with a capital B, but this is Hailey we are talking about and she is surely not one to go down without a fight… or two… not that she will ever go down anyways 😉.
This series successfully blends voodoo, magic, fantasy, mystery and romance with mythology, vampire-lore, and teenager angst into an incredible tasty tale with the unique flavour only Monroe knows how to spin. A story that interweaves a fast-paced action-filled plot, and multidimensional characters to form a very well-crafted tapestry, using the magnificent New Orleans realistic landscape as a further character in the story.
“The Blood Witch Saga” is part of Monroe’s original “Gates of Eden” verse which loosely borrows Arthurian tropes and transfer them organically into a modern urban fantasy that spans centuries, crossing realms and blurs the boundaries between reality and legend and transforms them into a veritable smørrebrød of action, unexpected twists, wonderful characters and mind-blowing descriptions, garnished with a good dose of magic some sprinkles of mythical lore and some paranormal romance on the side, and served with very well-crafted, with an accurate world building, interesting characters, captivating writing style and carefully editing. Monroe’s ‘Gates of Eden’ verse is populated by a vast number of extraordinary characters, which are (unless very subjectively) almost impossible to rank, but all beware! Hailey is aiming for the top of the food chain already 😉
This is the 8th novel in the Blood Witch Saga series. Our main character is Hailey Bradbury: she is a Hedge Witch and a Vampire. Hailwy was only 16 when she was turned. Her sire was staked just moments after she was turned. She was fortunate that as a youngling, the Voodoo Queen took her in and taught me her the art of the queen. Currently she is working with the new Mistress of the Vampire Council. She took her under her wing and trained in the ways of vampirism. Now Haily is a very unique individual she is a trained in Witchcraft + Voodoo + Vampirism = what she now calls bloodwitchery. One of the most dangerous and strongest crafts known and one that very few witches will attempt to practice.
In this novel Hailey has been framed for murder. They have a video of a vampire draining the life out of the victim and the face of the vampire is Hailey. No one is able to help her not even the Voodoo Queen. She is now on the run. She knows it has to be shapeshifters. They could be her and no one would ever be able to tell the difference. But who and why do they want to do this?
Who did it? Why are they framing me? Now there's a bounty on her head. Not just hunters but every vampire, witch, vodouisant, and werewolf in New Orleans is looking to collect.
I absolutely love the work of Theophilus Monroe. I have been fortunate to have begun reading his work at about the time that he began writing. I cannot recommend any one more highly. This is my true and honest opinion.
Shifters and Shenanigans is the eighth book in The Blood Witch Saga. Reading Shifters and Shenanigans like the seven books before it has been a blast. I love all the characters. I love that Theophilus Monroe brings characters from other books into another. I love that their worlds connect. I love that all the characters are connected in different books.
Shifters and Shenanigans kept me on the edge of my seat racing to the end as I couldn’t get enough of all the fighting and magic. The descriptions were so vividly written, I could see it all playing out in my head as if I was right there.
Hailey, Nico, Connor, Corbin, and everyone else kept me hanging on and wanting more. I love their attitudes and their personalities. I can’t wait to read more about these characters in this world or another.
In Shifters and Shenanigans, Hailey’s world has been turned upside down. She has been framed for murder. The evidence is incriminating. She was caught on camera standing in the middle of the street draining the life out of someone.
Did she do it? Or is she being framed? If she is being framed the next question would be how? If that is not Hailey’s face on the camera then whose is it? The next question is why? Why would anyone want to frame Hayley?
I highly recommend Shifters and Shenanigans to all paranormal fans! Grab your copy of Shifters and Shenanigans today!
This a hysterical book in the series, for one reason.........lots of PAULI!!!!!! He is the funniest, most colorful, pun intended, character I've ever read. (Can you tell I'm a HUGE fan?)
Anyway, Hailey gets in a pretty precarious spot. Through no actions of her own, but the actions of some old foes. Let me just say this, the friends and foes are like Timex watches, they take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. *SPOILER ALERT* Except one that is.
Hailey ends up being a fugitive on the run, from human cops, due to said foes, for mass murder of all things. It's not just her either. It's her and a wolf. For some reason the police arrest Connor. And on a ruse, they arrest Annabelle as well.
Hailey and friends hatch a plan to show the police the truth of what they are actually dealing with. The ones who survive thanks the Pauli's help are shocked and shaken but they then support and believe Hailey. How can they not, the proof is on their body cams. They get Annabelle and Connor sprug just in time to help Hailey and the rest to help with a new bigger problem and plan.
Will Hailey prevail or the demigod she's up against? Just read and find out. It's fantastic, worth every penny and every minute spent reading it!
This was another fun read in this series and this time Hailey is in big trouble. She has been caught on camera draining the life out of a human, but was it really her? Well there's no one else that looks like her, right? Or is there? I loved this plot! It was very well written and flowed with a fast pace, but not so fast that you got lost. The world building was great as always and I love reading about the different realms the characters ended up in.
With the police breathing down her neck, Hailey has to find out who it really was imitating her and to find something that can prove her innocence. She has to make a few deals and sacrifices and gets help from all her friends and allies, but Pauli was the best one here! I love his silly innuendos, but have to say that Hailey's attitude, particularly towards Nico, irritated me more in this one. She came across as a spoilt little brat at times and was rude and disrespectful sometimes too. Nico was trying to help her and she treated him like dirt!
I was very happy with the ending as well - the culprit definitely got what they deserved!
I received an ARC copy of this book, but this review is my own, honest one.
Well that was unfortunate. Framed for murder by a shifter wearing her face, our heroine is on the hunt for the killer while also on the run from pretty much everyone. No asking for help on this one.
This is book eight of the series. It works rather well as a standalone with all the essential bits covered early on. You will be missing some of the backstory, but nothing essential to enjoying this book. That being said, after reading this one, you will want to go back for the earlier ones anyway.
This is an urban fantasy story with witches, vampires and more. The story is well written and easy to read, but at the same time it is also rather deep and complex. The setting is well developed with lots of details that provide new twists all the time. Similarly, the characters are well done with distinct personalities and often conflicting goals. All of it combines with a fast paced plot that is full of action, intrigue and mystery. Overall, this was a great story and I look forward to more in this series.
Highly recommended.

