Run, run as fast as you can, You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man.
The Gingerbread Man is chased all the way to the river by the Little Old Woman, the Little Old Man, Humpty Dumpty, the Grand Old Duke of York, Little Miss Muffet, and many other familiar characters. And indeed, none can catch him. But the Gingerbread Man cannot swim . . . . Can he run away from the wily old fox who offers to help him across the river? This is a delightful retelling of a beloved children’s classic fable. Carol Jones’ illustrations are beautifully detailed and will give hours of pleasure to children and adults.
This version is fun because it provides a seek-and-find game element looking for nursery rhyme references in the illustrations which are also included in the repetitive text. To give you an idea of the fun, here is the last refrain -- "I have run away from a little old woman and a little old man and Humpty Dumpty and Little Boy Blue and the Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe and the Grand Old Duke of York!" There is also a die-cut hole revealing the next adversary. Very fun!
I liked this book very much. However, I couldn't really see this book as being the center of a lesson plan for early elementary students. It was very neat how the book involved other classic fairytale characters but I think it could have been written in a more creative way. The illustrations did appeal to me and I think that students would love them as much as I did.
Another re-telling of the old tale of the gingerbread man. In this version a variety of other nursery rhyme characters from Humpty Dumpty to the Little Old Lady Who Lived In A Shoe are pursuing the tasty cookie. The fox still gets him in the end! Nice touch is the pages have a hole in them so you can see the illustrations on the next page.
The pictures in this book were very detailed and pleasing to the eye! Students would love them. I also loved how the book incorporated many different fables, such as Humpty Dumpty, Little Boy Blue, and the Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe. It was cool how there were circles cut out of every other page to show part of the previous page and next page. Overall, it was a very good book.
A classic retelling of the Gingerbread Man "Run, run as fast as you can, You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man?" There are cute cut out on each page!
I don't love the pictures but it is still a good one!
This book was a clever remake of the classic book. It added different characters from other traditional children's books. I liked the rhythm of the book and the pictures that kept you guessing at who they were going to see next. There's even a recipe for gingerbread men in the back!
This book would be good for early elementary students because it has many of the nursery rhyme characters in it that all want to eat the gingerbread man. Good for either Christmas or fairy tales.
This book is a classic. It has multiple different common characters from other folktales like Humpty Dumpty. This is a book everyone reads growing n up. I believe it should be a part of every ones childhood and that adults should read this book to all their kids.
