There are two sides to every story, and while I feel for the Deboer's in their plight with Baby Jessica (whose name is actually Anna), I do think that a lot of the problem stemmed from the Deboer's themselves.
They drug out the court case and caused the dramatic media frenzy in an effort to win support for their cause, when it actually could have been resolved fairly quickly from the beginning. I can't imagine the loss of a child whether it be through death or adoption, but the Deboers were notified very early on that there was a strong chance they would not be able to keep custody of the little girl.
In the end, I believe the courts did the right thing. While Jessica/Anna’s biological mother had, her biological father never released his parental rights and deserved the opportunity to raise his own child.
I really truly enjoyed reading this book even though my heart breaks for the little girl. However, I can see the mistakes made on both sides of the issue. The little girl did not deserve that and it was a very sad read even though I couldn’t put it down.
