Her brother's best friend is not only the hottest man Michelle Dennis has ever seen, he's the one man she hopes to avoid after leaving town eight years ago. Of course he's the one waiting at the airport. Worse, he made sure they're staying in the same house.

Pro football player Alex Stafford is expecting to pick up his friend's kid sister, not a full-fledged bombshell. He was planning to apologize for their past, but the feelings he had years ago come roaring back . . . and this time, there's no denying them.

Keeping his hands off is a test he's bound to fail--especially when they're stuck in close quarters. But falling in love with Michelle, living in her world, isn't an option for a guy like him. And remembering that will save them both a lot of heartache . . .

Contains mature themes.

The story was ok. Sweet plot. Older brother's best friend. Nothing out of this world, but a comfortable read. Honestly though, I just didn't really buy into it. Though complete, the flow felt choppy. Michelle didn't seem to know her own mind. I got over the push and pull, hot and cold thing she and Alex had going pretty quickly. I really like the family. They were supportive, warm, and welcoming. The love scenes were good. Keeping it short. Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing. No rape or abuse.

PS: If she's supposed to be a genius, I couldn't tell...

3 Everyone Making Decisions Stars

Why is it everyone thinks they know what is best for their love interest... Why is there no actual talking and explaining...This story has this undercurrent running throughout and through trials and hiccups... we finally get these two who are meant to be together...together.

There is the troupe of brother's best friend...and how he knew he should not have feelings for the younger sister...Teenage times are confusing; it is unfortunate when hormones and words mix...It was this confused mixture of ugliness which was the reason Michelle Dennis left so abruptly after finishing high school never to return for 8 long years to the surrogate family she loved so much.

Michelle had a crappy family of her own and Alex Stafford's family embraced her brother and her as one of their own. They were the "Ozzie and Harriet" to her nightmare at home. They were the ones to encourage her and feed her mind, body and soul. ...And it was their son Alex who fed her dreams at night.

Michelle was smart; making all sorts of honor rolls and scholarships...She was encouraged by the Stafford's to expand her goals... see what she could do with all of her talents and science called out to her. Yet she also was so taken with Alex, she decided to lay everything on the line the night he was leaving for college....

Alex knowing he had these overwhelming and confusing feelings for Michelle, pushed her away....making her feel less than...and causing her to rush to another ...proving to her heartbroken self she was not a little girl. Alex breaks up things before they go too far...but in doing that he crushes and hurts Michelle beyond repair...hateful, ugly words are said...things that can never be forgotten...especially at 18...These two lost everything in a moment's time...all the years of friendship, all the affection...gone.

We meet up with them as they both are on a collision course... Michelle is returning back to the Stafford's home for their huge Anniversary party. It is something she could not in all conscience ignore. She knows she will have to see Alex at some point...and as the professional, she has become, she plans on being just that when seeing him.

Michelle has risen in her career; she has worked in Academia and is at the level to become a professor at a prodigious university. She excels in research and is up for a position which would allow her to do what she loves. She is waiting to hear if she has been chosen for the position. It is something she wants.

Alex has taken the road which was easy for him. He is a professional Football Player with a strong reputation. He has always been charming and easy to get along with everyone. No serious relationships and his main goal while here for his parent's party is to "Fix" things with Alex. He has felt horrible for what transpired and plans to do whatever he can to make things right...

And his idea of doing that is to meet her at the airport, manipulate her accommodations and force her to listen to what he has to say...

Well, gee...That's going to work...NOT.

This story takes on a couple of issues...the hurt and pain of what words can do to young people and the impact of learning disabilities... Today things are better...people are more understanding of differences- or at least they should be with all of the information out there about the many types of learning issues. During Alex's time, it is implied there may not have been such an open, talked about atmosphere in his school. His parents were positive and supported him; it was Alex who could not deal with his situation. It impacted everything he felt, did and how he saw himself.

