A year ago, I searched the web to find unbiased reports on what truly helps students increase their vocabulary. I picked this book up at a consignment shop and I'm impressed. First off Vocabulary Instruction breaks down the how and why of vocabulary acquisition. It then shifts to learning strategies and concludes with methods to increase vocabulary consciousness.

Very narrow, yet interesting, research on vocabulary instruction. A good collection of research allowing you to pick and choose your readings. I would look into the new edition.
