If you don't know who you are and you don't know where you're headed, you might find yourself spiralling in circles until you come to rest in a crummy two-star hotel, where the service is churlish, the lift doesn't work, and the pot plants set off your allergies.
When I first saw this play on the shelves of my favorite bookstore, it immediately caught my attention mostly because it mirrored how I was feeling at the time. I started reading it during a period in my life when I felt lost and was desperately looking for something that would tell me everything was going to be okay or just to know how life will be without me?! And to my surprise, it never gave me a clear answer and actually showed me that it is ok to not be ok. It showed the pain of pretending to be fine or to move on or accept being forgotten. It reminds you that pretending to be someone you’re not or denying what you feel is something that can’t last forever. This play won’t give you any solutions, it sits with you in the confusion and somehow that makes you feel less alone.
"The world is filled with sharp corners, with spikes and edges. It makes me wince to think of how many ways a person can be hurt by the world, hurt and not know they have been, or know they have been and not know how."
A lovely piece of magical realism that says a lot about people. Some fascinating monologues and scenes to inspire your work if you're an actor, too.
I had to read and analyse this for drama and omg I LOVE THIS PLAY!!!! It’s so beautiful and it’s an absurd piece but theirs so much depth and symbolism to the little things and it’s such a sweet ending oml everyone needs to at least read or go watch this performed