The lesson presented is to be who you are knowing you are not less than... just doing things a little differently than others. It is important and once he learned it, it freed him.

This book had a positive intent and brought to light issues which always need positive reinforcement.

3 Together at Last Stars

From the time they were kids, Michelle has always been just a little in love with Alex. As she grew into a brilliant teenager, those feelings continued to grow. The problem? Alex is her brother’s best friend and he’s made it clear with humiliating results that he only thinks of her as a little sister.

“You always did know when I was up to something.”
“And you always knew I’d be watching over you.”

Fast forward eight years and Michelle’s returning home for the first time since Alex demolished her eighteen year old heart. The years have been good to her, both personally and professionally and It’s her turn to show the now NFL pro linebacker just what he’s been missing. She should be able to fling her heart out with Alex and still keep her distance, right?

3 Star reviews for me are always the most difficult to write. If I’m rating 3 stars, it means that I enjoyed the book but may not get around to rereading it. On the one hand, Just One Week was an entertaining and fun read. On the other, there’s not much that’s remarkable about the story to recommend it. Preconceived ideas and self-doubts were thrown in for some drama, but overall this is a low key story about two friends who’ve always felt more for each other finding their way back together.

Just One Week was fun. And entertaining. And true to its characters. But it didn't wow me. The only thing that was a little different from most other books with the brother's friend trope is that Alex was also Michelle's friend. His family was her family in every way that counted. So, Michelle not coming home for eight years didn't feel right. Because what happened to her teenage heart happened between her and Alex, not his family. The family that practically raised her ... so that didn't ring real to me.

Communication can be a bitch at eighteen LOL Hormones get in the way of thought process and alphabet soup comes out of your mouth instead of coherent thoughtful phrases. Alex walked that path without missing a beat. He was the perfect teenager. And Michelle was the perfect teenage reactionary .... But that was then and this is now :) Now they're adults. Surely they can get it right this time .....

Like I said ... fun is the name of the game for this book. It was a romantic, light-hearted story. It was sexy, but mostly it was heart-warming and entertaining and a quick read. It's a perfect book to pick up if you just don't know what you're in the mood for because it's pleasing all around.

This was a cute short story about a second chance love. Michelle and her brother, Kyle didn't have the greatest home life. Michelle's father seemed to take great pleasure in cutting her down. Kyle's best friend Alex and his family took them both into the family showing them the love they should have received from their own parents.

This story takes place 8 years after Michelle graduated from high school and left town for good. Michelle fell in love with Alex when they were kids. She idolized him and he was always there protecting her, showing her affection she craved. That is until a confrontation happened that hurt her so bad that she left and never looked back. Michelle kept in touch with his parents but never came back home. Finally Emma and Jim, Alex's parents, convinced her to come back home for their anniversary party and Michelle knew it was time to face Alex again.

The author doesn't reveal what happened to cause Michelle to leave until much later in the story so I'll keep that a mystery. There is a lot of hurt feelings but still love between Michelle and Alex and both have their own insecurities. This story is about them overcoming those insecurities and allowing them to be who they are and still feel they deserve love.

This is a safe read. No other woman/man drama and no abuse.

A new-to-me-author with another his best friend’s little sis trope, and not one I found much different from a ton of others. Lured by the hook of a “football player” as a main character, along with the 99-cent sale price, I one-clicked. Okay, I’ll also admit to really liking that hot pink cover with the model clutching the football tightly to her side. Confession time: I’m a sucker for a football romance every single time. However, there wasn't much of the sport included except for as it related to Alex's profession.

