I’ve never studied the lifestyles of birds before, but I’m learning I have a lot in common with them. In fact, I’m finding out that the more I follow the example of the sparrow, the closer I am to the One Who created them. I’m also realizing that I don’t naturally want to live like a sparrow; this is why I’ve needed some loving guidance and nudging to point me in this direction. Maybe you’ve found yourself in a season of anxiety— where the financial math doesn’t add up, or the health crises just keep coming. Maybe the safe nest or relationship you’ve been in before is no longer safe. What can we do when our previously successful efforts just aren’t working anymore? What should we do when it seems difficult to provide for ourselves and our families, never mind prepare for a possible future recession? If I may be so bold, allow me to direct your eyes to the same bird Jesus used for His object lessons. The sparrow is so common that scientists estimate they can be found on every continent except Antarctica. We’ve all seen these nondescript birds. So what’s the connection to us? How are humans like birds—and why should we strive to be more like them? I hope this study will help you understand the connections in a way that grows your faith and strengthens the bonds of trust between you and your Creator.
