Gloria Gene Lingenfelter Williams was born November 28, 1930 in Enid, Oklahoma. She graduated from Deer Creek High School in Oklahoma in 1948, Oklahoma City University magna cum laude with a BA in 1952, and Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University with a Masters in Religious Education in 1954. Together with her husband, the Reverend Leonard A. Williams, she served as a missionary for the United Methodist Church in Brazil from 1956 to 1968. Gloria played many roles in many churches for more than 44 years as Leonard served as a Methodist minister in Brazil, and then back in the United States in Oklahoma and Missouri, all while raising four children. Gloria and Leonard received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Oklahoma City University in 1969. She also received the Service to Mankind Award from the Sertoma chapter in Savannah, Missouri in 1978, and was named the Mother of the Year at Union College in Brazil in 1966. She is fluent in English and Portuguese.