Michelle Dennis got her heart broken when her brother’s best friend, Alex Stafford, rejected her. After high school graduation, she took off for college without a word to anyone, and has never returned. Fast forward eight years and a 35th wedding anniversary party, combined with a 65th birthday, brings her back home. She’s a brainiac college professor and he’s a sexy NFL football linebacker. Still carrying the hurt and anger, she plots revenge. Alex, on the other hand, just wants to mend fences and be forgiven for the way he treated Michelle. That is, until he sees her and realizes that he can’t ignore the feelings he’s always felt for her — even if her brother is still his best friend. The Stafford family is busy at work playing matchmaker between the two. Before too long, these two are making up for lost time and things get hot and heavy. The angst is minimal with most of the trouble stemming from self-doubt and silliness that isn’t worth mentioning. A little mature conversation could have saved a lot of wasted time.

Both Michelle (or Mickey as Alex calls her) and Alex came off as immature and foolish for their age, making it equally difficult for me to bond with either of them. Their behavior didn’t really track with either’s professional or intellectual status. Mickey’s ploy to exact revenge against Alex was completely childish and ridiculous. And Alex’s lack of confidence, and the reason for it, just didn’t register true with all the successes he had attained in his career and his otherwise positive attitude.

With the promotion of a couple of issues that are important in all our lives, I am pleased to say the positive intent, as applied to both main characters, met its goal. The emphasis on “how words can hurt” carried a strong message in its influence on both the young and inexperienced to even the strongest personalities.

On the negative side, I felt the entire plot was a bit sensational. The reasoning behind the eight-year estrangement that kept Mickey away from home, and then pushed her to return, came across as exaggerated and overplayed. Just didn’t feel “real” to me. Not talking to people for eight years that you’ve known your entire life, who have included you and your brother as part of their family, and you don’t keep in touch or let them know anything about what is going on in your life, is a really far-fetched notion. Especially when one of them is your brother that you proclaim to love — and others that welcomed you into their home and helped you when you needed it most.

There are some strong players in the secondary cast. Alex’s family is too-good-to-be-true. I totally enjoyed the family’s interaction and the love they shared beyond the borders of their immediate family. Readers are sure to appreciate the humor of a grandma who is no shrinking violet, as she expertly showcases her interviewing skills for potential love interests for her grandson, and in a most clever and funny way.

I can’t say I loved this one, but I didn’t hate it either. It was merely an easy, quick and spicy read that was mediocre at best. It definitely had possibilities of being so much more. And had the story been written with a more age appropriate and mature feel, minus the teenager-ish behavior, I probably would have enjoyed the set-up much more.

Happy. That's how this book made me feel. Delighted, really. Because Just One Week was just so...adorable.

I mean, it was sexy, too. But mostly, this quick read was a sweet, butterfly-inducing romance. And that's why I enjoyed it so damn much. I wanted light. Maybe even a little fluffy. Which I got.

Michelle and Alex's story was one of second chances, with a dash of unrequited love. It gently tackled self-esteem—or the lack thereof—and how words can have a lasting effect, which maybe gave it some added depth that kept it from be too twee. Add to that the thread of familial acceptance, and a chemistry between the lead couple that was palpable, and you have a winning formula.

A formula I hope to see again, in future books featuring the funny and likable secondary characters—namely Kyle, and Chase and Lianna. That, too, would make me very happy...just like this book. ~ Beth, 4.5 stars

DNF at 48%.

I'm sorry, I tried more than once with this novel but I found myself grinding my teeth once too often.

Michelle Dennis is an academic on the verge of getting a faculty position at a prominent University. She is also on the way to her brother's best friend, Alex Stafford's, parents' wedding anniversary party, days celebrating with a family she has been actively avoiding for eight years after Alex humiliated her.

My hackles raised when Alex met Michelle at the airport and calmly announced that not only was he driving her to his parents' house, despite her already having hired a car, but he had also cancelled her reservation at the local B&B and she was being forced to stay at the house. Although actually it wasn't the house, it was the cottage nearby, the scene of the aforementioned humiliation. Alex is determined to 'have it out' with Michelle and talk about what happened eight years ago, and frankly he doesn't care a single iota what Michelle wants.

