So you want to homeschool but don’t think you can afford it.
This book is a compendium of ideas for the family that wants to start or continue homeschooling on a tight budget. You’ll find it all
• Ideas for making money while staying at home. • Sources for an inexpensive curriculum. • Thousands of ideas for affordable teaching tools. • Hundreds of suggestions for low-cost field trips. • Ways to save on everything from housing to utilities. • Ways to get free or low-cost computers.
I kept having to put the book down so I could research another thing online. The book gave me a lot of great ideas and made it feel do-able to homeschool on my budget. I did skip through the last 3 chapters though, since my kids are nowhere near high school. The appendix is worth reading though!
Also, the book was written in the 90s, so most tech info is outdated.
Book written in 1999 or so, so the internet stuff (and some other parts) are quaintly outdated but it was still pretty encouraging/inspiring. You don't need all the fancy curriculum or new books or expensive organizational tools to homeschool, and if you reprioritize and simplify your life you can make homeschooling a reality. A lot of discussion of entrepreneurship or unconventional career paths or schedules.
lots of good info for the new homeschooler. I didn't like that they piled a LOT of info that wasn't really about saving money. Like simplifying your house and life chapter. It talked more than resources but optional activities. So even tho it was more than I bargained for, it was good since I'm just starting out.
This had some good ideas, but a lot of them were pretty obvious to me. Plus, there is a whole chapter on how to use the internet. It's a little outdated. Most of te resources are mailing addresses instead of internet addresses.
This is just an okay book. While a lot of what they have to say is good, most of it is pretty obvious. Also, it is really outdated. They could use to do a re-write on this.
