There, on top of the mushroom, was a large caterpillar, smoking a pipe. After a while the Caterpillar took the pipe out of its mouth and said to Alice in a slow, sleepy voice, 'Who are you?' What strange things happen when Alice falls down the rabbit-hole and into Wonderland! She has conversations with the Caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat, goes to the Mad Hatter's tea party, plays croquet with the King and Queen of Hearts...

well. I ve often seen a cat without a grin, though Alice, but never a grin without a cat!
This is the first book I picked from the Rory Gilmore reading list. I remember performing Alice the Musical a few years back and this book gave me so much nostalgia. It was a super fast and whimsical read. At the back of the book, there are activities. Some, you’re supposed to read at the beginning. Others, you’re meant to read either during or at the end of the book. It made the book more interactive and I really enjoyed it. I definitely want to read this one out loud to my little sisters.
I have always been told that Alice's adventures in Wonderland was a strange book and once I had actually read it, I was amazed at the nonsensical book. The reason I gave it one star is because I didn't enjoy it and although it was a favourite with others, it was not a favourite with me.
I was reading this with my students for the School's Book club. I really loved it. Good as the Original tale of Alice's adventures to the wonderful wonderland. It kept the story rich and the the mad hatter as made as the original text. A must read for children...
cute, short version of alice in wonderland. perfect length for a bedtime story :)
alice in wonderland always has and always will be one of my favorite childhood stories, and i will never get tired of reading adaptations and retellings.
"'I can't explain myself, I'm afraid, sir,' said Alice, 'because I'm not myself, you see.' 'I don't see,' said the Caterpillar. [...] 'Oh, I'm not particular as to size,' Alice hastily replied; 'only one doesn't like changing so often, you know.' 'I don't know,' said the Caterpillar."
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you cant help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."
I can barely remember the movie, and I've never read the book so an easy wee read, and I'll scratch it off my bucket list! Didn't realise it was so short!
I liked it! I've seen lots of reviews saying Alice is very unlikable, but I disagree... I think I'd act somewhat similarly if I was thrown into such odd situations.
possibly better than the first time I read it, this fantastical tale is a fun and thought provoking romp thru light fantasy. filled with puns and clever wordplay, it is a word geek's playground.
Even though I've read "Alice" a number of times, it was good to return once again to Lewis Carroll's tale of fantasy, labeled an example of the literary nonsense genre. Carroll enjoyed playing with words, which is very evident in "Alice". Rereading this, makes me recall specific parts in the Disney classic movie production. I could hear and replay certain sounds and dialogue as I read. I'm glad my classics book club chose this book as its April selection!
I know the title because I've heard it a lot, but I didn't know the content at all. I checked the contents while reading this time. I think it was fun. I think it would be good to see the original text later. The difficulty level was good. Oxford bookworms level 2 is also worth reading. I wrote down words I didn't know, and the level of sentences was not difficult.
I have mixed feeling about this story, finally reading it as an adult. I am generally a fan of children's literature with nonsense magical lands. For example, I am a huge fan of Peter Pan. However, when it comes down to it, this is a an adventure that really is just a series of events with no arc or thread. Alice vaguely wants to 'get to a garden' that she sees, but that is really the only character motivation we see, and she makes it there well before the end of the book. Also, Lewis Carroll almost rivals J.R.R. Tolkien with random poetry and verse thrown into his narrative. (Almost.) While I liked reading the original, being only ever familiar with adaptations, and there is an intriguing bizarre-ness to Wonderland that is like being in a dream where things makes sense but not really, I was left the story without feeling anything learned or gained or triumphed. I started Through the Looking Glass, the other Alice in Wonderland novel, but this felt even more detached from motivation than Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and I had to give it up. Peter Pan and Wizard of OZ are both better variations of this story trope.
Megjelentek, aztán léptünk is tovább… A vége az meg annyi, hogy Alice felébredt, elmesélte, happy end… NEMÁ'!
Mindenképpen sort fogok keríteni a teljes verzió elolvasására is. Ennyi nem elég, akarom a táncot, dalt, mesét :)
A Glossary-ban viszont aranyosnak találtam a következő meghatározásokat:

I like this book because I have known since I was child and it's easy to understand. One day Alice followed a White Rabbit and she fell into a hall. Actually she was in the Wonderland. She met many strange animals and asked them, she played croquet with the Queen and the King. The Queen is always mad and she often said "Off with his head!" But finally people didn't follow the Queen thanks to Alice. Actually I was not sure about the outcome. I like the part of "the poor of tears". Alice was very big before she ate a cake which was to be small and she cried a lot. So it was a poor when she became small. That was interesting. 5. I enjoyed this book! But it was a little difficult about the last part.

4.a)"Perhaps I'm near the centre of the earth. Let me think... That's four thousand miles down."
b)I like this passage because Alice is calm. If I fall in the hole, I would not be able to think about that.
5. The story is easy to read for me because I have been familiar to it since I was little and this is a famous story. I think the story is very mysterious because there are many funny things such as talking animals and strange food which changes the size of its body. The wonderland seems interesting but I don't want to go there.
