Fantasizing has always been an important part of Donna's life. While growing up in a small Ohio town, she and her friends played make-believe for hours on end, spinning the most fantastic scenarios, all rich in relationship drama. (They were mostly based on fairy tales and her mom's favorite soap operas.)

But in her teenage years, when her friends outgrew their "let's pretend" games, Donna still craved…something. So at 18, she set out for parts unknown, living in a half-dozen states, working diverse jobs, trying her hand at skydiving, whitewater rafting, motorcycling and tea-leaves reading. She realized the most intriguing element of her journey was the characters she met along the way.

After working at occupations ranging from commercial shrimper to cocktail waitress to financial aid director of an art college, Donna finally found the drama she craves — writing novels.

Happily married to an avid "junkee" — owner of a junk, antiques and collectibles business — she has two teenage sons and two older stepsons with lovely little families of their own. Donna lives in a log cabin in northeast Georgia where she writes for the Harlequin Temptation, Harlequin Superromance and Harlequin Blaze lines. Her novels have won her several prestigious awards…and many blissful hours fantasizing.

I got this book, chosen at random, in a care package from the Ripped Bodice bookstore. It's 20 years old, so it was dated in all the ways I expected it to be. It was a nice little trip back into my past romance reading days, including the ways that it was batsh*t crazy bananapants bonkers and completely implausible. But it was entertaining. I don't like liars, in books or real life, but the one way I can usually manage to handle them is if they are keeping a secret to save their life. This could have been the case with Jen until she threw in... a prostitution angle??? That's where it became really terrible lying, and I mean terrible as in she was bad at it, and yet Trev believed her some of the time. Not always, but more than a man with any brains should have. She could have just told the "keeping a lifesaving secret" lies and she would have been fine, but the prostitution thing was just wacky.
Definitely screams "author needs a gimmick!" Anyway, it was ridiculous and entertaining and I'm glad it was short because I wouldn't have been able to handle their shenanigans for too much longer, but I don't regret reading it.