Alex also has a huge chip on his shoulder because he is dyslexic, he's a millionaire NFL player but he suffers from crippling anxiety that he can barely read and write - in fact he orders the same thing in practically every restaurant rather than try to read the menu. Now I have great sympathy for people with dyslexia but Alex's attitude seemed a little bizarre. On one hand he is pushy and, despite being the person in the wrong, forcing Michelle to do what he wants, yet on the other hand he feels intellectually inferior to her and believes she would look down on him if she ever found out the truth.

Add in Alex's pushy mother who keeps trying to match-make the two of them, his crone of a grandmother who subjects Michelle to an interrogation, and his father who deliveries irritating homilies - the subtext of which appears to be 'you might be clever, but what you really need is a husband and some children to keep you busy' - and I bailed.

I think this might have worked better for me if Alex hadn't been such a bully, if his mother had done all the manoeuvring and Alex and Michelle were her hapless pawns?

I received a free copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review and I remain grateful even though I didn't enjoy the book.

Looking for a cute, sweet, second chance romance? This is probably just what you need. Eight years ago Michelle Dennis had a huge crush on the best friend of her older brother, Alex Stafford. Eight years ago he came to her rescue then said some hateful things. Two weeks later she went off to college and they've never seen each other since. What makes that even worse is that his parents were like parents to Michelle and her brother, Kyle, often providing a safe haven away from their own, less tranquil and caring, home. Neither Kyle nor Michelle have ever told any of their families about what occurred and, although they kept in phone and letter contact, she never returned - until now. Now she's coming back for the family celebrations of his Dad's birthday and his parents' wedding anniversary and that's going to prove to be a testing time for both Michelle and Alex!

I loved Jim's mother, Vivian and the Stafford family generally. The meddlesome matchmaking mum comes into her own in this story during which Michelle seems to run through the whole gamut of emotions regarding her relationship with Alex whilst he has to come to terms with admitting he isn't perfect and be honest with his supposed best friend and Michelle. A great beach read with a brainiac female lead and a handsome sports star male lead who is full of intellectual insecurities both needing to be honest to have any chance at achieving their happy ever after together.

Many thanks to the publishers for gifting me an ARC of this novel through NetGalley in exchange for this, my honest review.

Michelle and Alex haven't seen each other in eight years, ever since Alex made a big mistake that he couldn't take back, hurting Michelle in the process. Back together for his parent's anniversary, a couple who had a large hand in raising Michelle and her brother Kyle, it's the perfect time for Alex to own up to his failings and try to fix things with Michelle. They were friends once - can they recapture that friendship, and maybe now that they are both older and wiser, own up to the depth of their feelings for each other?

This is an easy and fairly lighthearted read with some pluses and minuses for me. Alex and Michelle definitely have chemistry together and the sexual attraction between them leads to some sexy scenes. Their families play a key role in the story and I liked all of the secondary characters, especially Alex's parents and his brother Chase (who, as all brothers are wont to do, makes Alex question his motives and actions). Alex is a football star but he's on holidays here, so the sports theme is minimal. This story relies on a 'secret' to explain why Alex never thought he was good enough for Michelle (a well liked and smart biochemist) and that's not my favourite plot idea, especially when it takes until the end of the story to get the big reveal. Also, I'm a little tired of stories with the 'sleep with my sister and you'll regret it' theme, which is part and parcel of Kyle's attitude towards Alex. Despite these minuses, the themes of forgiveness, honesty and moving forward, combined with a sexy romance made this an overall enjoyable read.

Super cute and super sweet story about second chance love/brother's best friend rolled all into one.
Michelle returns home after 8 years of being away become a PHD/professor. She is a smart cookie. Michelle always has a thing for Alex, her bother's best friend and NFL star.

This was a lighthearted tale of a nerdy girl who falls for the jock only to have her heart crushed by him 8 years earlier. Since then, she hasn't come back home to visit (I don't know why she would have because she is not close to her family and her brother visits her).

