Dr. Bright shares how being controlled by the Holy Spirit is the secret to freedom in Christ and vibrant Christian living. Let him show you how to receive for giveness, appropriate the Holy Spirt's power, and enter into the abundant Christian life.
William R. Bright was an American evangelist. In 1951 at the University of California, Los Angeles, he founded Campus Crusade for Christ as a ministry for university students. In 1952 he wrote The Four Spiritual Laws. In 1979 he produced the film Jesus. In 1996 Bill Bright was awarded the $1.1 million Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion, and donated the money to promote the spiritual benefits of fasting and prayer. In 2001 he stepped down as leader of the organization and Steve Douglass became president.
Very good book that can help Christians live a Spirit-filled life and to share our faith with others. Provides practical suggestions, diagrams, other resources at the end. The book was published in the 80s but speaks to the state of the nation (America/the West) even today where we’ve become morally and spiritually bankrupt. Highly recommended for Christians and those who are interested in Christianity.
"The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ, who has been sent from God to guide and empower us. The Holy Spirit is the risen Christ living within us. He is the key to our supernatural adventure with God as a way of life. (Bill Bright, The Holy Spirit: The Key to Supernatural Living, Page 16)
Well thought-out book on the Holy Spirit. You can tell this author is not a novice on the Holy Spirit, but a firm student on the study of the Bible and the person of the Holy Spirit.
You can tell he does not speak like a Pentecostal. He talks more like Baptist, but a Baptist who believes in the Holy Spirit, the power of God and the gifts of the Spirit. He does not reject any gifts and miracles in the Bible, but is thoughtful of these things in this book.
He emphasizes that Christians should not get hung up on spiritual gifts, but that we should be hung up on God using us in any different circumstances. I wasn't in total agreement with this as I thought to myself, what if people understood their gifts and also were willing to be used by God. Where is the power in being ignorant of your spiritual gifts?...I agree we can go overboard and become like the Corinthian church in the Bible who exhibited all the spiritual gifts, but were carnal and Paul the Apostle had to rebuke them. Therefore, I agree, that just because one operates in the gifts of the Spirit does not mean you are spiritually mature.
Well balanced book on the person of the Holy Spirit.
I'm always encouraged by Bill Bright and his devotion to the Lord, his teaching abilities, and his commitment to helping others meet and walk fruitfully with Jesus. This book is classic in those regards and offers a compelling and simple understanding of the Spirit's work and ministry in the life of the believer. Not all the content was theologically helpful, but it still served as a great resource!
