First off, I have to say that I was stunned that Wayne’s short ‘test’ to determine your personality type was scarily accurate for me.  However, that is a good thing to know as the book then addresses the areas of health, money and relationships to discuss common pitfalls for each type and then go onto offer up plans for each to improve your life.

Another thing that Mr. Nance emphasizes is that to gain a new, good habit you need to work at it for 91 days.  I completely agree that it is far easier to get into a bad habit than to break it and start a good one.  I’m in my 6th week of my new exercise program and still have days when I have to make a very conscious effort to do my workout no matter my attitude that day.  The same with the healthy eating.  I was very good for 3 weeks and then those little nibbles of dessert here and there had me wanting more.  I’ve not regressed to the super high sugar levels that I was at before starting, but I’m not as close to sugar free as I was.  And, having read this book and seen his recommendation to make smaller alterations in behavior each cycle, I am starting to wonder if the push to be very good with my eating was more than I could handle at one time.

Each of us is born with an attitude that heavily determines what we focus on in life. Our attitude is inborn and remains substantially unchanged throughout life. Mr. Nance developed a tool to identify a person's core attitude. It is called "The 3 Minute Survey" and it can be taken by filling out a form in the book or online.

This survey reveals what your core attitude is...the way you make health and wellness decisions, money and spending decisions, relationship decisions and many other decisions affecting your lifestyle.

The 3-Minute Survey helps you pinpoint the attitude you have while the book gives you a specific game plan on how you can start achieving the things you want most. This book shows you where to start and then gives you a plan on how to get there.

Mr. Nance suggests the following five steps for ALTERing your attitude;

Awareness. Become aware of your attitude (the inborn hard wiring that drives your beliefs and behavior).
Learn. Learn as much as you can about your attitude and how it impacts your beliefs and life choices.
Tactical Plan. Develop a plan that will address the issues that you need to work on in your life.
Execute The Plan. Start working on a daily plan of action for 91 days to improve your life.
Re-Evaluate. Review your progress and adjust your goals.

This book is divided into the following three main sections;

Health and Fitness
Financial Fitness
Relationship Fitness

The author believes that you can apply the principles in this book to any area of your life that is out of control.

Mr. Nance was inspired to develop this program because his own life was out of control. He weighed 315 pounds, he had more than $40,000 in credit card debt and his marriage was in trouble. He realized that obesity, debt and relationship meltdown were surface problems resulting from his core attitudes and beliefs.

I think this book is well researched and much of the information was learned from personal experience and working with others. I took the 3-Minute Survey and learned that my primary attitude is "rational" and my secondary attitude is "tactical". That means that I focus on issues and ideas. I don't mind challenging other people's opinions and I will defend my position quite strongly. "Tactical" means that I am a planner and pay attention to deadlines and details. That is pretty accurate. The funny thing is that my husband had almost the same results...with "tactical" being his primary attitude and "rational" being his secondary attitude.

Mr. Nance has gone to great lengths to provide "plans" for each of the attitude types. Sometimes I got bogged down and it seemed to be "too much information" to digest at one time. I suggest that you determine your attitude type and then pick and choose the information that applies to your situation.

FYI ~ I received a complimentary paperback copy of this book from B & B Media to read and review.

I really enjoyed this as it must be one of the best 'self-help' audios I've every come across. What I particularly liked about it is that it is very do-able. The survey is like a personality test that helps you to see what your attitude to life is, and this helps you to work out how to approach the main lifestyle issues in you life. The author obviously knows what he is writing about as it all makes so much sense, as it is very easy to understand and to put into action. He is very encouraging and really wants you the listener to get to your goals. He does this by making you understand that quick fixes don't work, but long-term lifestyle changes that work with your attitude do.
I also really liked the narrator on this audio as he has the right voice and sincerity for it. He doesn't sound like he is just trying to sell you something, but that he really cares about you and the changes you want to make to your life. If you are looking for an audio to inspire and encourage you to make a major lifestyle change, I definitely recommend this one, you won't be disappointed. Thanks to christianaudio.com Reviewer's Program for this copy.

Can three minutes really make a big difference in your life?

According to author, Wayne Nance, three minutes matters in three key areas—your health, finances, and relationships. By taking a three minute survey, readers can better understand why they behave the way they do and how it impacts those three areas of their lives. The survey consists of 4 rows of adjectives from which readers quickly select those that best describe you. And in three short minutes, you will receive your personal results which is a combination of four letters, T, R, I, and M. My pattern was TRMI, which classified me as a barge. And to my surprise much of the description of barges fit me well but it also provided some helpful information about how I might come across to others.

Through this books Nance hopes to help individuals dealing with weight, debt, and relationship issues ALTER their life patterns. He does not subscribe to one size fit all plan. But he provides a 10 step plan for each of the three key areas.

I'll start with a disclaimer. I didn't finish the book so I think I am only barely falling into the category of having read this book.

That was said to be fair. Now for my bitchy comments. This book has the dubious distinction of being the first book I returned to Audible.com. yes it WAS that bad. The author attempts to get you to believe that his relatively "easy" technique will fix anyone who has the willpower to want it. HAH! First off the title is deceptive. It involves quite a bit of "run buy something from me and only me" propaganda every few pages. The "simplistic" tests kept compounding into more work and work for this supposedly different approach. Here's what he really means. He'll change your life in three minutes...but you'll need quite a few sets of three minutes or rather a LOT of time if you want any success. I highly recommend you step into a 12 step room. THAT is the very definition of simple but not easy. You'll save money rather than purchase this useless guide and meet friends while you're there.