Now Michelle goes from cold to hot with Alex. She threw her plan to get him at bay out the window, instead deciding the best thing to do would be to have a fling with him.... made me wonder why the sudden change of heart???

Like I said, this is a super sweet book. Not too much drama or angst. HEA for everyone!! Even Jake's meddling mom!!

The prodigal daughter returns home after an 8-year rift with a man whom she'd loved and now that she's turned into a bombshell (as well as as intellectual), the man who's pushed her away sits up and notice. Needing to score away the hurt, Michelle Dennis decides that using Alex Stafford for his body after his rejection is the best ploy. What follows is a predictable trajectory of realising that sex can't come with no strings especially with a man with whom she shares history, even if he's always thought himself beneath her.

My excitement in discovering another brother's best-friend's story was dimmed by the nonsensical and well, dumb behaviour of the characters, whom I simply couldn't bring myself to like at all. In most cases, sex seldom is the problem; the behaviour before and after as well as the motivations are. Michelle's soreness over Alex's rejection lasted only a day it seemed and seeing her behaviour flip from hostile to seductive was cringe-worthy, just as watching Alex suddenly decide that he was in love with her after getting horizontal. The latter, who spent the entire book making a huge issue of his dyslexia that supposedly kept him from keeping intimate relationships, cemented his own stupidity not because of his learning disorder but because of the cowardice that he'd shown with Michelle for years.

That they fell into bed so easily - as though the years of fraught tension just disappeared - made me incredulous, because I'd assumed this was a huge road block that would take more than just an affair to smooth over. With this source of narrative tension suddenly removed, I felt short-changed and somewhat repulsed by Michelle's tanking pride (when it seemed she had to be the brave one the whole time) and Alex's inadvertent reiteration of the stereotypical dumb jock behaviour.

The story did rub me the wrong way, unfortunately; I couldn't wait to finish this by the time Michelle and Alex rushed through their HEA with a wedding that I couldn't believe when their supposed love didn't feel real at all.

3 friends to lovers stars. He's her brother's best friend who ripped her apart, forcing her to flee eight years ago. She's the one he always wanted and never could have, angrily and jealously forcing her to flee. Eight years is a long time for something like this to simmer, isn't it? Well, they say time can heal all but sometimes it doesn't. That's where this book starts and how it weaves its story.

I wasn't in love with the story because I just felt a slight disconnect. It is probably just the author's style not working for me which makes it a me problem more than anything. I did like the major flaw Alex had and how the author forced people to see how words can hurt someone as they did him his entire life. I felt Michelle was constantly flipping between me liking her and me wanting to strangle her. She was such a good character and then such an idiot so I was moving between two extremes.

Overall, the read wasn't horrific, just didn't make me feel as much as I would have liked. I like stories that rip me up inside and cause me to come up from the undercurrent gasping. I like to almost cry and run around screaming. This book was just okay, but that's how I viewed it. Others might love it since it is more easygoing.

I liked this book. It was just what I needed right now, a cute fluffy story to lose track of time in. I needed a book that was an easy breezy read and Just One Week fit the bill. I read this story in one night because I couldn't put it down. The story is not some new concept that is going to blow down the book world, but it is cute and the chemistry between the main characters was explosive. If you are like me and looking for a something that is sweet with a guaranteed happy ending then I suggest reading this book.

Brothers best friend! Michelle has always had a thing for Alex! Well, 8 years ago. He broke her heart. She finally comes back after all that time to her like mom and dads anniversary. Her new plan is to make a play at Alex. Just sex she says. But something happens along the way. Everyone is playing matchmaker, well, except her brother. He doesn't knows. Or denial. Lol.
Love it!! Hot sex and sweet romance.

This is the first ever Alice Gaines book that I've read, and unfortunately I didn't love it as much as I thought I was going to. Most of the time, I love a good friends to lovers story, but this one didn't work for me.