This one wasn't for me. I picked it because I am a big fan of paranormal romance and I live in New Orleans so I like reading books set here! There wasn't really much romance in this one but I do enjoy urban fantasy as well and I was interested in a character who was both a vampire and a witch. One thing I did like about this book is that it had some new takes on paranormal characters. For example, vampires got made differently than any other book I've read. What didn't work for me was a lot of the characters felt like stereotypes. This may be because I was meeting them part way through the series but the snake shifter always making sex jokes and hitting on everyone didn't work for me. I also don't think there are senior residences in the french quarter. I appreciate that people want to set books in New Orleans because it is a wonderful city but the whole city isn't the french quarter.
I listened the the audiobook version of this book and I wasn't a fan of it. I could tell the narrator made a big effort to make the voices different but they ended up sounding like stereotypes.
I was provided this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
When Hailey is framed by two old enemies and her world gets more complicated, she will have to work out a way to clear her name. Her wolf boyfriend has also been dragged into this and all of her friends must get involved. She must make deals and promise things she doesn't quite want to give for everyone to walk away from this intact. Everyone is under threat and all must come together to fight the unexpected leader.
I thoroughly enjoyed the drama, the humor, the action, the intensity and every bit of wit thrown at the page. The characters are so well written and have developed from when we first saw them. Bonds can be so easily swapped and inhaled that I was fully addicted to every word. I was shocked by the amount of twists and unpredictability that could never have me able to guess what would come next. An entertaining and satisfying story that had me loving how everything was wrapped up until next time.

