God has a more effective prayer life for you than you ever dreamed possible. Let this volume be your open door to wonderful answers to prayer. Here is your personal guide to a life of mighty prevailing prayer. Let this book speak to your heart, take you to your knees, and help you obtain prayer answers in difficult and resistant situations. Evangelist Leonard Ravenhill calls it an encyclopedia you will want to read and refer to again and again. The evangelical church is guilty of the sin of prayerlessness. Wesley Duewel has provided exactly what we a biblically sound exposition of prevailing prayer and practical suggestions for ways to prevail in prayer.
This is an absolute must-have handbook for intercessors/prayer warriors. Every time I read it, I underline more things. It's always fresh, always inspiring, always encouraging.
Mighty Prevailing Prayer was required reading for the intercessor group I belonged to at my church, many years ago. I was young, and admittedly had a bad attitude about reading it. "Why," I thought, "must I read about prayer? Why don't we just do it, and stop talking about it?"
I was wrong. God used Wesley Duewel to change my life. I was shocked to find out that Mr. Duewel knew all the innermost secrets of my prayer life -- the deep emotional involvement, the physical exhaustion, the obsession and preoccupation with getting my answers, which was so great at times that eating and sleeping became temporarily inconsequential. I had thought I was off the deep end. (So did my family.) Mr. Duewel assured me I was normal! I found out I was doing what I was supposed to do. I found freedom to move into the calling God had for me, without thinking I was a blooming nut!
There are days when I get really tired of being an intercessor. It is hard labor, and results aren’t always immediate or visible. Sometimes it would be easier to toss prayer out the window and let my brains go to jelly watching Gilligan's Island or F Troop. But when I get a little discouraged, I re-fire by reading Mighty Prevailing Prayer. It isn't the kind of book to read thirty pages of at a time. Every word counts, so a few pages at one sitting are enough to chew on.
I appreciate Mr. Duewel's balanced biblical approach, his detailed explanations of how prayer works and why, and his down-to-earth tips for a better prayer life. The stories of miracles that have taken place in his own and other people's lives through answered prayer aren't half bad either! (How would you like to pray for thirteen hours for an unsaved dead person, and have him rise up, totally healed, and give his heart to Jesus -- all because you had a promise from God for the man’s salvation that you wouldn't let go of?)
If you have an intercessor calling on your life, don't deprive yourself of Mighty Prevailing Prayer. It will give you keys to greater prayer effectiveness, and it will spur you on to deeper levels of knowing the Lord than you have yet attained to.
This inspiring and practical book defines the term "prevailing prayer," explains the need for it, and then gives loads of practical advice on how to implement it. I tend to quibble with the author when he says that God "needs" us to do something as if God needs anything from anyone. While God does not need us, he has ordained to work through us to accomplish his will. Prayer seems to be the vital means through which God acts. I recommend this resource for those who want to be inspired and equipped to enhance their prayer life.
This is the best book on prayer I’ve ever read. I bought it over 20 years ago after hearing the author speak at a conference and I only recently got around to reading it. My only regret is that I didn’t start reading it earlier and applying its principles. This is a powerful, meaty book. It’s not light reading. It took me over two years to finish, but I’m glad I didn’t rush through it. I’m planning to go back and review all the portions I underlined, which were many. Highly recommend this book.
As Armin R. Gesswein, the writer of the forward says, "This is no kindergarten book on prayer but a summons to the battlefield." Do I hunger deeply enough to pray at a costly spiritual price, if need be, to see God's answer?
Encouraging book on prayer. I found it a bit repetitive and lacking in scripture in certain concepts, but this book was still a helpful motivator in my prayer life.
I read this book in conjunction with Andrew Murray's book, entitled With Christ in the School of Prayer. Powerful lessons for Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, who seek to advance His will and kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. It was a thrilling, awe-inspiring, humbling, and revealing look at how much the Lord longs and seeks to partner with us in true prayer. The battle ever wages, and He looks for us to take our places on the field. May we be faithful to show up!
When I started this book, I thought the first few chapters were repetitive and wondered where the author was leading the reader. But the more I read, I discovered that Wesley Duewel took me deeper into the essence of effective prayer. He covers such topics as praying in agreement, the Holy Spirit's role in prayer, fasting, spiritual warfare, praise, wrestling in prayer and so much more. My journal became filled with quotes and thoughts about the dynamics of prayer.
This book is life changing. First, prevailing means to keep on until the job is done. Twenty-five years ago, I read this book…Wesley Duewel taught me to pray. Sometimes prevailing means asking and believing your prayer will be answered regardless of the way it looks from the earthly perspective. I have seen God’s hand move in response to prayer. It took 18 years for my prayer to be brought to fruition. Don’t give up.
Absolutely incredible! A book I would recommend EVERY believer to read. Whether your a new Christian or have been born again for decades! There is something for everyone to lean here! Awesome book if you're wanting to up your game on your prayer life and ultimately improve your relationship with the Father God, Jesus Christ & the Holy Spirit.
Having read dozens of books on prayer, this is one of the very best. It doesn't cover the subject of prayer in general or all aspects of prayer but it focuses on prevailing prayer - prayer that doesn't give up until the answer comes. Understanding and employing this form of prayer is essential for the church today.
I've read a lot of books on prayer. But what makes this one different is that Duewel provides practical steps to becoming a serious prayer warrior. He answers so many questions about prayer; I don't think he leaves any stone unturned. If you actually do even half of what he suggests, your life will be changed.
This book talks extensively on prayer; how to prevail in prayer. Prevailing over yourself, over situation, over people, over satan and before God. If you easily give up before your prayer is answered, this book is for you.
Might better be titled "Militant Prevailing Prayer." A bit on the legalistic side, the author makes some claims without clear biblical support, though he does give a lot of references. Example: he presses for confession and repentance when a specific method is not commanded.
Even with this being the second time through, it is SO good. I would categorize this as an oldie but goodie! It’s a fresh and thorough perspective on prayer. Very empowering and inspiring to individuals in all seasons, whether newer to prayer or well practiced, all can be impacted by this book.
