"Saving Concord is a gratifying, intense and gloriously compelling story that without a doubt will blow you away!" - The Fantasy Book Review Five thousand years in the future, mankind has spread halfway across the galaxy. Almost two sextillion humans, living on nearly a billion worlds, are still rebuilding from a Galactic Civil War the end of which gave rise to the Imperium. But for some people, the fighting continues…. Shepard Bellator, one of the twelve members of the Imperator’s recently disbanded Caelian Guard, has been charged with ending the ambitions of Skel Stottle, a crime boss and weapons dealer who is on the verge of starting another Civil War to bring down the Imperator. Tasked to work as a lone agent to give the Imperator some measure of deniability, Shepard must not only avoid using any resources among the Imperial Forces but he must also achieve his objective without incurring enough collateral damage to set off another conflict and end the already fragile concord....

It's a difficult concept, how do you picture life in the far future? Consider how much life in our time differs from that of five thousand years ago---so we tend instead to ascribe unchanging values in the moral spheres to our characters rather than focus upon unimaginable technologies of the future. This is the limitation faced by all Science Fiction writers, if they wish to avoid writing rather silly scenarios that will insult the intelligence of the serious SF fans. Full marks to Robert Bowden.

I'm not a sci-fi reader as a rule but this had me hooked from page one. It is set in a world 5k-years ahead and the descriptive writing paints the wonderful new technology with effortless prose. I was transported into a dimension, which unless well written, could have been confusing but the author does a brilliant job of helping you to visualise the surroundings. Action packed, tense, thrilling and a great ending......what more could you want from a book!!

Somehow I was left perplexed because the view of the future was interspersed with quite mundane aspect we all know today. It jolted me every time. Promising.
