I bought this cookbook because I was trying to find food from Bahrain, and this is one of the few books I've found that specifically mentions Bahraini food. As far as the dishes from other countries, more comprehensive cookbooks devoted to Middle Eastern cuisine include these same recipes, so I would recommend buying one of those instead. From other reviews I've read, the author has a larger cookbook that includes all of these recipes, so perhaps that one has more explanatory notes and background info than this one does.
As for this cookbook, it's very small and short. It includes photos of the food, but doesn't really include any explanatory notes about how/when people would eat these dishes. I made 4 of the recipes for a Bahrain-themed meal, and they all turned out very well, so my experience with the recipes has been very good. I don't think, though, that I'll be cooking many more dishes from this cookbook.
This book is essentially the 'Gulf States chapter' of the author's 'Complete Middle East Cookbook', which I'm a big fan of. I don't think there's a single recipe in here that isn't in the larger book, though more recipes are pictured in this smaller volume. The recipes here are very good, but I'd just recommend getting 'Complete Middle East Cookbook' instead, it includes all of these dishes, plus tons of recipes from several other countries, far more bang for your buck.