This was another win for Hailey and the gang. Hailey brings a smile to my face every time I read one of her books. I devoured this book when I received it and was not disappointed. It had all the drama and humor that I have come to expect from a Hailey book. I sure will miss her now that her series has technically come to an end. She is a memorable character that brings the unexpected and brings life to this world that has been created. She is lovable and spunky and tries to do right. She can kick butt when needed. Hailey is the probably my favorite character of the world that Author Monroe has built; however, he is going to do some more Mercy books and you just gotta love Mercy. This storyline was highly entertaining and brought lots of smiles to my face. I highly recommend this book and all the Hailey books every single one she is in so the whole universe of Author Theophilus Monroe pretty much.
Hailey has been put in a bad place that gets a bounty on her head and a ton of grief from the paranormals. She has been framed for murder with video evidence that is painfully incriminating as a vampire drains the victim and glances back at the camera – and it’s Hailey’s face staring at it! There is currently no defense offered with such a vivid display. How can she prove whether someone is framing her? And who is a likely suspect? In fact, why would someone do this to her?
I didn’t particularly like the smart-mouth and attitude of several characters, but I guess that’s just a personal preference. Having everyone after her will definitely keep Hailey out of action since she will be too busy running to interfere with the real bad-guy’s activities. Grab your copy and see who is behind all of this!
Whew! This was close! Even though I know Hailey is intelligent, smart and powerful, and wise enough to ask her friends for help when needed to keep the world safe, I still worried and wondered how she was going to get out of this conundrum. Very clever plot!
She is so inherently good that she takes on great challenges in order to save as many as she can. Would that still be true somewhere along the line, in a future where she has no soul? Could the very choice to give up her immortal soul in order to save the people she loved be at the root of a future wrathful and powerful being? What is the soul, after all? Does the soul define us? Is the soul rooted in the heart, or in the mind? Or in both?.

Shifters and Shenanigans by Theophilus Monroe is a book that remains true to the ideology that Hailey is a Bad A$$ in any language. As a protagonist, she is strong, tough, dependable and yet her soft, warm, and empathic side is never far away. Once again, her lovesick nemesis has hatched a master plan to win her over even if it means killing her in the process. True to form, he makes an utter mess of it forcing our lovely heroine to do some unsightly deals and trades with the scalawags of the underworld that put her very immortal soul at risk. No sacrifice is too great for Hailey as she rises to the occasion to protect humanity from subjugation and death at the hands of evil forces. This is a great book and I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.
Oh Hailey. She is the Blood Witch we all love and every book, has just become so much more. The sire, the friend, the savior, and the greatest girlfriend (you're welcome girl).
This one tests all the limits of Hailey and her crew. We get to see some oldies, always have a few baddies, and of course, an evil that needs to be GONE! OH and Pauli!!
Great book, laughs, sighs, and a little bittersweet moment where you realize, not going to see Hailey for a bit, at least in her own series, but know she deserves a good rest and some cuddles from Connor!.

Hailey seems to do quite an important job for a young vampire, and she sometimes does it well, and sometimes just with gritted teeth, blood and all sorts of intervention- with assistance able and awful.
can Hailey work with allies and others to save the world, and her bit of the world, another day?
with great power in play, will desperate choices cost greatly, or achieve great or necessary things?
managing even more epic skills, powers, and others is a tough job that is sometimes fraught with apocalyptic consequences and sometimes with another day to try again
it's a bumpy ride, sometimes sad, often bittersweet, and an exciting and compelling read!
This follows on from "Wraiths & Warlocks" and is another fun read. Nico is back and working with Hailey and friends, though she's still trying to work out the dynamic between them. Unfortunately she has bigger worries as the chief of police, and everyone else, is after her and Connor for the murder of 15 people. There's video footage of her draining a human, but she had been nowhere near that area of the city. But how can she prove it wasn't her with the vivid photos of her face?
A great read with vampires, witches, shifters, plenty of portal travelling and more. There's fast paced action, drama, magic, sarcastic humor, some great twists and the return of old friends.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the final book in the series and the author does not disappoint!! She did a great job pulling me in and kept me glued to the pages with all the twists and turns along the way. It's an intriguing story with the magic and murder. Add in the humor and entertaining characters and she delivers a well written book. It moves fluidly with descriptive scenes and I loved reading. Highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
No matter where Hailey goes trouble is always around the corner. She's a trouble magnet and this time is no different. I love Hailey's character. This book was hysterical. Pauli is as always hysterical. The innuendo's just keep coming. This book is a definite read for paranormal fans. Fast paced with action around every corner. When you actually find yourself laughing out loud, you know the author has definitely hooked you. Fantastic series.