Early on the the story we learn that Michelle had feelings for Alex when they were teenagers, but he rejected her and said hurtful things to her. She left a week after the incident and hadn't been home in 8 years because she was still hurt by that night, but has to return for his parent's anniversary party. She starts by telling herself that she is not going to let herself want Alex but changes her mind almost right away. She decides instead that she would like to have a friends with benefits situation with him for the week instead.

After the week comes to it's end they both have feelings for each other but Alex pushes her away, again. All because he has dyslexia. What? Alex builds up his disability in his head so much that its really crazy. The pro football star that can have whoever he wants is scared to date Michelle because he feels as if she is smarter than him...newsflash, she probably is, but NOT because you have dyslexia. The woman is a neuroscientist that is working on a drug to help Parkinson's! She's smarter than anyone I know personally, but doesn't mean she would be better than someone because of it. Sometimes people are smarter than others, it happens, get over it. If you can't tell, it really annoyed me. Everyone is "smarter" at their own thing.

I also was a little annoyed at the proposal to fix things at the end. That is not a solution to a problem! Another one of their problems that was left unresolved was that he is a pro football player who lives quite a bit away from her and obviously will be traveling and have a busy schedule, she is also going to be extremely busy with her new job and teaching...sooo what did they figure out?? They got married but we have no idea where or when they are going to see each other. Ehh... sorry guys, this one just wasn't for me.

This was such a sweet read. While at times I found both the hero and heroine to be absurd and stuck in their head, I truly loved the way everything went.

Michelle, or Mickey as everyone back home knows her, is headed home for the first time in 8 years. She's excited and nervous all at the same time. Excited to see her family and nervous to see the man who was the cause of her running away for so long. Embarrassment will do that to you.
Alex is the said guy. He's seen his errors and wants nothing more than to set everything straight. In the heat of the moment, some words may have just come out. He didn't mean then, but what's done is done. All he can do now is hope that Mickey will let him apologize and get past it all.

I loved seeing the pull between these two. While they tried to fight it for different reasons, they're just so right together. They did tend to get stuck in their heads, thinking they weren't right for each other for different reasons or that things wouldn't work out because of different circumstances. These ideas almost made them miss out on something great. Once they quit thinking so much and started listening to everyone around them, they realize that something with this much possibility is worth taking a chance on. I loved everyone in this book. I can't wait to see what Alice Gaines has planned next.

This was a light, fun read that was low on angst heavy on the sweet.

The attraction between Alex and Michelle was clear and present from the very beginning but their history was a bit of a mystery that slowly unraveled throughout the book. I like that we got bits and pieces of the last night they saw each other 8 years prior, but I wonder if it would have stirred my emotions more if I had read it as one complete flashback.

I love the storyline and the interaction between all of the characters, especially between Alex and his brother Chase, but I almost wanted a little more drama. I wanted Alex and Michelle to really dig into their feelings from before and how they hurt each other.

Overall I enjoyed this book and wouldn't hesitate to read another from this author about the secondary characters or even a whole new cast of characters.

Super fun, cute read. Low on angst and high on fun makes this an excellent light read. It's a second chance story and brother's best friend story rolled into one. I really loved the family dynamics and could easily see how the younger Michelle would have had a huge crush on Alex. Even though at times I just wanted to yell at Michelle to get over it already, I did enjoy her character. Then there is Alex who is just all kinds of yummy! There is obvious chemistry between Michelle and Alex. While the story was fairly predictable it was also very entertaining.. This one definitely left me smiling and it's a book I would highly recommend.

I'm a sucker for a BFF/younger sister romance but I didn't love this one. What I didn't like:

1. It took forever for me as a reader to know what happened to the two MCs years ago. Frustrating.
2. Once I did find out what happened the h's reaction and grudge seemed a slight overreaction IMHO. One minute she hates him and won't talk to him at all; next she's planning to seduce him. I was like "WTH just happened?! Did I miss a chapter?"

