This is another one of my childhood books that I read when I was young and the chorus of the book "run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man" was still very fresh on my mind before I read the book again. It is a classic nursery tale highly recommended for all the children. I read this book to my 4 year old niece who enjoyed it very much. The illustrations of the book compliment the text very well. The book is about a gingerbread man who is running away from everyone that wants to eat him. This book contains repetition which the children are able to join in with and follow what is happening in the story.

The Gingerbread Man' is a classic story about an old lady who bakes gingerbread biscuits, and shapes his head, body, arms and legs. When the old lady opens the oven door the Gingerbread Man jumps out and runs out the door. The Gingerbread Man continues running past many animals who all want to eat him. As the Gingerbread Man passes each of the animals he sings, “Run, run as fast as you can! You can't catch me – I'm the Gingerbread Man!” When the Gingerbread man looks back he can see all the animals and the old lady running after him. The Gingerbread Man reaches a river and meets the sly fox who pretends to be his friend. The fox tricks the Gingerbread Man and eats him.

This book is best suited for children aged between two and seven. The Gingerbread Man is the perfect book for parents to read to their children, or for those more confident children to read by themselves. I would highly recommend it as it is a fantastic book with beautiful pictures. Parents can really engage their children in this book, especially when singing along with the Gingerbread Man. There is lots of repetition which will help encourage children to join in and build their confidence. Children can also have a go at making the sounds made by the various animals in the story.