Hailey is back for another adventure but this time she has a bounty on her head. There is a video that shows her draining the life out of a human. She swears it isn't her but it's indisputable proof. Everyone in new Orleans is out to find her and collect the reward. This book is so thrilling. You never know what will happen next. I love Hailey's snark and her witty banter. She is my favorite character in this fantastic and dynamic series. I definitely recommend this book.

Received as an ARC, I am leaving my honest review. Wow, this series just keeps getting more amazing. The plot is intense and certainly keeps your attention as Hailey, Nico, Sarah and the rest of their friends and coworkers try to figure out a very complicated situation. Seems like the solutions are impossible, but, after seeming like there is no plan that will work, a successful plan is hatched. Can the gang implement their actions in time or will everything come undone. Prepare for a great time reading!
Hailey is a blood witch with a LOT of extra oomph. A wolf-shifter for a boyfriend, a demigod with a crush on her, and those are just the tip of the iceberg. So who had the chutzpah to frame her for murder ... and why did he/she/they think it would work?
If you like fantasy books with a myriad of voodoo/voudon associations, shape shifters, witches, demons, and more; then you're going to love reading Theo Monroe's stories. Start at the beginning and read them all, there are a number of references to earlier events which will make more sense that way.
Shifters and Shenanigans: The Blood Witch Saga, Book 8, my thirty-ninth read from author Theophilus Monroe. Theophilus Monroe has become one of my favorite authors in the last year. Although he's slowed down in his writing the quality of his writing has not! Well written & enjoyable read, the eighth in his Blood Witch Saga series. I was given an Audible copy of this book (and own a Kindle copy as well so I could read along while being read to) & am voluntarily reviewing it. Kelley Hazen’s excellent narration again adds to the book’s enjoyment. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Audiobook: I enjoyed book 8 of "The Blood Witch Saga" as much as the rest of the series. Hailey Bradbury was caught on camera committing a crime and so every supernatural being along with the local police force were looking for her. The story was exciting. The humor was contagious. The characters were fun and outrageous. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Kelley Hazen's narration was great, and she kept my attention with her performance. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.
Love the personality! Hailey Bradbury stories have the personality that keeps you smiling even when there is a crisis. This latest installment deals with the supernatural with a twist. Each book can be read as a standalone since each book deals with a specific situation however there are several references gleaned from previous stories that give understanding and knowledge. Pauli is a favorite! As always Hailey and her crew try to keep the world and people safe but it sure is an enjoyable read.

Hailey continues to learn about her powers and abilities. Hailey has a great group of friends that join her in the fight to keep evil out the earthly realm. You learn more about previous book characters and how they become friends and advisories of good. Great storytelling, keeps you interesting and wanting good to win over evil, friends pulling together and each helping in their own way to win the battle.
Oh, my! I don't think I have ever laughed so much reading an intense "gotta save the world" book! I had forgotten how much Pauli made me laugh and the exchange between Hailey and Nico while he changes the oil in the truck had me giggling. That said, this book is still an intense, action packed, "cover your eyes and peek through your fingers" book. I obviously, really liked it.

What a great ending to this series! The author is amazing at building worlds and characters that seem believably real. With this book being full of all types of supernatural beings, it’s a unique and fun escape from the real world. You won’t want to put it down once you start! Definitely start at book one in this series (or go back even further in his writings because most of this author’s series intertwine in some way!).
So, the end of the series or is it. This one was very, very good. Once I started to read I just couldn’t put it down till I’d finished it. There is something going on from the first page to the last. Intrigue, twists and turns this one has them all. I hope there will be another book sometime in the future. Highly recommended.
Set aside a day for this latest PG Theophilus Monroe paranormal extravaganza set mainly around New Orleans that starts with someone framing Hailey and Connor for mass murder, but do NOT read in public as chortles will ensue.