Just One Week by Alice Gaines is definitely one sexy romance. A contemporary tale that brings together two absolute opposites. But the story isn't just about two opposites who may or may not find their happily ever after. It's much more than just that. It shows that despite what we were or weren't born doesn't mean we cannot achieve our dreams. Whether the dreams are to become a brilliant scientist like the leading female character in this story or like a pro athlete like the leading male character, dreams can come true. Learning disabilities doesn't mean that people can't succeed in life. Especially in school. Readers will find that to be true. Alice Gaines not only took the famous opposites attract thing but put it into a whole new light that made this a heart melting read.

So, now, onto the sexy bits. Just One Week takes two former best friends and puts them into difficult paths. A moment in the past became so unbearable that the Michelle Dennis decided to leave without saying a proper goodbye. Her former childhood crush and aka best friend did something completely jerk-like. He acted like a total green monster. Despite that fact, in a way he kind of did save her from making a mistake. However, the way he handled the situation was not great. Eight years later that still haunts them both. This time, Alex will be at the end of a disaster. Or will he? Revenge at first seems great, but what will really happen when two lovers see each other in adult form? Their chemistry is hot, addictive, and sassy. Alice Gaines knows how to keep her readers entertaining from beginning to end. There are so many what if's directions that readers will be on the edge of their seats. Holding their breath until the last page. Overall, I highly recommend this steaming contemporary romance to all.

Three and half stars.

Brother's best friend, long-time unrequited crush...

Michelle Dennis had a crush on Alex Stafford for eons, but their encounter eight years ago was a doozy, with Alex hurling some especially cruel accusations her way, so Michelle's gone out of her way to avoid contact. Lured back to town for Mr and Mrs Stafford's anniversary party, she and Alex are forced to interact and find that their heated attraction is very much mutual.

Alice Gaines's story is an enjoyable read, with Michelle and Alex each hiding parts of themselves from the other. The pacing of their reveals is a little slow for my liking, but is ultimately satisfying.

I do generally enjoy Ms Gaines's writing, and will definitely continue to seek it out.

Very enjoyable romance. Fairly quick read. Not too deep, not too intense. Just enough substance to make it all work well. Characters are developed sufficiently to get a good feel for each individual in the story. Issues are true to life, and while fairly simple they are ones that can produce profound impact on us. Tender hearts, deep hurts, deep loves. I would love to read more stories about this family.

This book was average in may ways with two concurrent typical plots -- the Scholar and the Athlete and In love with your best friend's sister. Michelle returns to her hometown year. The first person she encounters is Alex. Alex is her brother's best friend, and the reason she left town. Michelle run out of town, never looking back many years ago after an incident with Alex; I have to admit, I did not guess correctly regarding situation. Michelle is welcomed home with open arms by Alex's parents, and they treat her like their own daughter. She came back with hopes to to grab the attention of Alex, and for him to finally see her as a sexy woman, and not just the little sister.
One thing leads to another, and soon Alex finds himself slipping into Michelle's bedroom every night. The one thing that set this book apart, is how the author introduced a themed not usually found in a romance book. The author took on and dealt pretty straight forward with a learning disability and how it can impact a person years later, no matter how successful they may be. It was the under-lining reason why Alex could not see himself in a long term relationship with Michelle. The feelings Alex expressed were poignant. Over-all an enjoyable read. Rating 3.75

Too predictable and lacked feels. Characters don't really have substance and I didn't really feel for any of them. The flow of the book felt really choppy, and the conversations between characters felt really forced.

There was no real drama and even the climax was very 'eh'. Almost didn't finish the book, just sped through it and called it done. :(

I genuinely enjoyed this story! But overall our main guy just got on my nerves. They made things way over complicated with the underlying storyline that could have solved a lot of things if they just talked to one another. But I still found the book good for a nice little afternoon read.
