I hate writing reviews but since this was brought to my attention as a hilarious collection of humorous dating stories, I’m here to warn anyone who heard the same. The first bit read as a compilation of (boring) Glamour magazine articles without the humor. Then suddenly, without warning, it turned into a very basic self-help book, so I guess if you’re 16 and looking for that, go for it
“Dizzideb” does it again, with another fabulous guide to finding ‘Mr. Right’…or in this case, deciding whether he really is ‘The One’.
In this Debbie Martin offering ‘Are You The One’ (you may know her as author of ‘The Strategy: Single and Don’t Want To Be?’ – another worthwhile read), Dizzideb takes us through ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’ of internet dating.
Given the surge in internet dating sites and usage, it’s very ‘now’ to explore this platform and its associated pros and cons. Although it’s something I’ve yet to try and which, I must admit, is still a bit of a mystery to me, I found Martin’s personal insights interesting and informative, not to mention entertaining at times! Needless to say, I have many friends who’ve dabbled in internet dating, with surprising results (yes, it seems true love can be found with the help of the internet!) and, through this guide, I gathered enough of an understanding to, in the least, be able to share in mutual conversations on internet dating, if not try it out myself someday.
In any case, no matter which method of approach you’ve taken in meeting your man, ‘Are You The One’ can give you some useful tips or simple reassurance in confirming whether he’s the one for you – at least, this is what I took away for myself.
I also very much appreciated Martin’s personal writing style – she’s not afraid to reveal her innermost thoughts and feelings on some of the tougher experiences she’s had to surpass – and found myself particularly relating to her analysis of the breakdown of her marriage. Kudos to Martin for opening up and sharing such deeply personal insights with the world…sometimes just reading that someone’s been in your situation, had your same thoughts, and worked through them in a positive manner is enough to propel you up and out of your own challenging situation.
I won this book and although I am happily taken..it was a great basic book about dating and online dating up and downs. Humorous to read but humorous to also know that I too had some of the same type moments. She had quotes at every chapter that I just loved. A nice afternoon read.
I expected mostly dating stories but what I got was her opinion on dating stuff. She repeated herself a lot as well. However I did enjoy the dating stories I did read.
